Every team is a threat to take a center, theyre the biggest trade chip you can have.

Exactly. If we get Kotkaniemi and then we draft Dach next year then Poehling doesn't have to stretch himself into a #2.. finally the Habs have a center line that can compete.

I don't think the Sens, Coyetes, Canucks, Rangers, Oilers are taking Kotkaniemi. Look at their depth charts... You think they take a gamble on Kotkaniemi over the other guys ranked in the top 10?
Depth chart doesn't mean squat. A team is build on currency, the currency here is players and those 1C/blue chip C prospect are the million dollar bills of the game.

Or the three of them develop into top 6 centers and we get to trade one away for help somewhere else.

I think Bobby Ryan is harsh, Zadina could have a similar impact to Laine, Pacioretty or Nash if everything went over well, Tarasenko/Kovalchuk is Svechnikov territory.
Well I divide it up a bit differently. I have Laine closer to the Ovechkin/Kovalchuk tier. I then have a next tier which is the Tarasenko/Pastrnak/Forsberg tier (keep in mind Pastrnak and Forsberg are still ascending). I think Zadina can very much be a part of that tier if everything goes well.

If there was even probability to these things sure. But Zadina is much more likely a 40 goal guy than Kotkaniemi is a Legit #1 C.

Why ? There have been very, very few 40 goal scoring wingers since the lockout.

You're talking about an even more remote event than a first line center, how does he have "much more" chance of arriving at a harder event ?

He's the better player? And I'm not saying consistent 40, I'm saying touching 40 while living in the 35 range ala Tarasenko.

Lol, ok bud.

Guess which players had more similar draft seasons, Kotkaniemi and 1st line centers or Zadina and recent 40 goal scorers ?

I know where you are going with this, but look at what Zadina did at the U18s last year, the WJC, and the top prospect game.

Zadina is closer to James Neal or Anaheim Bobby Ryan than Tarasenko.

Tarasenko is a god damn beast.

Yeah Svechnikov is more Tarasenko. Zadina is what, like Anders Lee/James Neal?

I think it’s laughable to compare Kotkaniemi to Lars Eller. Lars played in the SHL and had similar stats to Kotakaniemi’s draft year in his D+2 season, as a 19/20 year old. Kotkaniemi is at a whole other level at 17.

I think it's more laughable to compare Kotkaniemi to Poehling, but someone in this thread made some wild claims last year about Poehling and needs to save face. I don't know how one can be close to the best U20 prospect in hockey, and in the same tier as Lars Eller simultaneously. Oh what a tangled web we weave...

I mean, Jesperi outproduced Ryan last year at the U18s, nevermind this year. Comparing their draft seasons in their respective leagues, it's not even close.

The Tarasenko example is his perfect world potential though his development path requires little projection.

The Tarasenko example is a no world potential for Zadina. He simply does not impact the game the same way. Tarasenko is an absolute bull with playmaking instincts, insane power in his legs and lower body and hands that are top notch.

Unless Zadina gets a body transplant and develops a bunch of skills he doesn't have, they aren't the same player.

Nice knowing the Habs are having a European Combine, taking in all the knowledge possible for players ranked in their Top Euro's. This draft promises to be exceptional in many ways, using all the tools in the box is the only way to get any job done perfectly.(Closer to having all the chips on the table, knowledge in evaluating prospects from every area Great Idea) Screw the cost if it gets the Habs SCC #25, Berggren, Kaut, Kupari, Lundkvist, Eriksson, Lindbom, Marchenko, Olofsson, Kravtsov, Lundestrom, Bokk, Ginning, Johansson, Lauko, Hallander & Ylonen amongst others getting serious Attn.!!!...:devdance::devdance::devdance: Going to the Dance(SCC) seems to be Molson/Bergevin priority #1 with this Entry Draft. Hopefully the Habs make some waves/trades for more early round picks, Timmins looks excited for this draft, moreso than the 2012. :walrus::walrus::walrus:Having 4 - 2nd's is reason for optimism, winning #3 OV was a positive outcome too. Wondering how NYI's trading for Capt. Max to play LW with Tavares is being valued, two 1st's would give the Habs a Sammy Pollock type of entry draft feel. Seven picks in the first 62 or three in the Top 7 even better possibly. Can the Habs get 2 top Dman & a Top Center in this draft?:dm::dm::dm:Truly enjoying the Habs new Transparency, holding your cards close to the inside pocket for this Entry Draft, Sammy Pollock Style. Go Habs Go!!!...:thumbu::thumbu::thumbu:

Still remember the startled looks from many Scouts at the 2015 entry Draft, when the Habs took Lukas Vejdemo(LHC) in the 3rd round. European scouting about to pay some big dividends in the Habs future, that's right you heard it here straight goods.:laugh::laugh:

I said Tarasenko level not as a stylistic comparison. On the other side of the coin Zadina has much better agility

I know many won't like it, but I don't care about what other teams draft. I want the Habs to pick the best player but when you have 3 to 11 or so all so close together I understand that even though they are picking higher, they might not end up with the best of bunch say 10 years later. We tried to go for need in the past with defensemen in '06 and size in '13. Tell MB to stay away and let Timmins pick the guy he thinks will be the best player no matter the position. If another team behind us gets the better player then so be it, it's not easy to project who's going to be the best player in 5 years. We need to nail the pick and get a very good NHLer, that's all I ask.

Also, what's draft wired ?

a waste of time

If you are using TSN’s list then fine, so let’s go to TSN’s list for Kotkaniemi.....he’s 10th

Except two teams picking in the top 8 have taken him to dinner so at the very least he's in the consideration for top 8 by NHL teams. And Montreal also took him to dinner so that means he's a 3-8 ranges prospect right now
