Desjardins has a lot of NHL experience. He could be a legitimate option for an NHL deal. Not saying he's good or that we should give him one, but he's played 400 games over the past 7 years with good clubs San Jose and Chicago.

Good competition for Andersson and Nieves!!

And yet he's a better skater then everyone on NYR except McD and Skjei.

Some guys are just naturally going to carry more weight than others, Buff is one of those guys and so is Day.

If dropping 10 pounds is going to make Day even quicker then he should do what he can to make that happen but I'd caution against believing that it's going to make a drastic difference (I also question the validity of his listed weight.)
And most people don't know that muscle weighs more then weight. The only way to tell if he's out of shape is his body mass no weight.

hed be even better about 10 or 15lbs less.

its not 10 or 15lbs of muscle..the guy has fat.

Byuf is fat too. but hes got a bomb of a shot and a mean streak, so its fine. Day can skate..but hes not mean, and he doesnt have a bomb (At least not that ive seen). if skating is your thing, then do everything you can to accentuate that aspect. hed be even better if he toned up.

lol he's not wrong inferno

I think Day has a very heavy wrist shot from what I've seen. The kid can fly he'll get into pro shape if he's serious about his career just like any other guy. It won't happen at 19 though. Takes a few years of pro camps to get it right. But I don't care about his weight at all. He'll get stronger and faster if anything

Haven't we all heard this about Kessel as well?

Some guys are just naturals.

I love how we are talking about a 19 year old's weighing too much. Some people have no shame.

Let the kid be from a weight perspective. If his employer has a problem with his playing weight, they'll tell him. You don't need to play nutritionist for Day.

I mean I'm being way too rude but every once and awhile I step back and realize the stuff we say about these kids and the way it seems like we as fans feel entitled to pass judgement and demand things of them with no real expertise or in depth knowledge of the player themselves. It starts feeling less like we're talking about people and more video game characters or something.

In Day's case, all we heard from him since the time he was drafted is how he had reasons (valid family ones IMO) for his under-performance before being drafted and how he's working hard to get in better shape and commit himself to being a better player, we've heard about how he actually has been in better shape, but all people can do is call him a fatass with poor work ethic and demand that he meet their arbitrary standards.

What will ultimately get Day into the NHL or keep him out of it is going to be his head for the game

I'm completely fine with anyone critiquing Day's game, but I think there's just a line with the critiques to not cross, and I think thats when you get to issues that aren't about their hockey ability, whether its talking about their work ethic, their weight, their attitude, their presence in the locker room, their political beliefs if we are talking about DeAngelo, their life outside of hockey. Their hockey is very easy to judge, they either are a certain level or aren't. The rest involves things none of us actually know all too much about, unless you know these guys, so I think its just naive to pass judgements on them based on anything thats not hockey related.

We haven't seen Tony D yet, hopefully Bereglazov shows more at camp and preseason, and Pionk seems to be steadier with more upside for now

So yep can go slow with Day

Also Ryan Graves is now 3rd yr pro, he saw all these guys added to the D queue, he may come to camp ready and hungry and force tough decisions

Honestly, it's going to be

McD-Shatty
Skjei-Smith
Staal-Holden/DeAngelo

As much as I'd like to see Bereglazov and Pionk take spots from Holden and Staal, AV is gonna AV and cut them even if they are clearly better players. Granted, Staal has a NMC so we can't send him down anyways... I'm ok with Pionk seasoning. Bereglazov could use time to adjust to American ice but Gorton has to get that blue line sorted out before long.

For me I like the strides that Day and Gettinger have made from last year's TC to this year's. They were both more involved and even if they struggled like the rest to put up points both of them showed real improvement. Day still has work to do defensively. It would be nice if he could become more proactive physically too. As for Gettinger he was a mainstay on the penalty kill. His size and long reach--he doesn't have to become a big goal scorer or point producer in the NHL. If he can get to the point where he can knock in 10-15 goals a year and the rest of his game develops he could turn into a very good bottom 6 forward. Watching him I was thinking that's very realizable.

I also liked Ronning--he always plays hard. Maybe he's Ryan Bourque redux but it's hard not to root for him. I think we got somewhat the same out of Crawley. Sometimes those guys who lack a little in overall talent--when they finally get a chance they show up and they compete harder than others do.

Can anyone tell me about him? Seems like an odd guy to bring in at 26?

I don't really know anything about him. He played big minutes on the UMD team that lost the NCAA title game and wore an A. He was also the oldest player in D1 college hockey.

Before UMD he played Junior A for a long while then spent a year in NCAA DIII with some school I never heard of. Then the full career at UMD.

I'm sure there some interesting story behind his journey, but I haven't heard it.

day has all the tools and he's had them early. he's a gifted skater. makes it look easy out there. his issues continue to be the same thing.

his hockey mind.

some guys have it some guys dont and never do.

jurys still out on sean day. once his conditioning is dialed in and his effort/compete level is pro average, then well see if he's got more than a just tool box.

kids ultra talented but that aint enough to play nhl top 4 Dman.

Is training camp expedited this year? 6 games in a 10 day span seems like a lot, no?
