I don't think the third line works well at all. 2/3 of the season showed that. Iafallo isn't ready for the top 6 and Vilardi has yet to play a NHL game. I don't think he's ready for top 6 either.

Iafallo - Kempe - Vilardi
Has decent speed and a puck hound. I am admittedly nervous at the inexperience.

It was Kempe's 1st full season and a transition for LW to C on the fly. He actually did pretty good for not much experience. That 3rd line also played against some good competition on the 2nd line last year and imagine how much better they can be playing against worse players.

Iafallo played well for his 1st season in Pro hockey. Not 1st line good where he was positioned, but not that bad. Giving him again lesser competition and more time to get used to things and he'll be good.

Vilardi is an unknown at this point and will need a veteran mentor to help him along the way. A little dangerous to put him on the Top line with Kopitar right away (see Iafallo). And a bad decision to put him in a bottom 6 role with no veteran guidance.

Running Iafallo--Kempe--Vilardi would be a huge mistake! They would be stuck in their end the whole game. Meaning less mins overall and worsening their development.

Why, he didn't suck. 20/ 35 and was a plus 26 in his 1 year in LA.

The last couple of years you can see him starting to break down. He has played a heavy game and it's taken its toll. Plus, he still has 5 more years on that contract. 5 more!!!!

P.s. the Kings are changing to a different style of play and Lucic doesnt fit that style!

I don't think we will ever see Votnov in a Kings jersey again. He is a great talent and fills a hole in our organization but I don't know if we would take on the PR nightmare.

In my mind he has paid his dues, he is still with his wife, and he should be allowed back but there are many others on the opposite side of the fence that are far more vocalized.
There is no pr nightmare with Voynov. Trump is president. Voynov is a spec on an anthill in Asia.

All this talk about not wanting Voynov back makes me laugh. While I thought what he did a crappy thing, I think he’s been punished enough. Lost almost a full year. As to whether the Kings fans would want him back - do I have to remind you who our GM is? When DL brought him back, I thought this place was going to have a meltdown. A few years later, I hear zilch about getting rich of Blake.

Bring Slava back as long as the locker room is ok with it.

How many people on this board are saying they don't want him back?

It's more of if the Kings want him back as well as if does Voynov want to play here.

The Voynov situation is a tough one to comment on because we don’t want to offend anyone but if his wife is willing to look past it and continued to have babies with him and is still by his side then I’m willing to accept him back because he makes my favorite team better .

Sure, bring back Voynov, trade Martinez, making the Kings more hospitable to Russian players would be a huge boon, maybe he is a douche and would be a blemish on our team, but he'd help us win games.

I think Vilardi could benefit playing with Carter and Iafallo can play LW on that line. It's worth noting that Iafallo is 23, turns 24 in December.

Since they're dead set with Kempe at center, Pearson and Toffoli can play with him. They exhibited some chemistry as a trio and you have a combination of speed with Kempe, a forward capable of driving to the net and also able to use some outside speed in Pearson, and a sniper in Toffoli.

Thus leaving a combo of Lewis, Clifford, Thompson, Amadio and Brodzinski to compete for fourth line duty. I would like to see the lines spread out to be much deeper than what we saw last season, and being four lines deep and cutting down on the over-reliance of the Kopitar line could stand to benefit the team in April and beyond.

I like the idea of Vilardi with Carter alot and am right there with you. I could see Kovalchuk seeing time on that left side as well as Iafallo

Some of you are acting like Voynov wasn't a big part of the Cup-winning teams. To say that the same core will somehow not welcome him back or that VV will cause a rift in the locker room has no basis at all.

He also screwed them over and left them high and dry via beating a woman, a transgression that, for some men, is unforgivable.

It is definitely a possibility. Not saying it is a for sure thing, just saying the situation doesn't boil down to simple optics and fear of white knights on Twitter.

That's my big thing here too. There's a lot we're not privy to. Yes, I know the trial details are public, but we don't know the behind the scenes workings of either the court OR the team, but the team keeping or moving Voynov's rights shouldn't be seen as a definitive indication of anything.

It’s all academic until Voynov actually applies and gains readmission to the NHL, but I think his rights get eventually traded for a pick for a team like the Oilers. Everybody knows that team needs help on defense. Voynov needs a fresh start somewhere.

I like this, but I’m kinda liking the possibility of having three scary lines:

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
Kovalchuk-Carter-Vilardi
Pearson-Kempe-Toffoli
Clifford-Amadio-Lewis
Brodzinski-Thompson

How scary is a Kovalchuk Carter pairing? Who would a team try to stop? You just can’t match defense pairs against a lineup like that. Put your Schmidt-McNabb pairing against Kopitar’s line? The Carter line will eat your second pairing alive. If your team has two good pairs, then you have to trot out a third pairing against the Kempe line. That line had an excellent goals for % in 2017-18.

I think Vilardi would really excel on a line with Carter and Kovalchuk. He can use his strengths to contribute without having to carry the load. Iafallo can continue to develop and contribute to the success of Kopitar and Brown. I’m almost certain that Iafallo will score more than 10 goals on that line.

I’m really psyched about the depth of the team, assuming the hype around Vilardi is real.

The Kings welcomed back Mark Hardy after fondling his daughter. That was much worse, IMO.

Hell we honored him on legends night!

To a different city and not the same locker room, which would only further support the idea that he may not be coming back to Los Angeles, and it may not have anything to do with what he's done.

Has anyone heard anything on Iginla's status. I know he had surgery last year and that's why he sat out the Olympics. He doesn't seem like a guy that would accept a PTO but I would be curious to bring him in on a 1 yr 1.5M deal.

the team is finally getting faster and you want to bring in a 40+ year old who's even less than a shadow of his former self?

in a 4th line and PP role I would be curious. If that shadow looks close to the guy LA got 2 deadlines ago it could be a good fit. The year off scares the bejusus out of me though

Besides being rumored of re-signing Doughty I haven't heard much talk of us targeting another player.

I'm thinking nothing happens until the Voynov situation is settled.
