I agree that he may not take over the game. But do you always need him to? If he can be a rock solid, smooth skating, heads up defender, isn't that a good thing? H may not be a Subban or Karlsson or Doughty but whats wrong with a Suter?
In a nutshell ? Nah, it's fine.

In Habsland, picking 3RD OVERALL ? I certainly hope so.

Ex NHLers sons who play C and are universally praised by their coaches and teammates for their work ethic, commitment to defense and attitude.

I'm glad you didn't use the dreaded "bloodlines" reference.

Although, I'm always wary when an ex-coach's son is involved -- allegiances run deep in hockey and not all of them are motivated by good faith. Are they really thinking it or are they careful about not antagonizing someone who can make life miserable for them down the line?

We did with Reway, didn’t work....maybe it would with this guy.....

Reway like Nygren were good picks but didn't work out due to illness/injury. Reway at 20 was leading the Czech league in scoring, is a great playmaker that if he matured I think he would have at least gotten a good look in the NHL same for Nygren who the Habs said they had planned on calling him up but he was out with a concussion.

Still thinking the Habs need to seriously consider talking with the Panthers about Jared McCann(C - 21yrs. old) & their 1st(15th OV) & 2nd(34th OV) round picks for Max Pacioretty. This would be a great package for both teams, Habs get a possible 2nd line center, the 15th pick which can be used with 3- 2nd's to move up for either Kotkaneimi or Dobson. Keeping #3 for Zadina (RW) that can star for the Habs, with Lehkonen(LW) & McCann(C) nice young line for the future.

I would not do it for McCann. But Paccioretty for Henrik Borgstrom +Something (prospect or pick), yeah.
Borgstrom is almost NHL ready.

Subban has elite edgework but his acceleration/top speed are not incredible (not bad either). The problem is that people consider skating one attribute when it is a combination of several characteristics.
Yeah, he does have incredible edge work and hes strong as a horse on skates, incredible balance, but he's still not a rocket on skates, which means hes somewhere along the lines of average to good.

Bouchard is a non-physical Byfuglien. Great offence, average skater, can’t rely on him defensively.

How much of it is due to his usage though, and how much of it can get better?

Defense is one of those things that scare the old timers away but shouldn't scare away anyone else.

Gotta say...I still like Quinn Hughes...

I know Zadina is the perceived BPA and this team needs goal scoring but I really like Hughes. He is such an amazing skater, great puck skills, good defender. It's hard to compare RW to D but I think Hughes can have as big an impact from D as Zadina can from the wing.

I would take Hughes at 3 and trade Pacioretty for Edmonton's 1st +. Look at how McDavid dishes the puck off the rush and off the cycle, Max is very well suited to be his finisher. I would take Kotkaniemi with their 1st. Adding those 2 players this year + hopefully some really solid 2nds and other picks could go a long way in turning around this team.

There are so much prospects I like in the top ten this year. Other then Bouchard, I think everyone is a great option. Svech and Zad are amazing. Hughes and Boqvist are amazing. I LOVE Dobson and Kotkaniemi. Tkachuk is hated too much IMO like the dude doesnt have the most potential but I bet he still puts up 20-30 or 30-30 most seasons.

We would only do this if Svech was gone though.

I like both Hughes/Boqvist - (both are offensively gifted & great skaters, I will be extremely happy if the Habs can acquire Edmonton's pick for Max. Getting any of Svechnikov/Zadina or Hughes/Boqvist with our #3 and Kotkaneimi with Edmonton's pick. Having 4 - 2nd's just icing on the cake, hoping somehow the Habs can draft Veleno in the late 1st or early 2nd round, Dellandrea & Khovanov as well giving the Habs huge Center/Wing depth for the future, Tychonick is a defenceman I would be overjoyed to select in the 2nd round, doubtful though. Habs fans will be hardpressed to sleep the Entry Draft weekend, I will be far to excited to see which prospects the Habs will pick to even think about sleeping. Go Habs Go!!!... If the Habs don't take Zadina, I hope they get Dom Bokk(In the late 1st or early 2nd) he's a pretty good winger IMHO!!!...:walrus::walrus::walrus: Having Zadina(RW) + Galchenyuk(LW) with Drouin(C), then Boqvist(great shot) & Weber (Cannon) on the points for the 1st PP unit, phenomenal IMHO!!!...:devdance::devdance::devdance:Kotkaneimi(C) + Lehkonen(LW) + Zadina(RW) would also be a killer line, IMHO. with Weber & Juulsen on the points great too.

Perhaps the Habs can acquire the 2nd OV from Carolina for Max Pacioretty, with Svechnikov(RW)2nd OV & Zadina(RW)3rd OV, the Habs 1st line being Galchenyuk - Drouin - Svechnikov, 2nd line being Lehkonen(LW) - Poehling(C) - Zadina(RW), 3rd line Hudon(LW) - Danault(C) - Gallagher(RW), Amazing Top Nine very young and all capable offensively. With 4 - 2nd's to choose some more high quality defencemen, adding to the 4 drafted from the WHL last year. The Habs should be talking to Pierre Page about developing all the Habs young prospects, ensuring the best opportunities for all of the prospects in Laval. Just my opinion, but he seems to be the best option as the GM/Coach or as an Advisor/ Consultant.
Adding 4 - 2nd's to the Defence;
Ryan Merkley**
Alex Alexeyev
Kevin Bahl**
Jett Woo
Jonny Tychonick**
Calen Addison
Nichlas Beaudin**
Jacob Bernard-Docker

Any of these eight Defencemen are great prospects added to;

Josh Brook
Cale Fleury
Jarrett Tyszka
Scott Walford
The Habs defence is coming along just fine, as Victor Mete, Noah Juulsen & Brett Lernout have shown they are very capable of being NHL calibre, the prospects above are playing very well in the WHL for their teams. The Habs scouting is a strength, they should spend big money getting the best available hockey coaching people from the hockey world, Pierre Page is one of them. Hire him before Colorado does that's my advice. Joel Bouchard is another, hire a coach for each prospect if that's what it takes to ensure each player gets every advantage possible.

Ruslan didn't play in the KHL this year. I dunno, I just think he's too small and not quick enough to make it. I do like him, though. He's feisty and very skilled. He has that ''try and stop me'' attitude which leads to him pulling off some spectacular plays.

We're finding in the later rounds of our mock draft that this draft is awfully top heavy, so at a certain point I really wouldn't mind picking him, but he's not one of my favourites.
Sorry, I meant the M. But I think Iskhakov is a sleeper. Yes, his size makes him a shot in the dark. Had a good U18. Has sweet hands, certainly worth the risk. Was thinking about him in 3rd round but may take him with Capitals pick around 60? He is also among the younger draftees, tore up league in scoring last season, and this year averaged almost a point per game in the M. There is something there!

Svechnikov is unfortunately worth A LOT more the Patches. The 3OA will have to be included in the trade if we want Svech.
