So... I just heard something that's good news... at least to everyone who's not named Tomi Sallinen.

4 players on ice, we get too many men just because lajunen went in change so fast it looked suspecting.

Still no 60min game.

Good start with some luck added, but what a failure to end it.

Overall Aho hasn't been Aho and that's not good news to us as with Rants he's our best player on paper.
Hopefully Rants is okay and ready to continue.

Even with the lower minutes Pulju had to be among team leaders in scoring chances this game, definitely deserves to stay. Hate that missed penalty call.

Time to move on from the old defense core of Jaakola, Ohtamaa, Hietanen, Kukkonen, Lajunen etc. Lehtonen and Honka have been our best defenseman in this tournament so far. Need more guys like that on the team instead of same old scrubs who wont ever win anything.

The game is about speed these days.

What's the feeling in Finland about Ristolainen declining to play in the WC?

Looking at this garbage can't blame him  but we neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed him.
His focus right now seems to be getting Buffalo to playoffs.

Kinda mixed. Your average Joe is pissed off, hockey fans are divided. Most people understand why Laine declined, but not so much with Ristolainen.

There have been rumours about several players disagreeing with Marjamäki, but who knows what the truth is.

That was more or less a 50/50 game in terms of control and scoring chances, so in that sense the result isn't that bad, but still blowing a three-goal lead like that really isn't acceptable. I don't know what's going on, but there's something that's going wrong here either tactically or mentally. Also there are worrying signs on an individual level, most critically in that Aho has been a turnover machine so far, and Jaakola seems to get faked out super easily over and over. Additionally some of the forwards just can't seem to fulfill their responsibilities in the offensive end; it's really just the top line and Pulju who are generating any kind of scoring threath consistently.

Agreed on Aho. He seems a bit gassed and makes poor decisions which I haven't seen before in the regular season. The defence is obviously quite lacking in every area. Lehtonen and Honka the only light in the darkness.

Aho had exactly as long season(s) as Laine did, longer even if we factor in the concussion sickleave.

While it isn't acceptable, it's still kinda somewhat less not acceptable when that three-goal lead mostly comes from Lady Luck and it's not some weird last-minute perfect storm, but more or less asking for it for two whole periods.

Another thing I picked up from that game is that I don't think that Marjamäki should be given all the blame for this situation - plenty of it, but not all. We may have a situation where our players simply don't cut it. 40 minutes of sheer survival battle - can't put that all on what's behind the bench. Jaakola especially has looked pretty damn bad, but that shouldn't come as a surprise, given how abysmal season he's had overall. Though of course, the onus for picking him falls on the coach.

That being said, nothing's still lost, at least in theory. With the loser point here, we shouldn't need more than six points from Slovenia/Norway/Switzerland. 10 points is usually enough to make it to the QF. Though I'm starting to feel like I'm sated if we simply survive to next year so we can try again then. Maybe with a new coach.

"The game was in our hands" -Marjamäki. Yeah, in the first 10 minutes... after that you got heavily outplayed, Mr. Mastermind. Still waiting for full 60mins of "not totally ****" hockey. And who the **** chose Jaakola to the final team? Even Jokerit didn't want to resign him, but he is good enough for the national team? What a joke...

So, are we witnessing the end of Finnish national team hockey at senior level? It seems so. The star players decline for reasons understandable. The coach is a dunce and Olympics are played with worse teams than these belittled Skoda Cups.

As bad as it looks now, a new start with some credited high profile mr. coach could give the needed recharge and surge to this shambles. Like some Kevin Keenan style guy with swagger and charisma.

Would that be a good thing or a bad thing?

Filppula, Lehtera, Kemppainen. Difficult to imagine slower C trio and Lehtera wouldn't even be 100%.

When you add Lajunen you basically have a snail skating show. Our team overall has looked like Saku on Ice where Estonian alcoholics skate and drink Saku.

Oh man this team can't catch a break. Even though Marjamaki started the turtle too early it was kinda in control. Lot of shots were from the outside and the goals they got came from brutal individual mistakes. Jaakola didn't have his best game.

We have to remember that golden years are just about to come. Because we lacked talent for so long time now we can see that youngsters can't do it all by themselves.
