Beagle is fine for a couple years. And 3 is what i expect given the state of this team and what Jay can command

Sets the tone all over the place. Good guy, great soldier, gym rat who shows that you can still improve late into your 20's and early 30's. He will be a good mentor and can play RW as well as C if Gaudette pushes in.

Obviously 2 yrs would be ideal but when you're a bottom feeder your at the agents mercy. i'm fully confident he is more useful than trash can Gagner who is absolute garbage for another 2yrs and basically looks like he's trying to avoid getting hit by a bus half the time. i do like that between him and Sutter they can eat the bulk of the defensive duties so Pettersson can get the Sedin treatment.

I also believe this means Gaudette will start in Utica barring injuries. Not all that terrible as so did Jake Guentzel for 30+ games before he went to the Pens and it's entirely likely someone will be injured before the season starts anyway.

11,12,13- Gaunce Leipsic Goldobin
14,15,16- Gaudette Dahlen Motte

Roussel is a fine player to replace Granlund with, but not add in addition to Granlund.

do they not understand the massive log jam we have.

I like Roussel...

Wow Roussel would likely jettison Gaunce or Granlund.

I like Roussel that guy is a pain in the ass to play against

From another forum:

Take it for nothing, (as I am) but I work with Cory conachers cousin. Who is apparently good friends with Travis Green. Green told Cory he wants Jim to sign Matthew Peca from Tampa. Let’s see how that plays out.

IF he signs rousell and beagle (depends on the contracts) while getting rid of gagner and granlund I’d be ok with it. But adding more bottom 6 fodder while keeping those guys and blocking younger players is just stupid

If the Canucks sign Roussel the contract will probably suck but at least it might make the team somewhat entertaining next season.

I like Roussel...

Not a bad 4th liner, but do you agree with paying him 1.5m-2m on a multi-year deal for are rebuilding club?

The problem isn't the player, it's chasing the player when other needs are far more apparent.

You're not at the agent's mercy when you don't chase the player.

4th liners shouldn't cost this much, especially to a team that is supposed to be rebuilding.

The more money Benning spends on bottom end forwards, the more pressure he puts on the younger players at the top to produce for the difference. In a way, he's moving towards getting the least bang for his buck, when good teams do the opposite.

Does management not understand there are limited roster spots? If we keep blocking prospects from becoming NHL players they are going to start losing morale and will look elsewhere if an opportunity presents itself. Tryamkin was already with the big club and still complained about lack of ice time and opportunity. Goldobin will likely leave as well soon. You can only cook prospects on the farm for so long before they eventually burn. Give our youngsters an opportunity to succeed! Play them!

I don't mind Beagle. Good penalty killer, and we need that. 3 years is a bit much but I don't mind bringing him in. Beagle is alot better a signing than Gagner. The logjam is an issue but Beagle isn't a guy who should be contributing to that. They can't move Eriksson but if they can figure out how to get rid of Gagner that would be a step.

Roussel is a good hockey player and a solid bottom-sixer...but he's more agitator than toughness. Reminds me of Matt Cooke - do we really need someone whose actions put bullseyes on the backs of our best players?

(Maybe he's toned it down in recent years, I'm not so sure, but just thinking out loud)

Brandon Sutter already does this.

This reads more like a signing to free up Sutter than it does to free up a young player.

Players with time left on their contracts don't retire.

Players have to be hurt to go on LTIR.

Like, you have noticed that Pittsburgh just had to give away Conor Sheary to get rid of a contract about this size, right?

Your paragraph above could literally be used to whitewash any bad signing, no matter how terrible it was. 'Oh, Eriksson isn't a big deal! He'll just end up on LTIR or something and if he doesn't the cap space doesn't matter anyway!' Ridiculous.

Meh. Everyone, including me and you, felt Dorsett was signed to too much term for the way he plays. We were all proven right. How much is that hurting us now?

As for freeing up Sutter, uh no. You need to have more than one option at center for own-zone faceoffs and for the PK. If Sutter just finishes a shift and it's a defensive zone faceoff, I don't want it to be Bo or Gagner or Gaunce nor Granlund being the next in line. You'd rather see Bo and Brock get those defensive zone assignments. That's fine, but I disagree with that.

It comes as no surprise to me that you consider an overpaid 4th liner on a longer than desired contract as "the right type of acquisition". Not to mention the fact that there is a distinct difference between the ability of Beagle and Malhotra, so that throws off that logic as well.

This signing is strange. There's no need for it. Gaudette as a 3/4C would have sufficed. But hey, I don't mind one bit that you're continuing to support sub-optimal moves under this regime.

Malhotra is better than Beagle? Ya no shit captain obvious. It's called a metaphor. Maybe @Jyrki21 can explain to you how they work.

If you can't see we need to get stiffer to play against in our own zone, well can't say I'm surprised. Having read your philosophy for putting a team together over the years has me constantly praying Edmonton or Calgary will give you a chance one day.
