I agree with you that Archibald isn't up to the mark NHL wise. I don't think it's a controversial idea at all. I guess time will tell.

Saying that his excellent play was in a small sample size and having questions about whether he can duplicate it is fair.

Watching the games, looking at the results he generated, and coming to the conclusion that he wasn't making the grade is absurd.

If he is as good as MS claims it’s surprising other teams aren’t lining up with one-way deals. Everyone is stupid I guess. Our bottom 6 is trash. Did Archie perform ok relative to the rest of the junk on the team? I guess so. But I think it’s a resonable stance to aim a bit higher for the teams bottom 6. Imo he is an AHL player on a half decent team.

Pass it to Bulis chimes in on the redundancy of Beagle:

"Beagle is also, in some ways, a redundant player. He and Brandon Sutter are remarkably similar, though Sutter has a little more offensive upside and has put up better possession numbers given similar usage. But both are defence-first centres that soak up defensive zone faceoffs and eat up minutes on the penalty kill."

Canucks frontrunners to sign Jay Beagle, according to reports
They are right, sutter has to go at the TDL if we are bringing in a similar player. Otherwise, seems like a waste

I was really pulling for him like everyone else last year when he got the contract and the call up and I thought he was really good thc first 8-10 games or so but then he seemed to flatten out, at least to me. He just seemed to be filling a sweater and going through the motions after that. I guess I just thought he failed his big audition. If there was an injury I don't know about that slowed him down, then perhaps I'm wrong.

What the f*** is Benning doing. Can we please utilize the cap-space to gain assets? These contracts do nothing for the Canucks.

A valid point? And yet you feel the need to drop in - surprise surprise lol. Where does that put your comment on the usefulness scale? Throw in some more '......' while you are at it

Yeah - I have this inner compunction that compels me to frivolously comment on keyboard warriors posts calling them out for the bias of their arguments........

Not quite sure what it is as I haven't had it diagnosed..................

Overpaying **** players on long term contracts just because you have cap room is a sign of a **** GM.

Why are we giving them term? You really want 5 mil tied up in two 4th liners for at least 3 years?

Why not use the cap space to take on bad contracts with picks attached and/or sign someone good like De Haan?

Its just such a dumb way to spend cap space.

The Canucks should hire an old gypsy lady to sit on the bench and cast curses on anyone who manhandles The Youth. The psychological effect would be just as effective (if not more) then overpaying for a Dorsett replacement as a deterrent.

It's called the 'Nucklehead fever and it's sweeping the region.

I have had the condition myself for many years. We may disagree on particulars here, but we all have this affliction. You're among brotherly 'Nuckleheads here my friend ;)

Hahaha exactly.........I guess you haven't been paying attention but the majority of this board isn't happy unless they are unhappy and in a state of apoplexy.........

Thankfully our GM is extremely well versed in ensuring that they are in such a state.....

I agree with you on the "who the f*** cares"...........another part these posters revel in is making mountains out of molehills.....

We haven't even signed a single FA yet and you can see the meltdowns that are occurring.........WE have tons of cap space - people on this board really fail to grasp that to get anyone to come here we will have to grossly overpay. They complain about our roster then complain when Jimbo does pretty much anything to try to address our needs.........it's soo f***ing tiresome - bunch of whiny armchair beer league GM's who came in first place in their fantasy draft and are all of a sudden fully qualified to run an NHL franchise.

This board needs Xanax as a sponsor as we could sure use it.......

Calm the f*** down everyone - Geezus..........

Other teams are undoubtedly well aware of the fact that Mr Aquilini wants to get to the cap every year. Benning being in over his head in his role only adds to what is really a perfect storm scenario.

I'm amused that people are surprised.

Stupid people do stupid things, and Jimbo is a proven moron.

Hopefully more competitive teams pull away the scrubs management wants to limit their mistakes.

Like Ray Ferraro said, hide Jim's phone.

Wow! Signing both of these players would be a huge boon to our team.

Can you say PLAYOFFS?!?

Joking aside, the only benefit of signing these guys is that it ensures that we are another bottom feeder team in the upcoming season and we will have a shot at winning the Jack Hughes sweepstakes.

Contrary to the some of the opinions in here, Beagle is not a plug. He is one of the top face off guys in the league, excels at killing penalties, and can provide some C depth on a team that isnt exactly deep down the middle. Horvat will be freed up and can be put in a more offensive role, and Gaudette can be sheltered. He can either make Sutter redundant, or be flipped at a future trade deadline because he has proven that he can be a valuable contributor to a cup winning team.
