Here's Canucks Army's take on Beagle:

"Beagle was leaned on by the Stanley Cup-winning Capitals to win key face-offs, kill penalties and centre the 4th line. He provides coveted intangibles including grit, but the merit of Vancouver’s interest should be questioned given that they already have a similar pivot in Brandon Sutter."

Report: Canucks Are Front-Runners For Jay Beagle

Those advocating for this signing still haven't answered this objection. If you're in favour of this signing, how do you justify Beagle and Sutter on the same team? How do you expect a team that was so bad at scoring goals last season to be anything but worse with these two centring two lines?
Quite happy if the sign Beagle and trade Sutter...

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Unless Benning is opening himself up to potentially trading away Sutter during the next 12 months.

Sutter's $4,35 hit might be being used as a measuring stick in the Beagle negotiations. Sure Beagle may be older but he's probably the better checking center.

Beagle bidding war going on according to Dhaliwal. Price and term keeps going up and up. Beagle to Vancouver apparently not done.

...Benning is going to get into a bidding war for this old 4th liner isn't he?

Have anything to actually contribute?

Also I'm neither old nor miserable, no matter how emphatic I might be that Jim Benning is a moron.

Man, it's gonna be fun to see you drones bending over backwards over the next few months to justify the contracts this idiot gives out in the next few days.
Way I look at it...Benning is digging his own grave. At least the terms are 3 years so by then all this mess including Benning will be over.

Probably the Flames or something knowing that Benning is stubborn enough to vastly overpay these plugs.

Yes

imo he is too slow to play in the NHL. He started
Off adding a physical element to the team and by mid season it disappeared. If you are going to be slow and drag your linemates down then you better at least provide some physicality. Guy thinks he is a finesse player now lol

Archibald threw 80 hits in 27 games which projects to 240 over a full season, which would have led our team's forwards by nearly 100 hits. He was credited with hits at double the rate of noted physical player Derek Dorsett.

He also fit in seamlessly on a checking 3rd line getting the toughest zone starts in the NHL.

He also scored at a 27 point ES pace, which is absolutely exceptional for his role/usage.

He also was a regular on the PK where he generated positive results.

He's also dirt cheap at $650k and provides terrific value.

But who cares about any of that! His skating looks a bit funny and he didn't fight enough for you! So he's crap! And let's pay 5x as much for worse players that fight a few times!

If you think Darren Archibald didn't play well here last year, you don't understand hockey and your opinion here is irrelevant. Sorry.

ok, i am going with we will only sign one of these guys, beagle's agent overplayed his hand and canucks moved on to roussel, causing beagle's agent to start calling the canucks frantically and then call dhaliwal to see if he could get the word out. and meanwhile roussel's agent is overstating the term to dhaliwal.

i predict beagle for the original leaked deal.

but what do i know.

I think you’re underestimating how many other desperate GM’s have legitimate interest in both players. Especially with the cap increase .

Lol. Nice rant. My stance is I don’t want any UFAs in July. But nice try. Anyone that doesn’t think Archie is a legit NHLer is stupid and their opinion is irrelevant. Damn you are immature fella

Not if Tyler Motte played the same number of games.

How is that immature?

Anyone who thinks Darren Archibald wasn't an effective player here last year either didn't watch the games or didn't know what they were watching. Which is openly evident by your mocking of the physicality of the guy who was - by a mile - the most consistently physical player on the team last year.

And when people post garbage like that, I absolutely know the value of their opinion, and it isn't much.

I agree with you that Archibald isn't up to the mark NHL wise. I don't think it's a controversial idea at all. I guess time will tell.
