He had a dissapointing season last year in USHL. He was in most rankings in the top 62 before last season, but fell during the season. Noeway isnt like Sweden and Finland (and even Denmark now) that have multiple players in the league.
With MZA getting closer to the end of his career we need a new player in the top league in the world to keep the main stream media interested. All the media loves and writes a lot about the national team during the WC, but almost nothing on the national league or players doing well in SHL/Liiga.

Its a bit weird, with hockey beeing the 2. most attended spectator teamsport, and also short way to the powerhouse teams in Sweden for young talents to go to and develop at, we get very few players picked, and none of them gets good enough to be a a NHL player.
Even if MEp just can end up as a 3. liner in the league, aslong as he play regular over several years it will keep the main medias focus on the NHL.

Was watching a MSG panel first round recap the other day (so take this with as big of a grain of salt as you deem necessary) and Valiquette said that he text a scout friend on his way to the studio and asked what he could tell him about Miller and the scout answered “Seth Jones” then they went on to talk about how much of a freak athlete he is and likened him to Kreider in that regard, but if I’m remembering right, Miller himself also said he models his game after Jones at the combine

I wonder how much of that comes from them both being black (technically, I believe they're both half black)? Or is it a legit comparison?

Not racist. But definitely prejudiced. And lazy. I’m glad people are calling out those comparisons based on things other than actual style of play.
Again, it’s not racist or even offense, but it’s lazy and useless.

Do we always have to go there? The kid is a big physical specimen who said himself that he models his game on Jones. I don't think everything needs to be so sensitive. This is literally an entire thread about people having wet dreams about what Miller may become. It's the exact opposite of racist.

Can we compare Kravstov to Kuznetsov or are we just being Russian hating racists?

It's perfectly reasonable to call it a lazy comparison if you want, but geez...

It was Miller himself who brought up Jones to begin with wasn't it? Which is natural, Jones is a guy he likely can identify with and seemingly looks up to.

Not that lazy comparison's aren't out there all the time, but I'd give them a break on this one.

From what little I've seen Miller I'm having a tough time finding a comparable....I almost wanna say Brady skjei tbh. But meaner.

If I had to make comparisons for our first round picks, this is what I'd go with. A lazy and a realistic comparison ;)

Lias Andersson
Lazy: Jesper Fast. Both Swedish, both played for HV71
Realistic: Ryan O'Reilly. Solid 2-way center with good vision

Filip Chytil
Lazy: Jaromir Jagr. Both are Czech and both play(ed) for the Rangers
Realistic: Evgeni Malkin. Tall center who has an amazing reach and can dominate shifts with his long strides

Vitali Kravtsov
Lazy: Evgeni Kuznetsov. Both played for Traktor Chelyabinsk
Realistic: Filip Forsberg. Complete player with great individual skill to win games and create chances out of nothing
* This was a tricky one because despite it being a lazy comparison, Kuznetsov is a great comparison haha

Nils Lundkvist
Lazy: Erik Karlsson. Both Swedish, both right-handed, both drafted late in the 1st round
Realistic: Andrei Markov. Steady defensively and a knack for the offensive aspect of the game, yet a very under-the-radar type player

K'Andre Miller
Lazy: PK Subban/Seth Jones/Darnell Nurse: Black defenseman. Best comparison ever /sarcasm
Realistic: Brent Burns. Forward turned defenseman with a great physique and great hands. If Miller improves his defense, I could see a Josi-like comparison making more sense later on

From what I've seen of Kravtsov, FF9 always came to mind the way he constantly challenges defenders 1-on-1 with fancy moves at high speed directly towards the net on his off wing.

Keep in mind, that in some cases, it was the player himself who referenced a particular player as being someone they modeled their game after. Kravtsov with Kuznetsov and Miller with Jones comes to mind.

Finding a comp for K’andre is really tough because he has a lot of weird ticks to his game where I don’t know if they’ll get polished out or if they’ll stick around because he’s made them very effective

Relax, I'm not sensitive about anything. You're flying off the handle based on a lot of assumptions. I'm not calling anyone racist. It's just a natural thing to do and it happens with Europeans all the time. The reason I'm asking this is I want to know if the Seth Jones comparison is legit or not, not because I want to call anyone racist. Lots of assumptions and anger here for no reason.

I feel like I was misunderstood. I didn't ask this because I think the scout was racist. I frankly don't care. Unlike some people, my life doesn't revolve around calling other people racist (by some people, I'm not talking about HF). I just wanted to get the best comparison, that's it.

How many defensemen have we heard over their years who model their game after Brian Leetch, though? How many times has that comparison really worked? I'm not even talking about the obviously lower level of quality. Most of the D who I've seen say they modeled their games after Leetch played nothing like him.

That wasn't direct at you by any means. I know you well enough to know what you're about and there were a ton of posts that followed yours. I'm not going to delete them either because I believe it is a good example as to why we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Now... lets get back to our regularly scheduled programming of how much ass will Miller kick at the NHL level? I bet a ton.

It's a fair point, it just happens so often it makes my eyes roll.

Kravtsov kuznetsov is one for sure that is fair

The Miller vs Jones one...meh. I get thay Miller made the comparison so I'll take the hit on that one.

The lias vs fasth one? Gtfo
