Not so sure about Smith but it would be absolutely criminal if Skjei wasn't on the 2nd pairing..

What are the chances of seeing AD-Skjei as a 2nd pairing to start the season?

i can see that being a thing eventually because it would emulate a lesser version of what McD-Shatty could be. Brady would have to be the Beukeboom (if you get what i'm saying), although a way more mobile and less physically imposing version of Beuke. i honestly don't think it'll happen at the beginning of the season, but that's just my opinion.

the skating alone on that pairing would be absolutely amazing to watch, though. hope we get to see it in preseason.

Zuke - Kreider, Nash - Buch, Grabner - Vesey, Poempel - Fast (when he's back from an injury). However your point is well taken. The Rangers are at least a forward short at the moment (and carry an excess at D). They are very likely are waiting to see who might become available either as a cut or for a trade.

I would guess that first option is to see if someone is ready to be a rookie (Gropp, Nieves, etc)

What was interesting was AV didn't have any real input on dejardins coming in. Mentioned in press con that jeff and chris wanted to take a look but that's all he knew about it. So definitely not a guy on the coaches radar. Have a sense farnahm is probably in similar boat perhaps as AHL depth.

Pretty clear to me we are leaving one spot open for a rookie forward.

Nieves Gropp are probably the two guys that are going to get the longest looks.

Tambellini could be in the mix as well although that's a long shot.

Andersson may get his cup of coffee while Fast is recovering for a few weeks. But he's got to show a lot more than he just did for even that.

I'm telling you, with all the off-season quotes about rebuilding on the fly, giving young guys a bigger role, this new slogan on the shirts...I really think there's a chance Staal sees the press box at points this season. I think the front office and staff may be pushing a philosophical shift.

M. Staal is a experience player though - I think it`s based on his conditioning related to minutes with AV comments. Maybe there are unsure how well he is prepared for this camp based on last year injuries, but when M. Staal is on his game - he is still a very strong defender in NHL.

When was the last time Staal was on his game though?

These are nice quotes from Staal. But at the end of the day, we'll have to wait and see what AV does.

I think you're going to see staal Holden and DeAngelo all in and out of the lineup based on their play.

Bereglazov I really doubt is a threat to any of them.

Pionk I like but he needs AHL time let's be very honest.

The one guy we hear nothing about is Ryan Graves. Where is he at in his Development? Is he pushing anyone? Like I said he cant pivot at an NHL level is the last I've heard.

Did Staal just take a jab at Ottawa? "Any time you lose to a team like that"

Woof lol

Yeah, that was jab, lol. Maybe M. Staal will show us something different this year in a condition he had some years ago when he was in top form! ;)

It has been a while since, but it`s a new season. Maybe he has prepared very well - I just think it`s too early to exclude anyone.

I agree with this actually. The chances of Staal recovering to the extent that he's worth his check are very, very slim, but it's possible that he recovers well enough to be a steady stay at home vet that helps someone like DeAngelo roam a bit and engage on offense.
