I don't think so. I think he knows that if he pulls a stupid move, he likely won't get a next job.

It would be beneficial for him to start moving towards a proper rebuild. Him trading off assets this month, in order to save his job is career suicide. I don't think he'll do that. It's pretty obvious to other organizations that the Habs don't have a shot at contending with this core.

The most impressive thing he can do is have a bunch of talented kids playing at the WJC in 2019 and 2020.

Making the playoffs next season won't do anything for his job or career.

I think he knows that.
I sure hope so. But to quote what he himself said "Expect the unexpected"

They should move down to 6 or 7 and grab Kotkaniemi.

Stock up on all those picks and really turn this thing around.

You guys have so many picks. It's going to be so much fun watching what they do.

For any other team, except the Oilers, we'd be looking at the draft with anticipation. Not here though.

The last time Bergevin had good picjs, he managed to trade the picks that became Girard and Debrincat for Andrew Shaw, as well as trading Eller and a few days later, PK Subban. And in the span of a calendar year, he had no one remaining from the first two rounds, since he absolutely wanted the sulkiest winger in the league.

He says a lot of things, it seems.

He could come out and pull off a bunch of moves where you guys hit 93 points next season and sneak in but his career as a GM would be finished. The most impressive thing would be for him to stockpile picks and young assets. That's the only way he'll ever get another job. Nobody wants to hire a guy that will save himself at the cost of the organization.

The situation is different now.

You guys see what it is. There is no way the market would accept a Shaw trade this time around.

There is no way for Bergevin to even justify making a move like that.

It would be career suicide. I really don't think you guys have anything to worry about. Even with MB at the helm. I think he's in a position where there is really only one option and that is to build it properly. He might go out and move picks for a 20-something year old player but I think he can salvage those picks by moving guys like Petry or Max.

I get the sense of uncertainty and anxiety, though.

So I was at my barbers as my boys were getting a hair cut.

Guy comes in and sits down. He isn't looking for a hair cut. He had an epiphany and wanted to talk about it.

Habs should draft the 6'3" Brady Tkachuk because they need a guy to CREATE offence. I'm like, he scored 8 goals. Sure he said but he killed it at the under 20s and his father is Keith Tkachuk, who says Brady is tougher and better than he was. I looked in the man's eyes and knew just to keep moving.

Got to the car, he had followed me and kept going on Tkachuk. The guy had just figured out the key to taking our 1st step back to greatness and needed to tell it. At this very moment he may be trying to reach TT to make sure TT understands who we need select.

I hope we can trade up for Svech. Seems it will be simpler then.

I think the determining factor is whether it's easier to get a Zadina or a Tkachuk in 2019 or 2020.

If you can get a big, talented power winger in 2019, you take Zadina this year.

If your scouts think 2019 is filled with talented offensive wingers, you take Tkachuk.

I just think I'd much rather add Tkachuk to the organization than just drafting offensive gifted wingers. Tkachuk adds a dynamic that could really help with building a proper team. That's why Edmonton went out and overpaid for Lucic. They have drafted RNH, Puljujarvi, etc. but they needed a guy that could make an impact without just scoring goals.

I think Tkachuk is that guy.

You see what his brother is doing in Calgary. You guys will get your Gaudreau and Monahan at some point but if you pass on that big, talented, aggressive winger this time around, it could take a while before you have a crack at one.

You were ambushed by a prospects stalker on roids, who imagined himself having Tkachuk's "bloodlines".

Moral of the story: go to a different barber. :sarcasm:

We aren't trading up for a winger. I think you either stand pat at 3 and take Zadina, or trade down a couple spots and address need with either Kotkaniemi or Hughes.

There is enough separation between Svech and whoever is on the radar at the 3OA spot so it's not about a position issue, but the BPA and how much it would cost to move up. I want the best player that can be had, regardless if he's a winger or not.

Its easier to get wingers than centers, no matter the year. Top 6 wingers plus centers that get converted to W, etc. Its always been like that, look at the Habs winger lineup vs centers over the past decade.
