Line numberings are irrelevant in the Finnish NT, because they're no indicator of the minutes the player is about to receive, nor even his ultimate role. People who whine about player X being in a line number Y are only showing their own toolness.

To carry on with the frivolities, those early reports the journos are typing don't always get the sides of the wingers right. So complaints about someone being on his off wing should be saved for gametime, when we actually see which side which player is on.

Defensive pair numberings are even more irrelevant.

The two things that matter are the compositions of the lines themselves and who's receiving PP time.

And as for those, well... I don't quite grasp Pihlström as a centre either. This team has five "career" centers and (per my counts) around five wingers I'd use as one before him. But eh, if there's one thing you have to give Marjamäki credit about, it's that he's not the kind of coach who settles on a line and rides it to death even if it doesn't work. (*Knocks on wood*) Pillu has to have some ability that makes him in Late's game plan a good fit for centre (legs, most likely), but if that ability isn't enough to make up the deficiencies he has for being a natural suit for the position, they have options to rectify that.

Other big oddity is the absence of M.Aaltonen from the PP units. But the threshold of shaking up those formations is even lower, if they get nothing done.

Then there's Pulju as the extra forward... well, I can see why people aren't happy about that - even if it's perfectly logical, given his EHT showings. And, at the same time, it's hilariously illogical 'cause a) the single biggest reasoning for him being in this team is his massive emergent potential (which he sure won't get to express from the end of the bench or pressbox), and b) all the faith and love JMA receives from Marjamäki.

That being said, the tournament scheduling makes it so these days that all selected forwards will get games. Only thing that might turn the extra forward into a complete wallflower is the arrival of some new player from overseas. And as for that, well... I suppose Lehterä is a possibility. And he'd be welcome, no matter his recent showings, since he'd give this team a "real" 2C if M.Aaltonen isn't allowed to be one after all.

First practice over in Paris.

Lineup

Aho-Filppula-Aaltonen Miro
Savinainen-Pillu-Rantanen
AaltonenJM-Kemppainen-Pyörälä
Osala-Lajunen-Hännikäinen

Puljujärvi/Sallinen extra forwards.

Pillu as 2nd center is the most strange spot.
What an embarrasing line-up, holy ****. Players out of position and Pillu as a top 6 C... I get that Marjamäki wants fast centers, but why on earth Pillu over M. Aaltonen? This team is going to be absolutely brutal to watch.

This is going to be awful year for finland. I have a strong feeling that we be 4th in our group and out of the tournament after first round.

All right ty.

I think we'll be second or third. Not first. That means most likely one of Russia, Sweden or Canada. It's going to be hard, but Finland is poison for Russia in playoff games so there's that. It's most important to avoid Canada IMO.

I don't think it's going to be brutal but the old cliche stands, winning first playoff game means a succesful tournament in WHC.

I don't like to watch this defensive play style that was used in EHT but if Marjamäki thinks it's the best way to get success with this roster then I'll take it.

If Canada can get motivated to play against us it's going to get really ugly.

If they are waiting on Lehtera and get him we have the slowest C group you could built.
The kids were/are the reason why I'm still waiting to watch the games, don't mess that up Marjamaki.

Puljujärvi sucks for now.. Don't know what his real potential is..

Edit. If he can't make the line up in that ****** team he is very very very far from a full time top 6 NHLer.

You mean the team 2 wins away from conference finals with Slepyshev and Pouliot as 4th line wings?

I think he meant this team with their three NHL forwards of whom two are just off their rookie season and the third one is a potential candidate to be the one who the Russian Tampa dude meant to throw under the bus just recently for being happy to just cash the check.

Atleast Pulju is going to get his passboard marked and starts as 13 forward.

This should mean that Pulju gets his change in playing 4 lines at some point of the tournament.

Marjamäki is pure cancer. He ditches Pulju, WHAT? I feel sorry for that kid, he deserves a better chance.

I hope that he gets to play on Sunday or as soon as possible. Would've preferred that he played vs BLR and gets some goals going and would find his confidence if it's not there vs a little bit weaker country.

There seem to be back to back games early on in the tournament so I'm pretty sure he dresses and plays against one of France or Czech or both.

FIN-BLR - Friday
FIN-FRA - Sunday
FIN-CZE - Monday

At least we have three superstars, Aho, Kukkonen and JMAaltonen. We can get a medal as usual

Aaltonen is far from superstar, most of the games this years PO's he seemed like a lazy bum who should play 5mins a game or nothing at all.
There were so many better players in liiga this year that I woud have personally take before him.
Seems like he got that spot because of past achievements.

JMA will show up when he plays with heart for important teams like Kärpät or Suomi. It is totally irrelevant how he performs in Helsinki teams - only for money.

He has been bad late season but still he is the most skilled player on the team

That is also the problem, yes he is VERY talented player who can win games by he's individual plays, but he can also dissapear completely and do nothing for the team and because of that diversity I dont like him because you can never know which JMA you will get.

What an absolute trash lineup. I would put Pulju in the first line over Miro freakin Aaltonen any day of the week. Just give chance to these rising stars like Pulju. You won't lose anything by doing that. Would have liked to see Aho and Pulju on the same line. I don't know how can i even watch that trash lineup.
Pihlström.. fo christ's sake

Where's Barkov btw?

Injured, he was shutdown at the end of season.

I still have to go back to Pulju, Marjamakis excuse is there's lots of games in short time and whatever.
You don't bench Pulju for the 1st damm game, that is the wrong way to handle a young forward.
You let him play the easy games and rest him later if must.

We need two clear top line centers for this torunament from game 1. Filppula and either one of Aho or Rantanen. Both can play and have played center for junior lions and their respective Liiga clubs back in the day. However we cant afford to play center roulette all tournament so maybe give Aho first line duties and Rantanen 2nd line center role, thats what Id do. If M. Aaltonen succeeds next to Filppula on the 1st, put Pooljärvi next to Rantanen and build from there.

Reading the last few posts of this thread... I had to do a double take and check if I've accidentally clicked the wrong tab and ended up reading the Ilta-Sanomat comment section.

But nope, it's HFBoards after all. Carry on guys.
