Nash is looking ready to go

Embedded them for you

Thanks. That comment on Staal is super interesting. I doubt he'll not make the starting lineup but it'll be interesting to see if his spot in the lineup is tenuous and he gets benched later

Can't complain on the Skjei quote. As good as he was last year, it's still only one good year and he's young. He should have to compete. If last year wasn't a fluke it's his spot.

Skjei quote is fine. Everyone should be competing. Nothing should be a given. I mean in reality there are plenty of givens, but you want to instill the mentality that everyone has to fight for their spot, nothing is handed out. I'm cool with AV saying that.

As I said in the other thread, the quote on Staal seems to imply AV is aware he isn't what he once was. It could be more of the "everyone has to earn it" stuff, but the fact that he specifically said it's the "first time" Staal has to compete to me implies he's aware Staalsy is slipping.

Could also be basically just trying to allude to the depth on D they have going into camp and the competition here but we'll see

Totally agree on every point.

As an aside when the AV haters come at u, I have ur back

I'm still surprised people were all over AV for how he handled Buchnevich who came into camp last year in the same shape I come into beer league every fall in. Kid looks like he learned his lesson but he was badly out of shape last year. Badly.

That Staal quote is a hammer thudding on top of Staal's confidence. Staal knows he's in for it.

Here's the problem though... AV dropping that quote means that they know Staal isn't tradable. What is there for Staal to play for? nothing, a buyout, that's about it.

This doesn't end well for any part. That cap hit is going to kill us

It's also possible this a play to make Staal waive his NMC for a less than desirable location. Extremely wishful thinking, but it could be true.

In what world is Nash slow? C'mon now ODC. Skinny is a good thing. Less weight = quicker

he's lumbering imo. ok, not slow more lumbering. he has spurts of activity and effort but can also look um... not fast. his quickness needs alot of work. losing mass may not be the answer.

so now he's a lumbering skinny old guy who cant shoot at 7.8 large

lovely.

Is Staal the type to skate as extra defensemen in practice then dress for game and do pre skate and then told your not in. Maybe a little discomfort for Mark "Greenwich" Staal.

I wouldn't want Nash to lose too much mass. So much of his offensive game is based on his strength, if he drops any substantial amount of muscle mass I'd worry about the impact.

Couldn't it be seen as motivation for Staal? Maybe they feel he was a bit too comfortable in the past...

Now there are multiple guys knocking (pounding) on the door.

I don't think its motivation. Anyone who has been paying attention knows that Staal has been garbage for the better part of the last 3 seasons.

Its not for a lack of effort, hes just a bad player at this point. I don't see AV making him an extra (unfortunately) unless hes forced to make that happen.

I`m just listning to AV now from the press corner, and AV mention he like to use Miller in a center position - that`s interesting so he talked with Jeff earlier this summer and not just a random comment earlier from Jeff Gorton.
