lmao. ''Also, Zadina is with the Mooseheads and they've had some pretty good EU imports these past years (hello Ehlers and Hischier). Tkachuk simply has it in his blood. He was raised to do this. Slothkaniemi? He didn't do bad against men, while playing as a winger. I'd even prefer Veleno to him.''

This is ****ing incredible reading. Bloodlines, euro imports (while ignoring Meier) and ''I'd even prefer Veleno to him.''
Wait. What source is this lmao

Why wouldn't he have that upside ? He has all the tools to do it.

I said "likely", because there aren't many ppg centers who also go on historic playoff runs. He's already tied Crosby's highest playoff point total.

He also combines most of Kotkaniemi's skillset with one of the most beautiful skating strides I've seen.

I see him more as a Granlund/O'Reilly production level. Anything more would be gravy.

Agreed. Kuzya is just so smooth.

I may be in the minority, but I'm not all that high on Kotkaniemi. 'Course I don't dislike the guy and have him at 7, I'd just be disappointed if we took him third because I don't see the elite potential some of you guys see in him. His skating isn't even a worry, just most of the defensemen have higher ceilings, and are more dynamic. I see a good 2C in him, not a 1C that does everything.

I'm also heavily biased in favour of dmen this year. I'm hoping for plenty of good blueliners this year, centers next year.

I want both.

After Detroit, you have to think one of those teams would interested in Pacioretty.

Man, the best draft day meltdown might be on r/habs if we don't draft Zadina.

We should stream the draft day thread on PPV. HF may have to have a membership drive when its over. RIP Zadina fans, he isn't coming here.

Deal with it

I’m not too high on Kotkaniemi either, at least relative to other players this year I would rather get. That said, even with some of his question marks, if we do draft him, he’d be easily the best center, let alone best prospect in our system.

I'm just not high on Tkachuk, Kotkaniemi or Zadina. Svechnikov or maybe Wahlstrom are the only FWDs I want, and Wahlstrom pisses me off a lot, so I'm pro-dman.

Yup, got Wahlstrom and a few D a shot my first choices before Zadina and Kotkaniemi. Tkachuk is outside my top-10.

IN A PERFECT WORLD :

Marc the man would trade for the 5th ( i would go 6th but heard the Wings want Kotka) for a swap of the 3ov+ a nice piece.

that way we get Kotka + a nice piece

But if we are targeting Kotkaniemi, you might as well just take him. Teams would love to add a bluechip center prospect that is already doing very well in a mens league. You are setting yourself for disappointment if you are risking your top guy just to get an extra asset. If it works out, great, if not, you will be kicking yourself for the next decades.

I reaaaallly doubt ottawa would pick him to be frank, but even if we would just go with Dobson or Veleno

Then you'd be favoring a choice based on position, not BPA. Any center from the first round would be the best center in the Habs's system -- that's not exactly a standard of excellence. A Bergevin special 7 off seasons in the making.

Kyle Woodlief was on NHL.com, on May 18th. I don't think anyone posted the link:

And just as had happened with Mark Edwards, a now familiar name creeps up in this segment as one of his sleepers: Jay O'Brien.

Woodlief had another segment with the NHL network today, but can't find a podcast.

Anyone?

Well, that would be assuming Kotkaniemi is the BPA at #3, which I don’t think he is. It happens that I think the BPA after Dahlin and Svechnikov is Boqvist. I’ve been pretty steadfast in saying it’s Boqvist, Wahlstrom and Hughes for me at #3 to #5. Of course, this is very likely not how draft day goes down.

Anyhow, my point was more on my personal list of BPA and not the consensus, and I get the reasoning listing Kotkaniemi at #3. I just don’t agree he’s BPA, thus my #3 is based on who I think is BPA who happens to be a defenceman.

If Montreal takes Zadina, Detroit might take Kotkaniemi. Unless they're really big on one of the defensemen, which is hard to say. Gotta think though, they'd be after the centre.

If Kotkaniemi keeps rising and Montreal takes Zadina like they should; they might have to target Arizona's 5th overall pick, which is a tall order.
