I think he is the type of center we need! Now if we can only find a real offensive center to play above him on the depth chart. I rather a big center who can skate vs a small center who can skate! Our wingers need a gritty center with offense IMO.
I think he projects as a similar quality player to Danault.

Bergeron? Simmer down now... Danault is probably a realistic projection, he doesn't and will never have Bergeron's offense, or defense for that matter.
Hayton has a TON more skill than you are giving him credit for. I imagine the same people who hate Hayton, hated Scheifele his draft year as well...

You realize I'm talking about Poehling, right?
I'm having a terrible time in this thread lol

But regardless, Poehling is definitely a cut above Danault. I like Danault, but he's limited in his tool kit. Poehling actually has very underrated puck skills and has Danault especially beat in the playmaking department.

I think Dobson will be the 2nd dman picked
Could happen. I think if we are taking the 2nd Dman off the board though, it should be Hughes. As good as Dobson looks in juniors, Hughes shared the ice with some of the best players on the planet and didn't look out of place- was dominant in college too.

Gun to my head I'd probably take Hayton over Thomas. Not that I'm super high on either mind you but I'd be fine with them around the mid 20's range.
I'll take Dellandrea over both anyday.

1st option, but they’re different skaters.

Both are a slight above average. Kotkaniemi has good straightline speed but has limited balance and agility. Zadina has limited straightline speed but excellent balance and edgework.

Right now I prefer Zadina’s skating as many snipers have shown to be effective while not being speed demons (Laine, Boeser, Tarasenko). Zadina doesn’t need to beat you with speed because he has the hands and agility to make defenders look silly.

Kotkaniemi has pretty good agility. He's just terrible off the blocks.

Zadina is a better skater though.

Pietrangelo level offense.

Watching the World Championships, you know what I think is happening with Hughes? People see McAvoy, who's 73, Martinez, who's 23, and Hughes, who's 43, as a single super defenceman. That's the only explanation I have for his surge in popularity, and comparison with Dahlin on the mainboard.

The world championship is such garbage that I refuse to even watch it.

I've been seeing the same 3-4 posters who are touting Hughes here, moreso recently. I guess there must be more outside sources that have taken a different stance? A handful of posters is not a surge in popularity per se.

I don't think it's some huge coincidence that he's still playing, and his games are freely available, and this starts happening. It's not a great conspiracy that, say, Alexander Alexeyev isn't currently being hyped.

No one's alleging a conspiracy. It's just that a surge in popularity infers that there is tangible support for the player. I've only seen 3 or 4 posters here in the past week, tout the player with more conviction, however I don't know what is going on elsewhere.
