Reading that thread on the main board Stanley Cup Playoff thread and the Sharks performance over the last ten years is interesting.

Maybe after another ten years of not getting it done the NHL can give them a lifetime achievement award.

Now that SJ is choked out, I’m looking forward to enjoying the final. I expect a long series with a lot of good hockey. I don’t follow any sports other than hockey, so as a Kings fan I have no reason to hate the Bruins. As an LA guy, I get the Boston hate, but it’s not something I can muster up for the Bruins.

I think the Bruins are the better team and will win in six games, maybe even 5. StL has the best player in Tarasenko, but Pasternak isn’t that far behind him at this point. I think the Blues D is overrated other than Parayko and Vince Dunn. Pietroangelo, Bouwmeester and Bortuzzo are like an off brand Doughty, Mitchell, and Greene. And I think the StL goalie isn’t some hidden jewel and just benefits from the blues defensive structure, unlike jake Allen, who sucks. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Binnington get pulled. Plus I can see Backes going after Schenn and pummeling him.

In the end, eff the Blues for 1998. If they win, who cares, took them long enough. If they lose, good, screw Geoff Courtnall, long live OD, never forget.

Give me the Blues in 6. They dominate along the wall like no other team in this playoff and are a heavier team than the Bruins who haven't faced a club that plays this style like the Blues thus far in the playoffs.

I actually think it's not an ideal matchup for the B's. They would have been better suited against the Sharks, potential injuries aside.

Blues need Dunn back but, I still like them. They have been on a heater since early January and there is no reason for me to think it is going to suddenly stop.

Blue split the first two games in Beantown.

If the Bruins wouldn't have almost a week and a half by the time the pucks drops in Game 1, I would have picked them. As (either TSN or Sportsnet) pointed out, teams that are off 8 days or more don't fare well in the finals. B's will have been off for 11 days on the 27th. That's too long. And esp since Raask got hot in the 2nd round forward He was the main reason the won the last round. That's a long time between starts.

I think rust will have a big effect, and if the Blues can capitalize on that, they should win in 6, maybe 5.

I know of a team that had a pretty long break in 2012 before going into the final....

From The Athletic article "DGB Grab Bag: Stanley Cup preview, schedule complaints and the Blues pull off a Monday Night Miracle."

Road to the final
Blues: Their conference final win left all of the Sharks’ biggest fans feeling devasted and fighting back tears, although word is the referees should be OK in time for the final.

Ha ha.

I had forgotten that DT is an executive with the Blues. Even more reason to root for the Blues. It was mostly rough for DT as Kings GM and it was certainly the right time for the Kings to make a change, but there are no banners hanging from the rafters without the 2005 draft. Would be cool to see DT get a ring.

shorter than this one and the Kings almost lost the first two (2-1 OT) and got blown out in game 3, and lost game 4. They were rusty. Kings were the better team, and should have won without that much drama.
Bruins and Blues is a much closer series.

If you're talking about Game 3 in 2012, I was at that game and the Kings blew out the Devils to go up 3-0 in that series.

Kings won game 3 that year, the were up 3-0 in the series. Then they lost games 4 and 5.

I'll take Bruins in 5 as well. Nobody can stop what's going on in Boston sports right now. Bruins have too much all round, they're rested, ready and experienced.
