I seriously hope not, this team isn’t ready yet to make a run without another top 6 forward.
There’s this thing called a trading deadline. I mean, if the Canadiens wanted Voynov bad enough, I would totally do a Pearson and Voynov’s rights for one season of MaxPac, but the Kings don’t have an obvious hole to fill at this point, assuming Vilardi is as good as he seems. If Kovy puts up 25 goals, this team should make the playoffs. Once Blake and Stevens get a good handle on what they need halfway through the season, then they’ll make another move.

If the Canadians want Voynov bad enough, I want them to agree to take Phaneuf. I would prefer if it was after this season since the cap situation is such that we don't need to do that just yet (and lower the cost to dump Phaneuf) but we definitely will before next season due to all the RFAs coming off ELCs.

The only issue is if Voynov just signs for a year. Then that forces the kings to do something with him (and Phaneuf) now.

I think the Devils overpay here. Would be an awesome dream to have both Drew and EK on the same team. Be like when the Sucks had Pronger and Neidermeyer

The Kings PP is not the problem. The PP is average. Kovalchuk probably isn't going to improve the PP.

Go look at the NHL teams Kovalchuk played for. How good were their PP's?

How is it not the problem? It's the main reason we lost to Vegas, IMO.

I think the Kings are done this summer with respect to making a big splash. We will likely sign a Cammy like player in the summer, and make trades to unload some players for picks or future considerations considering our bottom 6 and D-core are backed up a bit. If Blake was interested in trading assets for a big name after already getting Kovy, he would have pulled the trigger on the Skinner trade that was allegedly already lined up.

Personally, I think the summer will be a success with just the Kovy signing and Vilardi coming into the lineup. If we can also straighten out the Voynov situation that will be huge. Assuming he gets a 30-40 game suspension, we can have him in our lineup after the trade deadline OR he will be cleared to play by the trade deadline and we can trade him for assets or a roster player.

Dion for Lucic with $1M retained...I'd do it

Dion filled a good role in our blueline during the time he was here. I don’t get the sentiment of wanting to send him packing ASAP. If he leaves, we have that hole again.

Dion is no longer a bonafide top 2 D, and his skating isn’t great, but in protected minutes and on the PP he was invaluable. We need a physical veteran D playing at least 10+ minutes a night.

I don't think we will ever see Votnov in a Kings jersey again. He is a great talent and fills a hole in our organization but I don't know if we would take on the PR nightmare.

In my mind he has paid his dues, he is still with his wife, and he should be allowed back but there are many others on the opposite side of the fence that are far more vocalized.

The thing about Voynov is that it isn't 100% about the public perception, you also have a locker room that might not be too keen on it.

Let's be honest here, nobody condones what he did but--on top of that--his actions are a big reason why this team went down the tubes. He is the biggest reason that their title defense season crashed and burned. You'd have to wonder how popular he is with Quick, Brown, Kopitar etc...for that reason, let alone beating his wife on top of it.

i mean, a locker room that was willing to eat a huge fine to practice with him shortly after it happened

just saying

I wouldn't do a Phaneuf for Lucic type of deal. We know what we got in Phaneuf - a reliable, stay at home defenseman, who can log solid minutes on the second pair and is good with the breakout passes. He is a bit overpaid for his role, but he is very solid for us. Lucic, on the other hand, may never get back to scoring 20 goals plus, and on top of that, is counter to our move towards a faster and more skilled team.
