I rarely, rarely get hyped about prospects. Call me pessimistic, I like to think I’m just a realist.

I’m hyped about Miller. Just a gut feeling thing about him. Last time I felt this way about a prospect of ours was another blue liner from Wisconsin who ended up being our captain for a while.

Now... lets get back to our regularly scheduled programming of how much ass will Miller kick at the NHL level? I bet a ton.
I think that two things are going to be need to be seen. He has a mean streak, but how much will he use it. And can he develop a shot from the point. If time proves positives to both, I think that he can be a Byfuglien. Some similarities in development here. Or a Chara-light. Clearly it is way too early and anything can happen. Not only that, it needs to be remembered that he is not that long into his career as a defenseman.

Relax, I'm not sensitive about anything. You're flying off the handle based on a lot of assumptions. I'm not calling anyone racist. It's just a natural thing to do and it happens with Europeans all the time. The reason I'm asking this is I want to know if the Seth Jones comparison is legit or not, not because I want to call anyone racist. Lots of assumptions and anger here for no reason.

If I misunderstood, then I apologize.

I wasn't, "flying off the handle." It was more like an "ugh, here we go again."

No worries bud. I just feel like some people (not you), jump to that conclusion right away.

... and now back to the topic at hand. Our future beast of a defenseman.

Well said. I think the sky is the limit for this kid. Where he ends up is a huge mystery but the potential is there. Regardless of where he ends up, he will be a better skater than both Byfuglien and Chara, that is for sure. I was super excited when we drafted him and I am even more excited now.

In my limited viewings of him, he reminds me more of McDonagh than anyone and I think that is largely due to Miller's skating ability.

can i throw out brent burns? admittedly didn't read the entire thread so good chance i'm not the first to the party here, but the freewheeling way he skates / owns the puck circling the entire zone and easily sheds defenders looks familiar. obviously he doesn't have the bomb burns does at this point but the fwd background and playing style/build/skating seem like a style match...

Thanks!

It does look like I need subscription, yeah. I might sign up, but will most likely just rely on you guys for updates as per usual.

Also, are you sure the game isn't 5EST? That's how they have it listed.
Youre right, it is 5EST. For whatever reason my mind did the time zone switch backwards

It was Miller himself who brought up Jones to begin with wasn't it? Which is natural, Jones is a guy he likely can identify with and seemingly looks up to.

Not that lazy comparison's aren't out there all the time, but I'd give them a break on this one.
Yea, the Jones comparison is fine, since he mentioned it himself. It’s the Nurse, Subban, and Byfuglien (although there are at least a couple of aspects of Buff’s game that are comparable) comparisons that are annoying, because that’s not the type of player he is. I like the Parayko comparison, as someone mentioned, and I also see some McDonagh and Ristolainen in him.

Burns is not very good defensively. And Burns’ shooting is a very important part of his style. Miller can only dream of one day having that kind of shot.

I used to loathe this mindset that you always see from random sports fans on the internet - now I just laugh at it. Get over yourself and have some fun, that is what the sport is there for lol
