Not trying to hi-jack your thread but can someone give me a scouting report on Miro Aaltonen?

Should Leafs fans be expecting him to make the big club this coming season?

That depends on your forward situation, I guess. As it usually does.

He has all the tools to make it in the NHL. He's also pretty versatile, can play both centre and wing, top-six and bottom-six, so... If you have any holes left after you've inserted all the guys who're going to be staples no matter what, anything's possible.

Final Roster

Goalies
Joonas Korpisalo, Columbus Blue Jackets
Joni Ortio, Skellefteå AIK
Harri Säteri, Vityaz Podolsk

Defensemen
Juuso Hietanen, Dynamo Moscow
Julius Honka, Dallas Stars
Topi Jaakola, Jokerit
Joonas Järvinen, Kunlun Red Star
Lasse Kukkonen, Kärpät
Ville Lajunen, Jokerit
Mikko Lehtonen, HV-71
Atte Ohtamaa, AK Bars Kazan

Forwards
Juhamatti Aaltonen, HIFK
Miro Aaltonen, Vityaz Podolsk
Sebastian Aho, Carolina Hurricanes
Valtteri Filppula, Philadelphia Flyers
Markus Hännikäinen, Columbus Blue Jackets
Joonas Kemppainen, Sibir Novosibirsk
Jani Lajunen, Tappara
Oskar Osala, Metallurg Magnitogorsk
Antti Pihlström, Jokerit
Jesse Puljujärvi, Edmonton Oilers
Mika Pyörälä, Kärpät
Mikko Rantanen, Colorado Avalanche
Tomi Sallinen, Kunlun Red Star
Veli-Matti Savinainen, Tappara

Nailed the forwards earlier. Also, one left field pick in defense - Mikko Lehtonen.

My prediction: Preliminary Round 3rd Place and in QF after hart fight out.

I have lost all faith in Marjamäki as the national team coach. He should be sacked as soon as possible, if Finland wants to have at least respectable results in national team hockey in the near future. His play style is horrendous virkamies-käsijarru-kiekko (bureaucratic handbrake-hockey), which is an absolute pain to watch and makes my eyes hurt and head numb.

I watched practically all Kärpät games the previous season and noticed exactly this how his team was usually on this handbrake mode, in which even pretty good skaters don't manage to use their skating well, because everything is too tightly stuck into his tactically overemphasized playing style which sucks all the creativity and speed away from his teams and the individual players.

Sure he got some good results in FEL, but it just doesn't work at all on the international level and the the play was anyway really mostly boring to watch. Practically only Aho and Pulju made the team look occasionally better than they really were in Kärpät.

Just an absolutely horrendous coach for the national team. We would have maybe some chances if we had Westerlund, Jukka Jalonen or Karri Kivi as our national team coach, but with Marjamäki as our coach I'm already prepared for one of the worst world championship tournaments Finland has had in a long time. The good thing about it would be though that most probably Marjamäki would be sacked like he very much deserves to be. What a horrible coach for the national team really.

I wonder a little bit that there are no players from the other finalist of the finnish championship KalPa and not Roope Hintz from HIFK instead of Juhamatti Aaltonen. Janne Keränen, Jesse Mankinen both from KalPa and Roope Hintz seemed to have played a good season in the finnish liiga, Hintz much better than Aaltonen if I interprete the statistic from the finnish liiga correctly.

Ok, I don't know the finnish liiga and have no idea if these players would really strengthen the team.

Hintz was there during the preliminary games, but got cut. Rightfully so, I'd say. He may have had a better season with the club team, but Aaltonen was better in NT games. Not that Hintz was godawful, but still not quite there yet. However, since he's only 20, I've an inkling we'll see him make it in a year or two. Perhaps as soon as the olympics, unless the NHL changes its mind.

Keränen and Mankinen wouldn't make this team any better. Though not necessarily worse either, if we compare them to some of the filler picks. Lateral choices, in which case coaches tend to veer towards old familiars.

I'd probably start with something like this:

Aho-Filppula-Savinainen
Hännikäinen-M.Aaltonen-Rantanen
Pyörälä-Kemppainen-Puljujärvi
Pihlström-Lajunen-Osala
Sallinen, J.Aaltonen

Ohtamaa-Honka
Järvinen-Hietanen
Jaakola-Lajunen
Kukkonen-Lehtonen

Korpisalo
Säteri
Ortio

Not exactly phenomenal, but that might work. IMO this team rides or dies with how Aho and Rantanen perform.
Agreed. Gotta remember the 2011 team was basically an EHT team + Koivu and Ruutu.

are miro and Juhamatti brothers?

I see some lineups don't have miro aaltonen in the squad is he a long shot to make the final roster? I know nothing about him but hope to watch leaf players at this tourny

The final roster is already dedicated and he is in it.

But it would take a miracle for him to be in Toronto lineup next year. It's either AHL or back to KHL.

Agreed. I don't think he is good enough to make the leafs lineup. He'll either be in the AHL or back in the KHL.

First practice over in Paris.

Lineup

Aho-Filppula-Aaltonen Miro
Savinainen-Pillu-Rantanen
AaltonenJM-Kemppainen-Pyörälä
Osala-Lajunen-Hännikäinen

Puljujärvi/Sallinen extra forwards.

Pillu as 2nd center is the most strange spot.

If they're going with that, I have no idea what they're thinking. Put Sallinen there or put Aho at C if you force your own hand like that. But ****ing Pihlström...

Marjamäki and gang has officially lost it.

This haves to be a bad joke, right?,that man (Marjamäki)
can-not-be-serious with these line combos. :scared:

So basically, this guy puts Tappara's 1st line center to fourth
and uber 4th line d-forward, whos natural position btw
is winger to 2nd line center position

1. Miro Aaltonen isn't a RW,he plays either center or LW positions
2. Pihlström as a 2nd line center? WTF !?!!?!
3. JM Aaltonen is not LW,nor is he a defensive forward,he is offensive RW
4. Hietanen in 3rd pair? what a joke
5. The 4 centers should be: Filppula,Lajunen,Kemppainen,Sallinen
6. Puljujärvi should be in the line up (even if hasn't been that good,
his game will rise in these games)

1. Aho-Filppula-Rantanen
2. Savinainen-Lajunen-Puljujärvi
3. MiAaltonen-Sallinen-Hännikäinen
4. Osala-Kemppainen-Pyörälä

13. JMAaltonen

1. Honka-Hietanen
2. Kukkonen-Lajunen
3. Jaakola-Ohtamaa
7. Järvinen

1. Korpisalo
2. - wont matter -

For how long time have pillu played center?

Btw, stop calling him Pihlström, his name is Pillu from now on.

No thanks,thats just a dirty word,BTW i'm not 100% convinced
its even his real nickname,i think former JYP goalie
Sinuhe Wallinheimo haves something to do with that,
that it somehow supposedly is.

BTW just because its on wikipedia, doesn't make it a fact :) .

Benching Pulju for game 1 would be .....ng stupid.

Instead of giving him the chance to build up his confidence Marjamaki is considering destroying it.
What the ..... is Aaltonen doing there, what the hell is a 4th liner doing as a #2C?
