I don't want us to be picking 21st again. 31st or top 10.

This is a ridiculous mindset.

You're living off of thinking of Crosby, McDavid, Matthews, Ovechkin...

Good organizations that compete and build are the ones that win [outside of the teams that not only drafted really high but also got incredibly lucky with their selection]
i.e. What the Rangers are doing, and what they did in 2005/06

You'd be willing to burn the team down and put in the dumpster for a lottery ticket - and more often than not that doesn't even result in a Cup, or even close to the playoff success that this team has had the past decade.

Even if the Rangers tanked, got super lucky and selected 1st overall, what happens when your 1st overall and the thing you tanked your season for Erik Johnson, Rick Nash, Nail Yakupov, Aaron Ekblad

I am afraid you are right. DeAngelo/Pionk will be chastised the moment they miss a puck while Staal can just stand still and be on the ice for 3 goals against every game without it affecting his minutes

Regardless of the shtick around some of these parts AV has done a pretty good job at routinely developing our young talent. In fact, the Rangers organization as a whole has for the last decade.

He really shouldn't be speaking to the media.

Why does he need to speak to them? If I was running the organization, I would impose a rule where rookies can't speak to the media. Maybe they can do an interview with their local paper or if they are not from NA, some big paper in their home country, but they shouldn't be subjected to the same guys who are picking fights with savvy NHL vets like Dan Boyle, especially when they struggle to even understand basic English. Just not much good that can come from it, in my opinion.

Picking fights with Dan Boyle FFS. More like Dan Boyle with hurt feelings because he had to sit a few games because he kind of sucked in his last couple years with us taking it out on a reporter on breakup day. In any case the Rangers make their players available to the press and young rookies in particular are players the fans want to get to know better.

They also make themselves available, this crap ain't mandatory

OK..Having Staal on the 3rd is far from the worst thing in the world.
To claim otherwise is a bit beyond crazy..
Does that work for you?
It isn't the worst, but it's a situation that could be a lot better. I've come to terms with the fact that he's here and will play, but I understand why others are a little more fixated on it. We have potentially better, younger, cheaper players being blocked.

No--not mandatory but the Rangers would certainly encourage their players to make themselves available--that was a video from their own official site--if they didn't like it they wouldn't make it available to their fans. At the same time there is a narrative they like their players to stick to or parameters to stick within--something that Dan Boyle decided didn't apply to him any longer on his final day in the Rangers locker room. Chytil being young and a little bit more self conscious in speaking about himself and his team is very unlikely to cross any boundaries.

If you post something ridiculously wrong you're going to get it. Lol rookies can't speak with the media, what next, they have to have an escort to the toilet?

I wish they added a dislike button as well if the site decided to start keeping a score.

I don't agree, at all. I don't think Bereglazov was given much of a chance, and he did fine in the one game he got. Seemed a strange demotion to me.

Both were bad at Traverse City, hard to really distinguish based on preseason though, and one of the two came into this season with significant professional experience. If a Hobey Baker winner can barely keep up in the NHL (if he even did that), I'm not so sure Pionk will be able to be a regular NHL'er without any AHL time, but I don't think he's far off. Give him half a year or maybe a year, and he'll be ready.

You seriously think that Bereglazov is somehow more ready than Pionk? Pionk handily outplayed him.

Having Staal in the line up is in itself a cause for concern. The only other option is Holden (I am not sure some posters understand that it would be VERY unlikely that the Rangers would play two rookies as a pair (and as of now our top 4 is set, like it or not). My other issue with this is if Staal-ADA pair does not work, I bet DeAngelo will be the one taken out of line up.

I'm not sure if that's actually the case. Given that he has a NTC (NMC?), the fact that Staal hasn't been moved does not mean that other teams have no interest.

If there was any interest in Staal, wouldn't it stand to reason that there would be even whispers of the Rangers approaching Staal about waiving his NMC? I feel comfortable with the idea that there is no interest around the league in having Staal on a 3rd pair. In fact, 'common sense' would dictate it.

Yeah, but ya know, narrative and whatnot. He yo-yoed JT Miller because the kid couldn't make a pass or read in the defensive zone to save his life two years ago, and Buch came into camp built like chicken little. Totally AV's fault.

Hell, I thought Pionk played better than ADA at certain points in training camp. Both were fantastic, while Beargloves clearly showed he wasn't able to play effectively on the smaller ice, yet.

Yeah, I mean, I don't even think it was close. Lol.

Would depend on the money asked to eat, IMO.

Pionk was much better than Bereglazov. It wasn't even close. One wonders whether it's just a matter of Alexei adjusting to the rinks and the system stuff. He wasn't exactly awful but he wasn't very good either. He was handling the puck like it was a live hand grenade.

Speaking to the media is part of their job. If you were running the organization the team would finish dead last every year, draft awful players, sign awful players and eventually go bankrupt.

I was actually very impressed with Graves this preseason. Was very poised with the puck, played a nice physical game and made some nice plays. I'd expect to see him this season with the big club and hopefully, if he keeps progressing as he has, with the big club permanently next year (as next year he will require waivers to be sent down)

Yeah..I agree with all but that's just it, I've come to terms with it as well.
I posted the pairings I'd like to see a few different times and Staal is #7.

I was surprised with Bear Gloves. Definitely thought he would have much more of a noticeable impact in his preseason debut.
