Skating is overrated, especially when you're as smart as Bouchard and you have the type of shot he has.

Dobson is toolsy, and smart, but he's not an offensive Dman, not close to Suter and certainly not to Pietrangelo.
Skating is DEFINITELY not overrated in the NHL. In fact, its probably the MOST important aspect in the league. Bouchard has a low ceiling and is listed as a 'safe' pick because he isn't very skilled he's more of a strength/physical player. However Dobson's ceiling is skyhigh and he is MUCH more skilled.

What true #1 D's right now arent good skaters?

Wait, whos saying Bouchard is a "strength/Physical/safe player" ? Thats one of the weirdest claims ive seen.

I don't like the prospects in the top 10 save for Dahlin, Svech, Kotkaniemi and Boqvist, here I said it. It's gonna suck.

Zadina is just a shooter.
Dobson is missing something.
Hughes is a manlet and plays pond hockey.
Wahlstrom is a bit better of a shooter but he's a marshmallow.
Bouchard is soft on D.

Bouchard reminds me a bit of Sergachev indredible offensive tools questionable defensively. Dobson is totally made for the NHL. He can play defensively, he can contribute offensively, he has offensive tools. He has huge upside.

Bouchard seems a lot smarter than Sergachev, and he doesn't have his physical tools.

Dobson is going to make the NHL for sure, but again, f*** this making the NHL bogus. Lets go for game breakers.

I need more of your hot takes. Keep going.

He's not as bad as Weber but he's not as good as Subban either. Somewhere in the middle. Would definitely be among the worst skating #1 D's if he ever gets there.
And Hughes would be the smallest 1D and the 1D with the worst shot in the NHL.

I deduce from this, that being above 5'09 is more important than being a really good skater and also that shooting ability is more important than skating.

There we go, solved another problem.

I also have my concerns with Hughes being a #1. I don't with Dobson, Boqvist or even Smith. I have them:

Dahlin

Boqvist
Dobson/Smith/Hughes
Bouchard

Hughes can be the first of that kind of D in the new NHL. But he's in that middle tier for the risk.

Smith, Boqvist and Bouchard to me have the best shot at it. Dobson is looking a lot like the one that will always scratch that but won't ever get there. His skating is insanely good, he's a heads up player, his shot is fine, he's physical at times, etc. Face value, he's a near perfect player. Watching a highlight video of him, you might think he's better than Dahlin because he can do it all and he seems to have all the tools you want, but I've seen every single player listed here be gamebreakers, but Dobson. He was fantastic last game in the POs, but did he really "take over" ? I can't say that. He's a lot more Weber in his play than he is Subban.

I agree that he may not take over the game. But do you always need him to? If he can be a rock solid, smooth skating, heads up defender, isn't that a good thing? H may not be a Subban or Karlsson or Doughty but whats wrong with a Suter?

I’ll preface this by saying I’m not suggesting the Habs should do this, just genuinely interested in what the perceived value is;

3rd overall for 11th and 12th. Interesting concept, however I think the Islanders need to add. Would be very worth it if Kotkaniemi were left at 11 but that seems highly unlikely now.

So essentially:
Zadina for

Two of Ty Smith, Veleno, Kotkaniemi, Kupari, Tkachuk, Farabee, Hayton, Wilde, etc?

Maybe better to preface every type of hoped for trade permutation by the usual caveat, "if we had a competent GM". We're not going to trust a lame duck GM with a shoddy record for adding talent in the last 2-3 years to pull off moves that require any level of risk. Instead of a 3OA we might end up with a 10th and 11th OA and no Kotkaniemi. This is not the GM I want to see making moves that require a certain degree of foresight -- he hasn't proven capable of it.

1st time here.

Is there any talk of Habs trying to trade out of 3 for the 11,12 picks from the Islanders?
Hate to lose out on Zadina but having 6 picks in first 2 rounds could go a long way to filling needs!

None. Just fans speculating on a fan board.
