I agree completely - Nylander didn't impress me at all last post season.........we have plenty of marshmellows on our team. I supposed if we could get him for Tanev straight up fine but that def. isn't going to happen.

Not sure Jimbo is shrewd enough to take advantage of situations like this though - would certainly be a good opportunity for us to take advantage of our cap space - just a tiny bit dubious on whether management can actually pull something like this off.....

Then you add Nylander and trade or waive the rest of the marshmallows. Because unlike Baertschi, Granlund, Goldobin, Eriksson, etc Nylander can actually score. And that is something we absolutely need.

But he had an "A"!

It's almost like letters are given out for different reason than being good on the ice.

Nick Kypreos speculating about a possible Tanev + for Nylander deal if Tavares signs in Toronto.

I'd be very happy for Tanev is that's the case. Still hate the Leafs though.

Nylander would be a nice addition to the team...depending on the + of course. It also makes a terrible blueline into a OMG AHL teams are icing better bluelines on opening day than that.

Too expensive. Benning either has an internal salary cap or he's trying to avoid another Eriksson.

Or most likely there is almost no amount of money to get a reasonably decent UFA in a weak UFA summer to sign with the worst team over the past 3 years. (reasonably decent...he's not going to be worth the money or term wherever he signs)

I mean I'm sure there is some money level that would do it but anything short of an absolutely massive overpayment isn't going to get it done. And I think it's so massive that not even Jim would offer such a contract.

How in the HELL is Bieksa getting calls from teams.

A strong case could be made him being the worse d-man in the entire NHL.

Same reason why Jack Johnson is gonna get a 5 year deal, a lot of teams still have no idea to evaluate defensemen.

No interest in Holden really- I get doing your checks on the defenceman market but unless I start seeing some bodies shipped out first any of those signings are just dumb. Maroon I'd be ok with on a max 3 year deal. Adds size and physicality plus some goal scoring- he'd be able to play up and down the lineup as needed.

But I thought no teams need to shed salary anymore thanks to Vegas. Huh, weird.

Yeah and teams dumping Orpik and Hunwick to clear cap space. Wait but I thought with the cap going that wouldn't be a possibility? That's what Linden said and he's never been wrong, right?

Judd Brackett could,,

Id rather not,,we really dont need anymore soft players on this team do we.but i was thinking that some teams that are going after big ticket UFAs ,some teams might have to move a contract,,,like above with Nylander,,,,so we could be in a postion of trades instead,,,Hey Canucks we need to clear some cap space,,,can you take this guy,,,so we can sign this guy,,,,
Could be interesting July 1st,,,

I wouldn't move next year's 1st round pick, but I would certainly add assets to Tanev to make a Nylander trade happen. It's not about soft players or gritty players, it's about adding a very good skilled player. That's something the Canucks tend to lack. Nylander would have been the Canucks leading scorer each of the last two seasons...I'd say that's something we could use.

At this point yeah you are right - we don't have much skill and pretty much anything would be an upgrade. I could live with Tanev and a second and another complimentary part I suppose. In 3 years though once we are in the mix for the playoffs mark my words this board will be tearing Nylander to shreds after he has 1 point in our 5 game playoff series loss. But yeah at this point he would be a massive upgrade to our skill level.......which isn't really saying a whole lot.......

Agreed. You add nylander to this young forward core and man we are gonna be a fun team to watch.

I don't really see a Tanev-Nylander deal...There's a disparity in age (which means that we would be adding a lot),and from a Canucks perspective it would be chucking Hughes and Juolevi into the deep end of the pool..I don't see it.

And the defensemen market gets ever slimmer with De Haan and a couple guys like Hamhuis remaining, but after that it gets pretty bad.

Definitely can see the trade market heating up in the next few days for defensemen.

We have to get to the playoffs first. Right now this is such an awful team I really think they're destined for 31st. It'll be a race between Vancouver, Detroit and Ottawa for last in the NHL.

Bringing in Nylander probably puts us 2 more elite forward prospects away from where I think this team needs to be. Right now we have Horvat and Boeser as top 6 locks. Pettersson is looking good, and Nylander would fit in there as well. I still think we need another elite 1C (hoping the 2019 draft will provide that), and we need help on the left side. Maybe Dahlen can fill that but we'll have to see how he does in the AHL this year before we can really determine that. He did look good in the Allsvenskan though.

Concurrently there needs to be a focus on building up the defense even more. The right side of our D is completely barren. Now that we have Quinn Hughes in the system, I truly believe he could be a top pairing puck moving defenseman for us. That shifts Juolevi down to the 2nd pairing where I think he would be better suited anyway (if he hits his potential).

It would sure be nice to have another 1st round pick for the 2019 draft.

I would take Nylander in a heartbeat. Love the way he plays.

nylander is insanely skilled and the mere fact the leafs have two other really good guys, should not obscure the fact he'd be considered the future on a lot of teams. no way are the leafs moving him for tanev and some minor pieces. if a deal like that was on the table you take it and run and sort out how to handle so much skinny skill later.

Juolevi is entering his Draft +3 season as a 5th overall pick. He shouldn't need to be babysat. This doesn't mean just throw him to the wolves and give him an anchor like Gudbranson who will probably ruin him, but he shouldn't need to be sheltered if he is worth that pick.

Hughes shouldn't be in the NHL this year. If he does go pro he should be in Utica unless he forces his way up, and if he does that then he too probably doesn't need someone like Tanev to babysit him.

Ya we definitely do. Tanev’s 28, Nylander’s 22. You gotta pay for that age difference.
I dunno, actually. Toronto is going to have trouble resigning all of their kids. Giving them fair value in trade here actually kinda helps them out in a few years.

The context to Kypreos's speculation was that Nylander would be expendable because the Leafs would need to cut salary.

Then there are 15 other teams that will “help them out” if Vancouver won’t. It’s not like any single team holds the hammer when a guy like Nylander is on the market.
