Who said this draft is average? It's deep isn't it?

It has an excellent top 2 with a potential generational defenseman, a strong top 13 and lot of US and european talent, making picks 20-45 fairly even and with interesting upside.

There's a big, sudden drop off around the third imo.

That was my point. Trading for picks isn't that difficult. Tatar got back a 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the deadline. But you have to actually draft well. The Lucic deal was fine, but Boston traded a building block piece for a 1st and two 2nds, none of which looked great even at the time.

This draft is considered average, not very good.

The whole narrative of this and the wizardry of this is the fact that they DID have the balls to trade Lucic. We're talking about the best power forward at the time in the NHL, a huge fan favorite but what they also saw was an aging player, while young had huge mileage on his body. They were extremely smart not to commit long term, rarely such players stay in their prime post 30. RARELY.

I'd love to see our brain damaged GM have the balls to trade Weber which is in the same place now. It's now or never.

Hayton is not "way too high."

I've actually watched him live several times.

There's something to be said for not just his skill, but his consistency.

Playing as well as he did in the playoffs - three tough and physical series - allows for better evaluation than any Under-18 tourney can.

The U-18s are non-contact by comparison.

He's way undervalued on this board.

The draft will bear it out, too.

Lets say we use the Sens and Coyotes against each other and our plan is to take either Dobson or Kotkaniemi. Work a deal with the Coyotes if they want Zadina bad so we screw over the Sens and we get a 2019 2nd in the process. The deal would be that the Coyetes take Zadina. Then we see what the Sens do and I seriously doubt they go after Kotkaniemi. If they do, we have plenty of other options... Dobson, Boqvist, Wahlstrom, Tkachuk.

Tell the Sens we are trading down to the Coyotes cause we are not taking Zadina. If they want to beat the Coyetes offer, let them try.

Carlo is a stay at home D-man. DeBrusk is a good middle 6 winger. McAvoy is really good. They also didn't need to make those trades to get any of those guys. Particularly the Hamilton trade, which still looks as awful as it did when they made the trade.

Boston bounced back because they have the best top line in hockey, a good goalie, good center depth and enough D to get by. They didn't bounce back because they made good trades around Lucic and then mostly bungled the picks they got or because they traded a really young top pair D-man for cheap.
Carlo is a force, MacAvoy is a force, Debrusk with 43 pats in his rookie season, 6 goals in 12 playoff games. As for Hamilton, he didn’t want to be a Bruin so considering, they did well.

Needless to say, the Bruins are a power house while the team he inherited was not.

This is a good draft

How about a D who puts the puck in the net?

#Boqvist

waaaaay too small with our current roaster... Imagine the roaster in 5 years how small they would be, fleury/mete/boqvist/brook top 4 and avg of 5'11

( still a freaking insanely talented D roaster, now let's hope Bergy don't trade any of them..)

Trevor T from the Habs said the other day , size doesn't matter....

Until he is gone , will be smurfs ..about the size of it ...

Why would they be worried about the current roster when he won't be in his prime for 6 years. What the current roster is, should have zero effect on your draft choices. If it did (like it has recently, idiotically), Gainey wouldn't have taken Carey Price at 5.

Can you explain this more? Average? I don't agree. The 1st round typical talent extends to middle ish of the 2nd round in this draft. It becomes normal somewhere around the 3rd round IMO.

guys we gotta consider that some others team might be on the kotka bandwagon teams at the end of the day its all mind games until the draft and who knows what could happen its going to be an intereting draft would be surprise to see a lot of trades

He had 18 goals and 44 points that season and one year left on his contract. They missed the play-offs. Who here thinks Bergevin has big balls for shopping Pacioretty? If we're talking about a Weber analogue, the Bruins didn't have one, but Bergeron would be a closer comparable than Lucic.

it does when you are choosing Between 2 ridiculously talented D guy - Dobson or Boqvist. As much as I love Boqvist and his speed I don't think he would fit well in Montreal

If Boqvist is more skilled and a better skater than you take him and vice versa. If they project to be equal (in Timmins' mind) than you take the bigger size, I agree. However, it's pointless cause they're taking Zadina or Kotkianiemi. I checked with Miss Cleo, and it be true.

Trades are hard, MB is lazy. He's just going to take Kotkaniemi at 3.

And you can see the ressemblance between PK and Boqvist playstyle.... And It didn't end that well for our boy PK
