Lifelong St. Louis resident and Blues fan. Favorite players those first years were the Plagers and Al Arbor. I wore glasses at a young age, and seeing him wearing glasses made it cool. Played at the old rinks growing up in North County, Dellwood, Florissant, Cahokia, Alton, etc. Played until 50 when they said if I was too beat up to get repaired anymore, so I had to stop and take up golf. Thank God for dental implants!

I hear you! I developed osteoporosis and I also have arthritis. My doctors all said no more hockey. :( I only played occasionally as an adult anyway, but sometimes I long to put on the skates.

My father bought me my own Motorola transistor radio which I'd listen to Blues games intently at night. This was the radio, which is probably kicking around in my folks basement this day, I'll have to go look sometime.

xp7ce_2260458.jpg

I have vivid memories of yelling down scores to my father in the basement who was always fixing something. We didn't have a lot of money, so I didn't get to attend but one or two games a year. We'd get special deals with either the Cub Scouts or Indian Guides where we'd go and watch a SLU game and then stay for a Blues game. It always seem to line up with stick day, so we'd get a Sherwood stick to take home and immediately break playing on the street. Dad would take me up to the hardware store where I'd get a Super Blade (I doubt they are still around) which was a nylon replacement end that you mashed onto your stick and drove a screw through it to hold it on there. Then, we'd carefully hold that stick over the stove to heat it up and put a curve on it that would embarrass a banana. We'd have those red plastic pucks on the street to play with when we didn't have ice. We'd fill them with unpopped popcorn and tape them with black electrical tape to hold them together. Sometimes the street hockey games were more fun than the organized games, and the yelling of "CAR!!!" and dragging the goals out of the way was a time honored tradition. We'd play either on foot, or for the lucky ones, roller skates with steel wheels that with practice, you could do hockey stops with.

Thinking about this brings a lot of good memories flooding back.

What do you know...they still make them Cooper SUPERBLADE™ Street Hockey Repl. Blade

Neat thread. Name is David Brown, I'm from South East Missouri. Been a Blues fan since 95. My uncle is from Stl and got me into hockey and the Blues. I've been somewhat low key with this run. The emotions/stress is a wonderful feeling that I still sometimes question as reality. Trying not to get too high or too low.

Hey guys, Chet Manly here. Lurked for YEARS, decided to join the conversation back in September... I honestly thought I was jinxing the team for the first 4 months. Some of you may have seen me in the main boards. I was a member of Game Time for years as well (fred, your videos still pop up in my youtube feed)

Born and raised about 15 minutes from downtown STL. It all started with the Arena. Then McDonald's put out a Brett Hull comic book series, and I was hooked.

Had this folder for like 6 years...

I think the best way to break the ice is with a joke:

What's the difference between 'jelly' and 'jam'?

Give up? You can't jelly your d*** into someone's butt.

Thank you. Thank you.

Hey guys, this is OSA....my real life name is Trevor.

I’m from Burlington, Ontario

I’d say I always had an interest in the Blues. As a kid in the mid 80’s I collected hockey stickers and had an album for them. I’ll always remember how drawn I was to the Blue note because of how unusual it was. Other than the Oiler section (because of Gretzky), I spent most of my time pouring over the Blues section.

I still supported the Leafs in the 90’s but I eventually could no longer stand their excessive corporate gouging and decided to defect completely to the Blues in the early 2000’s.

Also in the early 2000’s I became an avid OHL fan. I consider myself very fortunate as a hockey fan to live where I do; I’ve been able to see many, many great players over the past (almost) 20 years (the pinnacle being game 7 of the OHL finals in 2011, won by Owen Sound, in OT, with Jordan Binnington in net). The OHL guys on the Blues are some of my favourites of all time. That layer of connection added to a Blues franchise that I really love and support has made this Stanley Cup run such an incredibly enjoyable experience for me.

Lastly, I will say that, while I don’t post a lot myself, I do read just about everything. There are some incredibly astute and passionate posters here. Thanks for making this a great place to hang out, even for us more quiet types.

I'm here, I'm here. From Alton, Ill watched Blues since I can remember (prob 92/93 at earliest) on ol KPLR. Man, I wish Ken Wilson was calling these next games, but I'm ecstatic to be here regardless. I've taken some of this break off from hockey talk because this has been a stressful postseason, but ready to get right back on Monday. Hopefully this team is ready as well.

Our two year window was 13-14 and 14-15, per Buffalo fans.
6-2 in playoff series after the window closed.

Parayko was how I consoled myself with 2015 exit. I'd been driving the Parayko-will-be-a-homegrown-#1D bus for a year by then, pretty much a few months after I left. My playoff talisman is now the Parayko winter classic jersey stained with deer blood from in between periods 2 & 3 of Sharks G2 when I fought with all of my being to prevent my 65 pound border collie from killing a deer trapped inside our fence. I barely succeeded. This took the entire 17 minute intermission and I watched the third in a daze. I took it off for G3 because come on it had deer blood on it. Back on for G4, G5, G6. Unwashed.

