You just keep seeing Marjamäki in some kind of positive light.
Nope, I'm neutral towards him. Some of you seemingly just hate him with so much passion that any other stance seems like it's in the other end of the scale.

Chill. It's just hockey. We can talk about what to do with him after the tournament is over.

Hopefully we can at least make it to the qf.

I'm not sure which would make for a more exciting game. Playing Russia or Sweden? Things can change, but most likely one of them for the match up, if we can even make it there.

Just woke up from a nap so I might be misinterpreting this, but does Aaltonen really say that they're not there to play for their fans?
Seems like it, at least. It's of course a pretty nonsensical stance - pro sports are played specifically for the audience, most of whom are fans. A pro hockey player is basically an actor, except he doesn't have a script.

You'll of course have to ask clarification from JMA himself if he really meant what he seemingly said, I won't put words in his mouth, but what I can say personally is that while hockey is played for the fans, the players don't have to play it as the fans demand.

now, here!
So this year we had:

Rask is world class goalie. (Stanley cup finalist&winner)

Ristolainen (Maybe next year going to be top 10 defender in the wolrd)
Määttä (Stanley cup winner) Maybe top4

Offence:

Teräväinen (Stanley cup winner)
Filppula (Stanley cup winner)
Donskoi (Stanley cup finalist)

just adding stuff

So after perhaps the worst possible outcome of the France vs Switzerland match, Finland now encounters must-win scenarios vs both Norway as well as Switzerland assuming expected outcomes for the rest of the matches.

By the way, I expect Finland to lose vs Canada.

France is expected to end up at 11 points. They have the tiebreaker over Finland.

If Finland loses in extra time vs Norway or Switzerland, then both Finland and that country are expected to be in a tie at 11 points as well. However, they also have the tiebreaker vs Finland and that'd mean that Finland would place behind both France and Switzerland/Norway.

Essentially, this means that Finland has to win vs both Norway and Switzerland. And I'm not exactly all that confident that this is going to be a walk in the park.

What is interesting is that assuming these expected outcomes, Finland can actually afford to lose vs Slovenia if they beat both Norway and Switzerland(one in regulation). In that case, Finland would be at 10 points while Norway and Switzerland would be at 9.

At least the games will be exciting and have more meaning. Last year, it would have been a walk in the park and just high expectations to see Finland win by a huge margin.

Kind of, but this isn't exactly the kind of excitement I'm looking for.

So what's the deal with Lehterä? Coming? Not coming?

Jere Lehtinen said that we were supposed to get update on this evening but I don't think we got any. Must be later today that we hear more about it.

I expect Finland to beat Slovenia easily tomorrow but if Finland some how loses then that's the end for Marjamäki for sure, but I'm sure they wouldn't fire him during the tournament cause that would be too risky with the relegation etc.

Oh bhoy. We live interesting times indeed. Finland the Lion Heart is fighting for its pride and honour in the upcoming games. Forget the tool and his lame spiritless blueprints and go for a tear. Go for a roar!

Lehterä's a no show, I hear. So they'll probably add Sallinen today.

I think he meant that. And I think it's ok to take that approach to clarify your mind and keep it simple. But it sure does sound harsh the way he said it.

When you start playing the sport you don't care is there a crowd or not. You start the hobby for other reasons and you play for other reasons, that is the root level of things. That is how it exists when the puck hits the ice. You play because you love to play and you pull together as the team.

When you are good enough, you get to represent your country and accept it if you are proud to represent your country. Still in the root level of things, when the puck hits the ice you still play because you love to play and it's a team game where you play for the team, he is right, that's the way things are.

I'm sure he appreciates fans and it's a fact that team sports as it stands today would not exist as such if it was not for the fans. In that sense you always do play for the fans and they provide revenues that turn to sponsorships and salaries paid. He is right and wrong. I think we all know what he meant, it just sounded real blunt. They need to make things simple and take the pressure off, that's what was on his mind, get to basics.

He should go straight into the playing line up. Revive that EHT line.

Two good games for Lajunen and one bad game. I would try Sallinen instead of him or maybe Pihlström back to wing and Lajunen stays. Then extras would be JMA & M.Aaltonen.

I'd keep both Lajunen and Sallinen, simply to finally have four proper centres.

And realistically speaking, that'd mean Hännikäinen is most likely the one who drops out of the lineup.

Aho - Filppula - Rantanen
Savinainen - Lajunen - JMA
Pyörälä - Kemppainen - Puljujärvi
Pihlström - Sallinen - Osala
