If Eli is as bad as everyone here believes, and Webb isn’t the QB of the future, then the Giants will be right back at the podium early again next year.

Which is to say nothing about the possibility of Beckham being moved if everything goes to hell in a hand basket.

Apparently next year's QB crop is pretty poor.

Ecstatic with Barkley pick. I love it.

Would be interested in trading up for either of Jackson or Hernandez to ensure you come away with another talent at a position you want to add to

And maybe that’s the risk if Davis isn’t the guy some think he is, or if the concerns about the QBs in this draft prove to be unfounded.

But I’m not sure I take that as being a given. At least not to the extent that some do.

Giant fans have been pretty damn lucky. We’ve had a decade of Phil Simms and a almost 15 years of Eli. Not having a quality QB in this league is not a pretty place.

I would have been content to trade down and take Nelson and get additional picks.

Assuming that was an option, or that Nelson is going to be worth the price of passing on a guy who might be the most unique RB in a generation.

I’m just not sure I take those as givens.

Well let’s even assume that’s a given, I’m still not sure the Giants take one of “top” QBs this year, or that those guys are the answer either for that matter.

I’m not convinced it was Barkley or a QB. It very well could have been Barkley or Chubb/ Barkley or Nelson.

So that would put us right back in the same QB conundrum next year anyway.

Chris Snee was a building block on the the O line for almost a decade. The odds of Barkley lasting that long are not in his favor.

Do you think NE takes Jackson at 31 though?
Yea I do think so. I think they want a guy to stand under Brady. Whether he becomes the replacement or simply trade value later on, i think they take him. Insurance. I was more interested in trading to get the 28th or 29th pick to guarantee Hernandez

You could be right. But I’d say the odds are really no worse than the odds Nelson becoming Snee through most of the 2020s.

And I’ll assume that a lot of people have now moved off the Davis Webb train, despite having no more or no less information to go on than they did during the last weeks of the season.

Until I see evidence to the contrary, I have nothing to base any hope on Webb being Eli’s successor.

Hernandez and Solder would really help the team.

If the Giants truly didn't love any of the QB's this year, then you try and pick up additional picks to a team that wants to trade up for Darnold like the Broncos reportedly were. That leaves you at 5 with two of these three still on the board : Barkley, Chubb, and Nelson. It shouldn't of been Barkley or QB, it should've been QB or a trade down where you could still get one of the top non-QB prospects on the draft board.

Which is fair.

In some ways, I can’t say that I feel convinced any of the QBs in the board were going to be his successor either.

So with that said, it really comes down to whether I think the Giants were better off taking Barkley or Chubb at 2, or trading down and landing Nelson —assuming it was an option.

I think that’s what Gettelman means when he talks about getting too cute, though his elegance in making the statement leaves a lot to be desired. The end result of passing on a player you particuarly covet, to nab a player you like but don’t necessarily love, with the hope that the guy you loved would still be on the board, and his selection fitting with the more conventional assessments of when to take said player.

But isn’t that assuming that they love those guys as well?

The problem with a lot of fan-proposed scenarios is the belief that the team values a guy as much as the fan does.

If the Giants believe Barkley isn’t your typical highest rated RB, and that he’s a special player, than everything else kind of goes out the window.

Beyond Gettelman, there seems to be a consensus in the Giants war room that there was no one close to him. Whether that proves to be a triumph or a catostrophe remains to be seen.

But I think it’s skmething that really isn’t being taken into consideration. Right or wrong, the Giants are banking Barkley being a once in an era player. Not Just the best RB. Not just the BPA. But potentially a player who defines his position for a generation.

It was going to take a hell of an offer to make them pass on that. And that offer apparently wasn’t there.

So 1st round is done. Whom do the Giants take with #34? I've heard rumblings about Hernandez, though I don't know much about him. Anyone have any insight?

I don't watch Baltimore that much, but is Joe Flacco playing that bad? He must be a happy dude right now, lol

Take Rudolph at 34 and I sleep easier (not tonight of course) with the Barkley pick.

I think a lot of people are sleeping on him. I know a lot of people don't like Big 12 QB's, but I think he's going to be a really solid starter in the NFL.

There are some good players to get tomorrow. They could go Rudolph, or shore up the Offensive Line with someone like Will Hernandez or James Daniels.

If you are reading Gettleman's quote you know they will not draft a QB in this draft, they will ride with Eli and Webb and reevaluate next year. You drafted a RB at 2, give him some space to run at least.
