Seriously though, how do we fit any more players on our roster?
Boeser, Horvat, Baertschi? (top line?)
Granlund, Sutter, Eriksson (Green high priced shutdown line?)
Dahlen(?), Gagner(?) / Pettersson(?)
Leipsic(?), Beagle(?), Virtanen(?)

Not listed:
Gaunce, Dowd, Motte, Goldobin, Gaudette..? Likely gone - Jokinen? Archibald?

Something has to give, no?

What’s with all these Potential Canucks UFA rumours? Does management not understand there are limited roster spots?

If we keep blocking prospects from becoming NHL players they are going to start losing morale and will look elsewhere if an opportunity presents itself. Tryamkin was already with the big club and still complained about lack of ice time and opportunity. Goldobin will likely leave as well soon. You can only cook prospects on the farm for so long before they eventually burn.

Give our youngsters an opportunity to succeed! Play them!

Not a bad 4th liner, but do you agree with paying him 1.5m-2m on a multi-year deal for are rebuilding club?

The problem isn't the player, it's chasing the player when other needs are far more apparent.

I don't mind it, the bigger issue is guys like Granlund and Gagner who need to be spoon fed easy minutes to be effective, those minutes should be going to players with more upside.

Guys like Sutter, Roussel, Beagle, Gaunce, Eriksson should be able to handle checking roles without getting slaughtered, cap hits aside.

Ideally I'd like to have a couple of veteran lines that can handle penalty killing, d-zone starts and do the heavy lifting and free up Horvat, Boeser, Petersson, Baertschi, potentially 1 or 2 of Gaudette/Goldobin/Leipsic/Dahlen to soak up the o-zone starts and PP time.

Beagle is fine for a couple years. And 3 is what i expect given the state of this team and what Jay can command

Sets the tone all over the place. Good guy, great soldier, gym rat who shows that you can still improve late into your 20's and early 30's. He will be a good mentor and can play RW as well as C if Gaudette pushes in.

I accept that the bolded is true. You and other posters have made this point several times. But the list should continue: doesn't score, doesn't set up his teammates, strictly a defensive centre, can't be plugged in on a line with any wingers the Canucks want to develop as offensive players.

Beagle's not a bad player. He's a bad fit on the Canucks. That assessment could change if the Canucks move Sutter, but there's no hint of that happening. Sutter and Beagle, two centres who aren't playmakers, make no sense on the same team.

What other team has two such strictly defensive centres?

Time for a thread title change, I doubt any other team matches that offer for Roussel.
