do we know the D pairings for Friday? Did Rasanen make the cut????

edit: On a side I would take out Marleau WAY before I take out Nylander

I've got no insider info but expect a lineup to feature players who were with the team most of the season to start the playoffs.

One late team addition who might play is Kristians Rubins who Keefe has dressed for 15 of 17 starts since joining the team in March.

Probably not a good sign for his ELC?

Not really sure. Besides Rasanen and Bouthillier, everyone else on the roster had AHL or NHL deals. Well technically Sestito is still on a PTO but he's been here for like 4 months now... I doubt it's considered a tryout anymore.

The Marlies have like 30 players on their roster right now. I am surprised that many guys are on their playoff roster TBH... Especially since McGregor is better than many of them.

EDIT: For reference, Trey Bradley is also not on the roster, and he was signed to an AHL deal. Brazeau is not on the roster despite getting a two-year AHL deal, but that is somewhat understandable. Ryan Moore IS on the roster despite not playing a game for the Marlies this year. Who really knows what is up, but I wouldn't look into it that much. I think McGregor has a pretty good shot.

Wonder how soon Hollowell will get a game.

With the shear number of RD the Marlies have, he may not get into any games. I would think LoVerde and Liljegren are locks. Then he has to compete with Rasanen, Oleksy, Corrado, Subban, and Duszak for ice time on the 3rd pairing.

Dzone starts on their own aren't necessarily a good indicator. Polak's were often inflated because he couldn't move the puck out of his zone without icing it, leading 1 intentional dzone start turning into 2 or 3 off the sustained pressure.

Put a less defensive puckover in the same situation and you get a defensive zone start and 1 or 2 offensive zone starts after the breakout, all of a sudden you can say the puck mover is being "sheltered" with >50% ozone starts.

That's not to say we don't need people capable of doing the heavy lifting defensively, just that the guys we have who do that now make more problems for themselves than they need to.

I’ve recently learned that typical zone start stats don’t include face offs where the player was on the ice in the previous play. So if Polak iced it over and over it doesn’t pad his DZS%.

I think Brazeau is still recovering from his injury but yea looks like Basso, Bradley, and Brown were released from their ATO's on the 16th according to AHL.com

Ryan Moore got in that last game against Lake Erie, he is Nathan Gerbe small.

Barring injuries, Rasmus Sandin is in the opening day lineup for the Toronto Maple Leafs next season. I feel like we have found the ideal fit for Travis Dermott on the third pair next year.

He’s making a case.
He and Lili are pushing the needle.
And will have the summer to train and prep.
I’ve figured both would start in the A, but who knows?
Rosen’s done his time, and the team likes him.
There’s still Muzzin and Reilly on the L side, and TD.
Wonder if there'll a trade of strength to fill a weakness?
What kinda RD does a Kadri/TD package gotcha? Johnson/TD?

I'm really f***ing pissed my AHL subscription didn't include the playoffs (I bought the Marlies home and away) and I'm not going to spend another $40CDN to watch the Marlies

Really upset I can't watch. I know Sandin got 3a but how was his overall play?

Travis Dermott? He better not be getting thrown into any trades.
Well, I don’t wanna see him move either really.
But, if Sandin is ready, there’s five strong LD.
Reilly is going nowhere. Muzzin is playing beastly (though I’ve previously wondered if he’ll be available in the off-season). Rosen is ready, dirt cheap the next two years and a management darling. Dermott is solid but nearing bigger bucks. And Sandin’s untouchable.
Something in there might have to give.
