I would be completely on board with this. Skilled, fast as all get-out, good on the PK, young (25 years old)...he'd be a damn good add.
Would he be played as the 2C?

Where would that leave Gaudette then, Utica?I don't think he has the consistency in his game to be a second line offensive center. He's more of a checker and PK artist. He and Sutter could battle it out for the 3rd/4th line C spots.

Has Rieder played center at all in the NHL? He's played wing whenever I've seen him.Would he be played as the 2C?
That's fair, I do like Gaudette, Dahlen and Juolevi having to earn their spots this season. Petersson is the one outlier that I think would have to play him off of the team to be in Utica. Still need a 2C then in a guy like Nash on a 2 year deal unless we want to roll with the chance Gagner gets his head out of his ass.Gaudette shouldn't be gift wrapped a spot. If he shows at camp that he's ready, then he should start as a center - Rieder is capable of playing the wing, as is Sutter. But if Gaudette looks like he needs some time, sending him to Utica will be no bad thing - and then we have an NHL caliber center who an help our PK in Rieder.
Same here, but I was going based on hockeydb listing him as a CHas Rieder played center at all in the NHL? He's played wing whenever I've seen him.
I do like him as a depth forward.
I honestly don't give a **** if that's our reality. Just because we have idiots managing this team does not mean we should lower our standards, and I think there are way too many people who have done that. I'm going to hold them to the same standard that I would hold any management group to. A bad decision is a bad decision, and that should not be acceptable. None of this bullcrap about "oh well it's Benning so you knew he was going to do something stupid, just accept it and give him another contract extension." **** that ****.
maybe we should move the team to san diego for the year. otherwise,
resigning our own fringe players and overpaying free agents is the only way we get warm bodies until we do not suck enough that people actually want to spend a season in this high travel, high tax, high housing cost fishbowl market.
we also have too many developing prospects and players to just pull the pin like the leafs did for a year. we need to suck with some kind of structure and purpose.
[mod] Yes well the reality is that Sutter is signed to 4 mill plus a year and that Jim Benning is our GM - not ideal for some people but we don't live in an ideal world now do we?
[mod] Benning looks like he's here to stay. I really have a hard time seeing him losing his job for what for you would appear to a very long minimum of AT LEAST 2-3 years.
Listen - Benning hasn't been ideal however I tend to think (contrary to you I am sure) that he has improved at his job. No matter of cursing is going to change the fact of things like A) Sutter being an overpaid 3/4th line center and that B) Benning is our GM. We can live in a world of could've, should've and would haves however these are our realities. If you want to ignore that and live in a world with a different reality sure - all the power to you.
You completely ignored my suggestion.
Instead of overpaying players (or rushing prospects) why don't we just sign cheap veterans, deal them at the deadline for picks, and accept that it will be another long season?
because cheap veterans don't sign on terrible canadian fishbowl high travel high tax teams unless they have no other choices or you pay a premium or both.
so i did answer your point.

Ahh so you choose to ignore the reality that they do. You just have to wait a little bit until they've run out of options in some cases.
examples?
I think he meant accepting reality, because it's gonna happen no matter how many posts you make on internet
This..........
Except, like I said, we know it's going to happen. That doesn't mean we should accept it and be happy about it. I'm not lowering my standards. That doesn't make me a "hater" that makes me consistent and fair.
Was going to mention Jussi myself. I think the Canucks are even kinda sweet on him.This..........
You are a lot of things yes indeed.......I would even venture to say consistent is one of them so kudos to you on that.......
If you wanna keep shouting at the air because you aren't happy about something sure - have fun.......at least you are consistently shouting at the air I guess?

And there you go again, deflecting attention away from the issue. Rather responding to my point about Benning being a problem, just ignore all that and comment about me. I guess that's the only way you can defend you beloved Benning.