The most fortunate sequence was signing Bozak before the ROR deal went through. They need them both & I don't think they sign Bozak if the ROR deal happens first.

Perron is just the best. One of my all time favorites. A difference maker in the Western Conference Finals against Joe. If he lifts the Cup in a Blues uniform, holy ****.

I am deeply saddened you couldn't have gotten amused at the ROR "Locker Room Cancer" crap we heard from Buffalo fans in the first half of the year. Ooh boy that was a time.

And I am hoping upon hope Thornton retires so we can laugh forever that Thornton's last series was against the Blues with his team and fan base whining about us making head shots that were not even a tenth as bad as the one Thornton did to Perron. If Perron gets a cup that same year with this team there would be such a great deal of justice in my head

That is so cool! I lived in neighboring Oakville On when I was a kid. (Left in 1975 when I was 13). My dad would take my brothers and I to the old Oakville Arena to watch the Oakville Oaks OHL team. Btw, I really enjoy and appreciate your Junior Hockey updates!

Grew up primarily in South City and been a live and die Blues fan since going to my first game in the 92-93 season at the age of 5 against none other than the Hawks. Back when Blockbuster Video and VHS tapes were a thing, me and the old man would go to rent movies once a month and I was allowed to pick out one tape, which for the better part of a year was the 'True Blues' documentary, made after the franchise's 20th anniversary. Finally my dad decided to just keep the tape and pay Blockbuster a fee for lost or stolen merchandise. Grew up playing at AAA (Affton Athletic Association) and in our basement with my brother, cousins and friends pretending to be our favorite Blues players. At one point we made a Stanley Cup out of various sized plastic kitchen bowls wrapped in aluminum foil and would take laps in the basement passing the makeshift chalice back and forth.

Shout out to @EastonBlues22 for this thread, it's awesome getting to get to know a little about everyone and their Blues origin stories. It's been such a long road to get to this point just to see this team have a shot at hoisting the Cup. If we manage to complete the journey, the fact we've had to endure so much heartbreak will make it all the more sweeter of an experience.

At the risk of sounding corny, I'll quote the great Steve Miller
-"You know you got to go through hell before you get to heaven."

I've been lurking these boards for about 4 or 5 years. I don't really much to say but I enjoy reading what others do. Finally, made an account this year to play fantasy hockey with others on the board. Even though not much happened in the fantasy hockey league in terms of trades, I had a lot of fun with it.
I still can't believe the blues have a chance to win the cup this year after everything that has happened.
Can't wait for Monday to get here.

My name is Chris. This is by far the weirdest hockey season I’ve seen unfold. I truthfully think the Blues were a week or two away from making a big shakeup trade.

I’ve liked hockey since around the age of 5 (1980). Televised games were very rare but I’d watch some games on an old black & white tv on a cart with wheels, with broken knobs. Channel locks were how the channels were changed. I didn’t keep up with hockey stats or follow the players careers until I was around 12 or 13 when we got cable tv.

My first live hockey game was when I was around 10. My Dad got free tickets through his job. My Dad, cousin, brother, and myself sat in the 4th row and none of us had ever been to a hockey game. I remember more about the atmosphere than what happened in the actual game. It seemed like every guy around us was wearing ties, drinking a ton, and yelling at the refs. It was a lot different from the atmosphere at games now. I don’t remember any women or kids there.

I moved and made new friends at the age of 13. They were definitely into hockey and some played. I never tried to play. I didn’t ice skate until I was 18 or 19. Baseball was my passion and the only real sport I played. There was more games on cable tv by this time but far from 82 a year. I was really hooked around this time ‘88, ‘89. I had and played Blades of Steel but it didn’t capture the sense of hockey to me. The first hockey game I ever played and really liked a lot was ‘93 hockey. This was followed by my all time favorite hockey game ‘94 Hockey, on Sega. Sega later released ‘95 Hockey and completely ruined the game for me because of the skating.

Like a lot of Blues fans I’ve had the disappointment of watching them get bounced every year in the playoffs. When this Blues team was assembled in the offseason I felt it was the deepest Blues roster I had ever seen but I really didn’t think they had enough high end skill to reach the finals. I’m glad to eat crow on my thoughts.

I still don’t know really how to feel because this is something I’ve never experienced. Nobody knows how the finals will turn out, especially the so called “experts” who have a ridiculously bad track record. However the finals go it feels like a win for this Blues fan. I hope the Blues finish this crazy season with one more series win. I don’t doubt this Blues team can play with any team in the league but I have no predictions. I’ll simply enjoy the games and will be at at least one home game. I’d probably rather be at a game 6 than 3 or 4. I’ll be waiting until after the first 2 games before buying any tickets.

It is really nice to see the team getting so much love from around the city.

Let’s Go Blues!!

Wasn't it reported by Rutherford or somebody similar that they basically had a move almost locked in to send Schenn to Boston, or am I imagining that? I could have sworn I've heard that.
