By the same narrative you're expecting people to take your word for it and praise you.

Just because someone watches 16 games of a prospect doesn't mean they know what they're looking for.

Also, if many of you have a compiled list if 100+ prospects you should really reach out to NHL teams. I mean why pay numerous scouts all that money and their plane tickets/hotel fare for them when you can get someone who claims to watch a ton of games for the prospects while watching a bunch of NHL games ? You'd save franchises millions of dollars. Why are you wasting your talents here?!

And yet the same criticisms and opinions are fine when it comes to pro scouting.

If someone thinks an NHL trade is awful, you'll see less posters call them out or defer to the "pros".

Yet those trades were done and scouted by professionals... like they could ever be wrong, right ?

For some reason, that same way of thinking doesn't extend itself to amateur scouting on this board.

At that's even ignoring a pretty important detail: no one here is claiming to be better than anyone else. We're giving opinions based on our own viewings (and yeah, it's often 10-15-20-25 games of a given prospect), because that's the whole point of a message board.

So, your issue here is that we're using this place the way it was meant to be used

Speaking of American centers. Here's some more sexy plays by O'Brien at that last tournament with Cape Cod. He's #9.

Also uploading a 2 game USHL highlights pack on YT. @thefeebster must have crazy internet for those hours long packs.

You "draft junkies" have once insisted for almost 6 years that Patrick Berglund was a better player than Claude Giroux. So yeah. Here's that.

And how many players were picked ahead of Claude Giroux by professionals and weren't near as good?

What about all those professionals in the OHL who didn't draft him and he went to the Q?

Is the point of your argumentation that draft junkies think they are 100% accurate? Cause that's wrong and no draft junky actually deals in absolutes because we know that a very good prospect like Galchenyuk can be put in wrong hands and have their ultimate upside compromised by the terrible misuse of them by professionals like Michel Therrien.

It's only ever in june they have this issue. The other 11 months of the year, it's just fine. We can actually talk about prospects, and use our big boy words to communicate our opinions about them in relative peace. These opinions can even be unpopular! But come June, the f***in' stazi roll in to confiscate any degenerate abstract lists.

Wanted to do one initially but bloody hell it takes forever to upload. I'll see what I can do.

Just to give you an idea, it takes me like 2 hours to upload 9mins or 10Gb of 720p 60fps footage. Mad props to @thefeebster for uploading full shift-by-shifts.

Do you live in a unabomber cabin serviced by those ''rural internet'' companies advertised during CHL games?

Thing is I got pretty damn fast down speed, at 70mbps. But my up isn't worth shiet.

Ya I really, really like O'Brien. If there's a Braydon Point in this draft, my guess is it's him.
That's a pretty good player comparison actually. He's got a scrappy but very smart and skilled game, like Point.

One of the things I like the most is he's an absolute puck thief. I've yet to see a game where he doesn't strip the puck from someone by out-smarting them or just by sheer hustle. He's really good at cutting off angles.

I don't want any praise and I don't want any one to take my word for it either, but that doesn't change the fact that saying someone's opinion is flat out wrong when they've spent time watching that player rather read a report, is a bit different than someone giving a report on a player after multiple viewings.

We do this in here for fun but there is definitely value for a team to actually scour places like this for additional input on players; not to take anyone's word for it but to gather further information, identify trends and compare and contrast to things they have seen.

I wouldn't actually want to be a NHL scout. It's fun as a hobby and to watch from the comfort of your home, but taking planes and spending a **** load of time away from your family to watch games? That's a hard life.

There are actual independent scouts who teams can refer to to get an outside look. Yes, some are crazy like someone who use to post here, but some do a ton of work and aren't senial. They can always go there.

Regardless of what the subject is, if a team is looking at Hfboards for an opinion they've come to the wrong place.

There is a difference between being a pro scout (who don't always make the right decisions BTW, they have biases as well), being a fan of prospects and doing your research, watching games, etc... (which a few of us in this thread have done all year) and showing up right before the draft saying "ZADINA AND TKACHUK ARE RANKED HIGH WE WANT THEM" (which quite a few posters have done) and calling out the opinions of some of us have had most of the year since it goes against consensus.

There are those people and then there are people who claim to have watched a ton to rank a bunch of players, but just look at highlights we all have access to on YouTube.

And of course scouts aren't always right.

I see posts that are basically saying (indirectly) that others are wrong or don't know much.

10-15-20-25 views of all the prospects people are talking about ? I can see some being fairly well versed in knowledge of a particular league, but when people here are claiming knowledge (they seem to be portraying the knowledge is vast) of players of all the leagues I have to question that.

People want to post their opinions on a prospect, great! I just find it funny people are acting like their assessment of a prospect is right and when anyone else makes a suggestion they're wrong.

Thanks to sportsnet I get to see KHL games and give my opinion with the added fact that I will admit I haven't seen much.

In short great work but just because someone reads the hockey news to make their choices doesn't their wrong or should be mocked.

I've been looking at O'Brien since last Jan/Feb... posted something about him at that point and got the back lash as usual. I love goal scoring centers! Have I said this before? :sarcasm:

I remember watching at him at the American Top Prospects game in September and thinking he looked small. There wasn't that much of a difference between him and Hughes. Definitely looks like he grew an inch maybe two.

I really like Toni Utunen's game.

I was watching some of the U18s today and Santeri Salmela looks so good for a guy who is so completely, totally, utterly offensively useless. He even has moves n shit. Dirty dangles that he only uses to evade forecheckers.

lol. I'm watching a 5 Nations Boqvist shift-by-shift, seeing lots of Utunen in it.

What's the knock on Beaudin? On the smaller side but position of need and one of the top scoring D in the Q but don't see any love for him on these boards
