My biggest issue with the Giants taking Barkley is if they have another crap year with a further declining Eli... then What? At least with Rosen or Darnold you have one year of his development and you have a clear direction and something to build around heading into 2019.

Incredibly short term thinking.

Another crap year then you take someone like Drew Lock

Personally, I think Barkley is arguably the most impressive and unique RB I’ve seen in a decade. I don’t know if I buy into the belief that he’s there if the Giants trade down. And one thing is certainly clear, the Giants LOVED this guy.

Eli aside, I don’t think they loved the “top” QBs in this draft. The wildcard is how they view Webb, which is something that isn’t getting a lot of chatter on here.

We’re focused on Eli, we’re focused on hypothetical trade down scenarios, but there is one thing we know and one thing we don’t know.

We know they thought Barkley was the best player in the draft and it wasn’t really close for them.

We don’t know if they think Webb is their QB of the future.

Now it’s up to them to prove they were right about the first point and we’ll see what the answer is to the second point.

The impact is that those teams haven’t won anything thanks to average QBs.

In the end, hind sight is going to be 20/20. From what I heard, most analysts didnt rate any of these Qb's as high as some guys in previous years. We got arguably the most purely talented guy in the draft. I'm ok with it. Can't judge a pick 2 minutes after its done.

If Eli is as shitty as most people think, I dont see us picking much lower next year.

Take a look at the impact high end running backs have had in the last few years. Fournette. Elliot. Gurley.

The narrative changed when a bad crop of running backs came through the first round and then nobody put a "premium" on the position anymore. But that doesnt mean you cant take a guy that high. It just needs to be the right guy, which I think Barkley is.

None of the analysts loved these QB's. They all had red flags - but analysts know they go first, so they have to find the good in them, and sell fans on why they "could" be the guy. Fans of bad teams stick around because these guys get hyped up for weeks on end. "This is our year. We get the guy that can change our franchise". Three years later, they're a career backup like Sanchez, Geno, Bradford, etc.

Give the kid a few days before you start ripping the pick.

As Jonathan pointed out, you’re paying a premium price for a position that doesn’t hold that kind of value in the cap era.

If we suck, then we get another shot in the top 5 to take our QB.

A rookie QB is much better suited handing of to Barkley compared to Jonathan Stewart.

I can’t say I disagree, but I also can’t recall a RB who caught my eye like Barkley either. At least not in a very long time.

The specter of Webb would be a lot clearer if they didn’t f*** up looking at him last year. I have no confidence in Gettelman after watching what’s taken place.

This team has to re-sign both Beckham and Collins, with Eli still on the books. Paying a premium price for a running back doesn’t help any of that.

Yeah, I read that article too. I still think you're getting a high impact from a guy thats not going to make a ton money. The best running backs make under 10 mil - its not exactly the end of the world.

Eli is going to look a lot better throwing 3rd and short because Barkley gained 8 yards on downs 1 & 2.

But Barkley makes them a Super Bowl contender so I’ve heard.

I can’t disagree with that either.

But that’s not on Gettelman.

I now know Pete Prisco of NFL.com is a complete idiot. Gave the Jets a C and bitched they didn't take Allen. Proclaimed Allen the best QB in the draft and said he didn't understand why the Jets didn't take him. Guess he hasn't heard literally anyone elses opinions on the draft or watched either guy play.
