They had the same production as Dobson in Juniors, that was my point.

I agree that Dobson has a lot of potential but he’s far from a lock to become a Pietrangelo (at least offensively). Like I said, there have been slight concerns about his offensive game translating.

Hughes on the other hand is actually better than Gostisbehere was in his draft year. I believe his potential is higher, he’s a better skater too. His shot doesn’t concern me, it can be improved upon and his ability to carry the puck into the O-zone is almost second to none (Dahlin’s better). He has insane vision too.

In the end, I believe Dobson’s floor is higher but Hughes’ ceiling is much higher. Since we have many RD prospects and almost nobody at LD apart from Mete, we should find someone to play with Weber, who still has 3-4 years of good hockey ahead of him IMO.

As mentioned, none of our RD prospects are likely to be first pairing kind of guys. Obviously anything can happen and maybe Juulsen could be the defensive conscience of someone like Hughes on the first pairing, but none are likely to be obvious legit first pairing guys on their own. As for Weber, the player we draft will be about 15 years younger than him, so I don't think finding a guy who could play with him should really play into things. Besides, in one of Dobson's combine interviews he said he played on the left side last year and is comfortable on both sides, so being a righty wouldn't necessarily rule him out even if they did want to draft someone to play with Weber.

Not the most rational reason, but I want to see Weber moved for the rebuild, to snap the direct link to the PK trade (do I want to hear about that trade repeatedly the next few years, no...)

Let Weber player for a winner for the last stretch of his career.

Is Boqvist dropping on people's lists because of the concussion and/or his comments?

I've grown very fond of Dobson as a high pick but I'm still comfortable with Boqvist ahead.
Partially, it definitely adds a bit of a red flag. Another part of it could be recency bias, as we've seen guy like Hughes and Dobson impress on big stages in the last month.

For the habs in regards to Dobson/Boqvist, I'd only take a RD right now if they were clear BPA. Dobson is close to being that at 3, but he'd have to be a clear cut above in order for me to take him there.

It’s weird to say Hughes has more potential than Dobson. If I’m up a goal with two minutes left or if I’m going to kill a penalty, Hughes isn’t going on the ice, Dobson is. And both are going on the ice down a goal with a minute left or on the PP. In a playoff series against the Leafs? It’s Dobson that will be out every time Matthews and Nylander are out, it would never be Hughes.

So what exactly gives Hughes more potential if you’re not even going to use him in all situations like Dobson? Because he might get 10-15 more points a season? There’s much more to defence than that, or else John Klingberg would be considered the best defender in the NHL.

Hughes isn't good in his own end but the thing about him is, he's a very Bowman era red wings player..he defends by having the puck

I don't get the hype with Hughes.

He's the one guy in that top 10 range that freaks me out, if my team was picking in that slot.
