But isn’t that assuming that they love those guys as well?

The problem with a lot of fan-proposed scenarios is the belief that the team values a guy as much as the fan does.

If the Giants believe Barkley isn’t your typical highest rated RB, and that he’s a special player, than everything else kind of goes out the window.

Beyond Gettelman, there seems to be a consensus in the Giants war room that there was no one close to him. Whether that proves to be a triumph or a catostrophe remains to be seen.

But I think it’s skmething that really isn’t being taken into consideration. Right or wrong, the Giants are banking Barkley being a once in an era player. Not Just the best RB. Not just the BPA. But potentially a player who defines his position for a generation.

It was going to take a hell of an offer to make them pass on that. And that offer apparently wasn’t there.

The Giants reportedly loved Chubb and Nelson along with Barkley so I'm not pulling those names out of a hat. The Giants feel Barkley is going to be special but that can be said with any team making a draft pick. The team still has a lot of holes, passed on 3 potential franchise QB's they had their choice of with the option to add more picks to gain additional assets if they traded down in order to take a RB in a deep RB class. He needs to be an once in an era player now. I would of said the same whether they took Chubb or Nelson at #2.

Edit: Being reported the Broncos never called about the #2 pick so I'm wrong about that scenerio being available. If the Giants wanted to ensure they got one of Barkley, Chubb, or Nelson, they had no choice but to remain at 2. Still not sold it's the right move to not take a QB OR trade back but it can't be changed now and I'm going to root for Barkley to live up to his hype.

Reallyyyy hoping we get Hernandez at 34. He is 1st round talent. Can slot in right now. Makes us deeper with or without Flowers. Reduces any leverage Flowers thought he had (which is less than zero) for not showing up to camp.

Hernandez Time

Solidify the Offense and lets go to war.

Something I can't stop thinking about.. is how much more valuable the Colts pick would have been with Darnold still on the board had the Jets not made the trade weeks out?

In hindsight now Macagnan made a hell of a deal as opposed to having to pay even more of a premium than he did/probably been outbid

We got the best player in the draft. No one should doubt that. That’s a win boys.

Grab Hernandez next give Eli a chance behind a competent line with a great RB to compliment him. He’s obviously 37 years old but he’s far from done. But he was never Aaron Rodgers. He always needed talent around him. He’s Never thrown all that well but he knows how to win and step up in big spots.

With Engram Beckham Shepard and Barkley he’s got a hell of an arsenal. Needs an offensive line which he hasn’t had in years.

He's been done for two years.

We have to hope that OBJ, Barkley, and Engram can carry his corpse to the playoffs like OBJ did in 2016. We saw what he is when he can't be carried (due to injuries or his own ineptitude).

Make no mistake. Eli is done as a good player. What we can hope for, at his current peak, is mere competency. We are now requiring the rest of the team to do any and all heavy lifting.

Yeah, Mac did really well to make the deal when he did. If he waited until last night you probably could have changed one of the seconds into a first.

We are now entering Weekend at Bernie's football where we need OBJ, Engram, and Barkley to carry Eli's corpse across the line into the playoffs.

Made this this morning.

It’s amazing. In one 30-minute span, Dorsey managed to rob me of any interest in following the team I’ve loved, and suffered with, for 30+ years.

Trying to decide whether to just focus on the Jets who’ve always been my close second favorite team, or just give up on football period due to the whole CTE issue...

(Note I say this the morning after, after sleeping on it.)

Much like his brother, you hope he can manage the game. I don’t buy the ‘Giants can be awesome again because of Barkley’ narrative. This was a short term move. I need to see more of Webb. Maybe he salvages this and shows he can be the answer at QB going forward. I remain skeptical.

Nah, man. Keep trucking. Zero reason to just give up before you know if the picks were actually bad or not. You guys have a legitimate starting QB in Taylor right now. If Mayfield outplays him and wins the starting job, it's arguably already a good pick.

I cannot imagine being a Browns fan this morning. You just had all of your hopes and dreams brutally ripped out of you in a matter of 30 minutes.

They overhype every class every year. I'm not worried about the barkley pick.

If there was an Andrew Luck type available, I'd understand, but none of these guys are close to that.

Call me crazy, but I like Lamar Jackson's ceiling more than any of them.

You guys have to realize that no one is mad that Saquon Barkley is a New York Football Giant. That is tops. Everyone is happy about that.

People are mad upset because current football economics dictate that you can't take an RB that high in the draft. So there's not going to be any crow to eat in three years where Saquon is beasting it the f*** up. We all know that's going to happen.

The issue is that Saquon, without ever taking a rep on an NFL team, is already estimated to be a top-10 paid RB in the league because he was taken 2OA. This, versus a guy like Darnold, whose cap hit will slide somewhere roughly in between Chase Daniel and Teddy Bridgewater, roughly 31st highest in the league. For a starting QB. For five years.

There's a cap, just like hockey. You need to maximize results vs pay. Football does not value RBs like they used to. Not in terms of on the field performance, per se, but in terms of money in their pockets. There's a reason why the contract ranking of Saquon vs Darnold is as large as it is. RBs don't get paid anymore, and the Giants, out of where he was drafted, will be paying Saquon.

Word, I love Saquon as a prospect. If we traded down to 4-6 and nabbed him, I wouldn't be remotely upset.

We wasted draft capital and economic capital and just completely ignored positional value. It was stupid. It was poor.

And it's coming out now that Gettleman didn't even take trade calls, allegedly. So he was deadset on this pick.

He better be f***ing right.

Saquan has either the most or second most guaranteed money of any RB in the league. Before he's ever played a down. And this is all while we are paying Eli Manning $25M a year for f*** all.
