They invited Crawford, so yeah, just like me and other speculated, Canada wants to have 3 goalies this year, which is reasonable. I hope Crawford goes, would be great addition.

I think that Toews could accept the invitation, not that optimistic about Keith for some reason.

It means that Hextall and co. are aiming higher at this point.

Probably after they saw that Eichel, Kane and Gaudreau are confirmed for US. :naughty:

for a right handed D Hockey Canada has always been high on Spurgeon. personally I'd rather have Giordano with Hamilton as a pair. If Gio declines then I don't want Hamilton either. I'm guessing HC is shooting for Gio with Spurgeon as #1 and 2. Not what I would do. but as hockey players like to say, it is what it is.

One Oilers win off inviting Brett Burns?

Given I have tickets to the gold and bronze medal matches of this tournament, I am getting rather excited by all the stars rolling in!

Haha. The team we're assembling is miraculous. That's how bad things have been in the past.

I know, it was like pulling teeth to get stars from the U.S to play in that thing since the beginning of time but it looks as if the worm has finally turned, I knew it would with this generation.

Best Team U.S.A on paper at the world championships ever, no question about it.

Going to be an interesting tournament.

Mighty big of you jack.

Let's hope we get that game:)

Eh for this tournament, why not share the wealth with the Americans. Never in the WJC or a best on best tournament though. I'm glad to see them with a strong roster for a tournament of this level.

I'm hoping for a Canada v USA gold medal game. If we can't pull off the 3-peat, then I hope the Americans win it.

For several reasons.

1. It gives a snowshower to Bettman and the owners on the heels of their Olympic decision.

2. Having the Americans win would drive the Russians completely bananas. I'm sort of looking forward to reading Russian sport websites if in fact the Americans were to pull off a win at the WHC.

3. Embarrass a few of the bureaucrats at Hockey Canada for a disastrous year...perhaps we can get a few of them out of their privileged positions. Making it to the final but losing to any other team would be considered a successful tournament. 3 gold medal games in a row. can't win them all. Losing to the U.S. would stick to some of the hockey Canada bureaucrats.
.

What is disastrous about this year?

As for the Calgary players, I'm not shocked. Monahan looked pretty good in the playoffs, I really doubt that his surgery needed to be done right now. His choice though obviously. Brodie declined last year for whatever reason despite not missing any games, not surprised he did it again this year due to some vague family reasons.

Regarding Hamilton not getting an invite, that does seem to indicate that Hockey Canada has its sights on something bigger. Clearly Giordano is one such target, Keith is another (as was Brodie) and Burns is possible. I would probably take Hamilton over any of the Minnesota defencemen, but they are possibilities too. Maybe they are wondering about Rielly.

We, or should I say I, need more reports on what the press says over there when failures happen for the Russian team, would be so interesting for a guy like me to see what they are saying about that(which happens a lot these days)

Even just short little blurbs on the general attitude of the press, I know it's asking a little bit but i don't think short blurbs of that type would cause to much consternation in your life, you are our resident ear to the ground on that stuff for all of us here.

You speak and read russian,it would be a huge favor.

I could give you a hundred reasons but i won't take up that much of your time.

In general I agree, but this tournament isn't such a big deal to win. I'm generally far more interested in the invitations and the acceptances/refusals than I am in the results to be honest. For developmental reasons, a strong American team is a good thing for Canada. The troll benefits of a USA win are potentially quite enjoyable as well. I understand that most won't see it that way in Canada.

Agree with you)
Very intesting thing))))

Well, it's the skoda cup, certainly not life or death but it is still nice to win it and a 3 peat would be fantastic.

I see your point though.

If the Oilers win again, hopefully Brent Burns and Martin Jones come over to fill the number 1 goalie and defense positions.

I suppose if you count the gimmicky NHL World Cup, then the year hasn't been a complete disaster.

I judge success by the number of gold medals on all levels. So far I count a grand total of ZERO.

1 tournament remaining to salvage something... a tournament which you consider a good developmental tool for young players and future tournaments. Future tournaments that look to be nothing more than NHL gimmicky World Cups and Ryder Cup formats of Canada v the World or North America v The World. What a crappy world we live in that it has come to this. A far cry from my into to international hockey in '87 with the Piestany Punch up and Canada Cup Lemieux Gretzky edition.

I'm about ready to give up on international hockey and just focus on my favorite NHL teams.
