Who is this Kyle Mandleur kid? Was just checking out O'Brien's stats, and he's a 2001 with 2.81ppg in prep school hockey. He's 6'5, 220, and will be playing for the Catamounts next year in the greatest non-professional league on earth.

Yes, he has 1C potential. I’m not being facetious here. Assume he develops properly and reaches potential, he’d definitely be a 1C for us, but also for many teams. He’s not going to be in the franchise center range (McDavid, Matthews, Crosby) of 1C, but he’ll still be a quality center.
Then he is my guy at 3

2018 NHL Draft: Top 50 Prospects

watching this guy not realize that no good russian forwards being selected in the top 15 means that they are underdrafted is magical. Absolutely magical.

It's as if he thinks that because Kuzya, Kuch, and Tank were drafted later, that's why they're elite forwards. There's something about being Russian and drafted after 25 that makes players incredible.

Joe Veleno, 2nd overall...............................................

After rewatching some u18 Finn games and focussing only on Kotkaniemi, Im not convinced he is a natural center... He is not bad down the middle and is winning ton of faceoffs but at times I havent been impressed with his positionning neither I was with his skating... Overall, he has a very good hockey IQ, some great hands, good passing, good creativity and a good shot, I like him alot but if he is going to end up as a winger, Im wondering if he is the right pick to do at 3...

Lol... hes going to end up as a winger Reasons: Unknown.

A team that wants him to play C will see him play C full time. Plus Id much rather take a chance on a potential C than a winger..

He might pretty well adjust and become a pretty good center with further playing time at that position since he is a smart player, Im just bringing the hypothesis that it might not happen either at this point since he didnt look like the most pure natural center I saw positionally from my viewing of the last U18... He played wing in the liga, my guess is that skating and positional play isnt quite there yet as a Pro...

If we're looking to trade down to #5, as LeBrun insinuated, I'd think that really points to the Habs leaning towards taking Kotkaniemi.

Passing on Zadina will still hurt for me. I think he develops into 60-70 point 35-40 goal scorer. He's solidified himself at #3 for me, with some separation from the pack of players ranked 4-10 in my eyes.

I'm never a fan of picking for position, but if Timmins has Kotkaniemi on equal footing (or better) with Zadina, Dobson, Boqvist, Wahlstrom, Hughes, etc, then he's the right pick.
