Yeah, so many teams would want Staal on the 3rd pair, and yet the Rangers can't give him away even if they retain salary. Gorton is just being stubborn on the what he perceives as Staal's true value.
I'm not sure if that's actually the case. Given that he has a NTC (NMC?), the fact that Staal hasn't been moved does not mean that other teams have no interest.

Careful..Common sense apparently doesn't apply around here to some lol

Some people really just too much time whining - like a toddler that has a toothache and won't stop crying; when you grow up you realize you don't have to cry non-stop just because something is annoying, you move on.

Staal looks awful and Gorton says no more later in the season... Chytil either sticks or gets a late season callup for the playoffs...

Kreider Zib Zucc
Miller Chytil Buch
Vesey Hayes Nash
Grabner DD Fast

McDonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei DeAngelo
Smith Pionk

Maybe...

True, but even if he didn't have the MNC I don't think we'd see teams rushing to land him in a deal, especially at that salary.

Hell, even at half that salary.

Did you think Girardi would be signed for the contract he got?

I knew he'd be signed, but not for that much. Only a 2 year pact, though I also thought hed get a year at most.

I think Staal is worse, so yeah. No one will trade for him and the 4 years he has remaining at even 50% of his salary. He is only going to regress harder from here on out.

eh these guys now what they sign up for, very few players were fighting because they were jumped, guys who fought did so because they choose to. This is an entertainment business. I'm not trying to get off topic but the league was far more entertaining 5 years ago than now and ratings reflect that.

Any idea what the lines are this year? and do we have any players who can chuck em?

Lines are looking like

Kreids-Ziba-Buch
Nash-Chytil-Zucc
Grabner-Hayes-Miller
Vesey-Desharnais-Carey

McD-Shatty
Skjei-Smith
Staal-DeAngelo

DeAngelo had a good preseason. Not great, not bad, showed a very good offensive game, also had some defensive struggles. And we have no tough players, Kreider, McDonagh, Smith and Skjei can throw a hit, everyone else is soft. No fighters on the team.

If the fighters you're looking for are a guy like Glass, I am happy there are none on this roster.

The time of tomato cans playing in an NHL lineup because tuffness, is virtually over. If you want to watch that, play an 80's or 90's game and have fun.

I love(d) fighting, it's fun to watch I must admit. That said, in the modern game very few players have the requisite hockey skills and fighting ability. Funny the league didn't even need new rules to legislate fighting out of the NHL. The modern NHL players skill levels are doing it regardless.

Graves and Pionk are real NHL options. I really liked what I saw from both. ADA as well, the D is in good shape going forward.

Thats why I suggested we not re-sign Smith or sign Shattenkirk. Those three are NHL players this year or at latest to start next season.

Could've easily iced a D like this

McD-Skjei
Holden-DeAngelo
Graves-Bereglazov
Staal

Pionk starts out in the minors because he needs to adjust to the physicality of pro hockey and there's no reason to rush him (myself managing the team would have this as a rebuilding year), and then in a year or maybe even mid-season he replaces Holden.

Wouldn't be great, but a lot of promise for the future. And people say that would be such a young defense, but it would have two guys with over 95 playoff games, and another NHL veteran who's in his 30's, so its not really all that young. Bereglazov has been a high level pro for years, Skjei has played in two playoffs. I didn't think this team was contending for anything, I wanted to revamp the defense, I wanted it to be young, cheap and skilled.

Bear Gloves was terrible in training camp why on god's green earth would you pencil him into a starting NHL lineup, especially when he showed he wasn't ready against partial AHL lineups? That defense above is demonstrably worse than what they have now, like an immense downgrade.

To put it mildly that's a f***ing horrible defense, I would want Gorton kicked in the groin every second for a full day if he did something like that.

Pionk is more NHL-ready than Bereglazov.

I don't agree, at all. I don't think Bereglazov was given much of a chance, and he did fine in the one game he got. Seemed a strange demotion to me.

Both were bad at Traverse City, hard to really distinguish based on preseason though, and one of the two came into this season with significant professional experience. If a Hobey Baker winner can barely keep up in the NHL (if he even did that), I'm not so sure Pionk will be able to be a regular NHL'er without any AHL time, but I don't think he's far off. Give him half a year or maybe a year, and he'll be ready.

Not saying Pionk is ready. I'm saying he's more NHL ready than Berez. Both could use half a season at least in the A.

Our current D is lightyears better than that, though

Chytil spoke with the media for 2 minutes today after practice. His english is much better than I was lead to believe.

I`m speculating, but it might be changes later this season - Graves or Pionk will get a call up later this year. It`s seldom that we go through a full 82 games season without changes - injuries is also common in that topic. Maybe a new coach too in the end of this season if AV fail to get the results - AV was asked about season expectation by a journalist earlier some days ago, and the Rangers franchise goal is to reach playoffs so that did not change.

Vigneault not lowering Rangers expectations despite shakeup.

My question is however did Gorton make the AV`s job easier this year based on recent summer activities in attempt to reach the Rangers franchise main goal this season to reach playoffs?

He really shouldn't be speaking to the media.

Why does he need to speak to them? If I was running the organization, I would impose a rule where rookies can't speak to the media. Maybe they can do an interview with their local paper or if they are not from NA, some big paper in their home country, but they shouldn't be subjected to the same guys who are picking fights with savvy NHL vets like Dan Boyle, especially when they struggle to even understand basic English. Just not much good that can come from it, in my opinion.

Well the defense is better than last year. Simply subtracting Girardi was an immense positive, than adding Shatty and ADA makes the right side significantly better. Down the middle is the real question mark, losing Stepan was a significant loss and Lindberg hurts a bit as well.

lol What in the world, it's not the gestapo

Some people aren't socially awkward; some people enjoy showing their new fans, management, friends, family, etc. that they are improving at a new language and acclimating well to a new lifestyle.
