Kings roster is pretty set, don't see any of these kids pressing unless the Kings put someone on waivers.

Are Amadio and Brodzinski waiver eligible?

Brown-Kopitar-Kovy
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Iafallo-Kempe-Lewis
Clifford-Thompson-Brodzinski
extra: Amadio

Kings will likely keep 2 extra D. MacD and Fattenberg.

Amadio is exempt.

Brodzinski, MacDermid, and Fantenberg are not.

Cap Friendly tracks that information for every team if you want to look other players up. There's a green icon that indicates the ones who are waiver exempt and if you click on it you get further information about how much longer they are exempt.

I wouldn't lose sleep over losing Brodz, MacD, or Fant. None of those guys are good enough to justify sending a superior player down for.

Best news in that article is regarding Matt Johnson. Really hope he's on the road to recovery and it is just fantastic if the Kings are a huge part of helping him get there.

The Athletic had more quotes from Blake regarding Vilardi. Paraphrasing, the injury is on Vilardi as he needs to put the work in every day to be healthy but it is hard to get a 19 year old to understand that. Says he will have to do more than others in regards to prep/maintenance to be able to play. So that sounds promising.

I wouldn't mind Vilardi going back to Juniors, but it completely ruins the whole "going all in" plan
This is a case where I hate the rules. He has nothing left to prove in juniors And being in Ontario would have him closer with the teams training staff to get him into the routine they want going forward if he showed he wasn't ready to be in the NHL.

Rumor was he was passed over because of skating issues....maybe it was really due to health concerns with his back and the staff didn't do its due diligence looking into those concerns? Hope I'm wrong but I'm not too excited for him if he's constantly going to be out due to back issues.

Is there a way he can stay up with the team while being on IR and then be sent to his junior team once he's healed or would that 1. burn a year off his ELC? 2. still eat up a roster spot that could go to someone else?

Brodzy has a one way salary this season. It's his spot to lose. Don't think the Kings risk him to waivers or pay him 650K to play in the AHL. Amadio will make this club. Both have nothing to prove at the lower level. MacD and Fantenberg will be exposed if Brickley is the real deal. Brickley and LaDue make the squad.

I think it's a straight 10 games played to burn the year So if he's injured it won't burn the time

I feel like the only thing against him at the draft was skating and injuries with the skating being overblown.

With his talent, I never thought he fell as far as he did because of skating concerns. It was always the injuries. This board wanted to believe it was just because GMs are dumb and too enamored with skating in the "new" NHL so he slipped like Kopitar did with the Slovenian factor. Hell, I wanted to believe it was just fluke stuff like what Justin Williams went through but not being able to do everything at the combine was a real red flag for me since he was coming off a supposedly healthy Memorial Cup. He skipped the lower-body portion of fitness testing due to soreness in his right hip and back.

You still swing for the home run at 11, but it makes sense that teams passed with higher picks as his injury history was concerning and an 18 year old having to skip combine testing due to hip/back issues is unusual. The league may be more about skating, but teams aren't just looking to draft Apollo Ohno with every pick. Joe Thornton is a relic but still puts up points. A kid with as much skill as Vilardi doesn't drop due to skating concerns unless his skating is horrible, which it is not. You don't get ranked Top 4 if you can't skate at all.

As a matter of fact, read these blurbs from scouts heading into the draft. There are actually several compliments for his skating.

Nation Network 2017 Prospect Profile: #4 – Gabriel Vilardi

I'm sure Vilardi has been zapped with everything to get a good picture of what's going on. Inflammation and damage is really easy to see so the day to day thing is encouraging. He's just going to have to add extra work to strengthen the area and be diligent with it. Back sprains can take several months to heal, even with good treatment it will always seem that progress is slow (and it usually is).

We haven't heard "disc" with Vilardi, which was what Barney and Daze had to deal with. That's when the worry should kick in.

I'd say there's plenty to be concerned about with Villardi since the Kings keep saying "he's fine" Until the day approaches that he has to get on the ice and then it's "nope, 'day to day'". The Kamploops thing, the rookie tourney, next up training camp. Doesn't seem good.

Vilardi's back flaring up is troubling, but hopefully he puts in the work to rehab it properly.

Considering he was able to play half a season after recovering, there is still plenty to hope for long term.
