Iaffalo-Kempe-Vilardi on the 3rd line is 3 very inexperienced players. I do like having Vilardi's size mixed with Kempe and Iaffalo's speed and energy.

Very inexperienced. I would spot Lewis on the 3rd line instead, at least to start.

Drop Iafallo to 4th line maybe.

If we don't do trade for another scorer, what about shedding some salary and going after James Neal? What kind of contract would he be looking for?

I think Vilardi could benefit playing with Carter and Iafallo can play LW on that line. It's worth noting that Iafallo is 23, turns 24 in December.

Since they're dead set with Kempe at center, Pearson and Toffoli can play with him. They exhibited some chemistry as a trio and you have a combination of speed with Kempe, a forward capable of driving to the net and also able to use some outside speed in Pearson, and a sniper in Toffoli.

Thus leaving a combo of Lewis, Clifford, Thompson, Amadio and Brodzinski to compete for fourth line duty. I would like to see the lines spread out to be much deeper than what we saw last season, and being four lines deep and cutting down on the over-reliance of the Kopitar line could stand to benefit the team in April and beyond.

What’s the chance someone emerges at camp and makes the team unexpectedly? Brickley? I don’t see Blake being afraid of dumping a vet if someone earns a spot. I’d bet Claque gets a long look, but I’m thinking he starts in ONT. Our blue line is changing a lot over the next of years.

Call me crazy, but I would like the Kings to explore having MacDermid skate as a left winger every once in a while. He’s absolutely intimidating with his size. Park him in front of the opposing goalie. Someone would need to teach him how to tip shots.

Put a little thought in the back of the head in guys like Carrier or Reaves.
Park his azz on Lundqvist's head and Puetrangelo's bad leg. :D

kind of in the anders lee mold

doesn't need to be anything flashy, just a large human willing to stand there

doubt the team has the balls, but i'm not quite willing to give up on him as a defenseman yet

That's how I'd build my lineup.

Kovy--Kopitar--Brown
Iafallo--Carter--Vilardi
Pearson--Kempe--Toffoli
Brodzinski--Amadio--Lewis
Thompson, Clifford

Forbort--Doughty
Muzzin-LaDue
Phanuef--Martinez
Brickley

Quick
Campbell

*Ideally I'd trade the whole 3rd pairing defense (separate deals) if Voynov came back. I'd like to have Voynov back but it's starting to sound like LA management doesn't want him.

But IF it was possible...

Forbort--Doughty
Brickley--Voynov
Muzzin--LaDue

And for those of you doubting that Vilardi will make the team, do yourself a favor and subscribe to The Atlantic and read the article on Vilardi that was written by Josh Cooper.

Kings staff gushes all over Vilardi, and another unnamed scout is quoted saying that he thinks Vilardi will be playing in the NHL next season. Stoll compares his skillset to that of someone who is quite popular among Kings fans: Ryan Getzlaf.

I like this setup. Roll 3 scoring lines.

My only concern is having a 35yo, 31yo and 34yo on the top line. Oldest top line in the league?

If this setup allows them to roll the lines more evenly it could slightly cut the ice time of the old man top line, and that's not a bad thing.

Wouldn't you agree that the 31 year old and 34 year old were the two best forwards throughout the entirety of the 2017-18 season? I can't think of any other forwards who were as consistent as those two.

Personally I didn't think Gaborik and Jokinen were all that good. Your views may vary.

How is it not the problem? It's the main reason we lost to Vegas, IMO.

MAF and just ZERO puck luck was why we didn't win. I mean, Brown has a layup pp goal , the puck hits a rut in the ice, goes on edge as he hits it, then the puck goes high and wide hitting Kopitar instead. That's just one example.

All this talk about not wanting Voynov back makes me laugh. While I thought what he did a crappy thing, I think he’s been punished enough. Lost almost a full year. As to whether the Kings fans would want him back - do I have to remind you who our GM is? When DL brought him back, I thought this place was going to have a meltdown. A few years later, I hear zilch about getting rich of Blake.

Bring Slava back as long as the locker room is ok with it.

The Kings toughness is going to have to mostly come from Kyle Clifford.

The Kings top 9 would have to be incredible for the team to dress someone like MacD, and if they did they'd have to scratch Clifford anyways.

Sucks that Clifford sucks at being intimidating

Kovalchuk - Kopitar - Brown
Iafallo - Carter - Vilardi
Pearson - Kempe - Toffoli

I don't think the third line works well at all. 2/3 of the season showed that. Iafallo isn't ready for the top 6 and Vilardi has yet to play a NHL game. I don't think he's ready for top 6 either.

Iafallo - Kempe - Vilardi
Has decent speed and a puck hound. I am admittedly nervous at the inexperience.

Imagine if the Kings traded for Lucic, with the Oiler taking on half the remain salary in exchange for Voynov .

LOL, I thought of this earlier today! They were talking about Lucic on NHL radio and I thought, “What if they Kings got him at half price.”
