Hockey Canada doesn't like to have 8 defencemen or 14 forwards at this tournament because that leaves players not even on the bench after they committed nearly a month to Hockey Canada. That's what reporters (Friedman specifically I think) have said. They do add players sometimes (last two years notably) but in general it is avoided.

Ya, Hockey Canada answering Connor McDavid's call to go to Paris.

sorry Connor. we'd love to have you in Paris. It would be tremendous to have the world's best player (arguably) in Paris wearing the Maple Leaf, but we'd rather not hurt Travis Konency's feelings.

That's how Hockey Canada likes to roll.

Very sad story:help:

We can probably assume that McDavid would get the Crosby treatment (bumping Schenn in 2015) but it's unlikely that they will add a surplus defenceman or forward unless they are a legitimate difference maker.

I'm not sure what's with the "14th forward" fear. If anyone thinks they will not make room for McDavid and won't slide a player like Konecny to that slot, they have probably a very short memory. :)

I still think Hockey Canada's reaction would be, ya, call us when you score the golden goal at a home Olympics...then maybe we can accommodate you.

no, just kidding. They probably take McDavid to Paris. I can just never pass up an opportunity to stick it to Hockey Canada.

Couturier is trash why did they even pick him

Couturier is a great defensive centre and for a fourth line centre option at this tournament he is absolutely elite. Last time Couturier played this tournament he had 7 points and was not on the ice for a goal against.

There's still some good defencemen out there. Looks like the one left are Seabrook, Keith, Scandella, Spurgeon, Dumba, Giordano, Hamilton, Brodie, Burns, Vlasic, Savard, Rielly. I'm hoping for one of the big ones from Chicago, Calgary, San Jose. I still think we have the top team in the tournament, USA has a good team, but they still have like a few college players and some meh players. Sweden has a strong defence.

These players might not be the top scorers, but I like the way these guys play. Konecny, Point, Killorn are great energy players with speed and hockey sense. 90% of the other forwards are solid two-way players.

Duchene Giroux Mackinnon
O'Reilly Scheifele MARNER
Skinner MCDAVID Point
Killorn Couturier Simmonds
Konecny

Hopefully the 2 kids in caps are added.

Line up would be a treat to watch.

Laughlin backing off what he said earlier. Seems like he clearly made a mistake earlier in what he wrote. Going from saying that Doughty was on the roster and that Doughty had called Hockey Canada to express interest in playing, to just saying that Doughty and Hockey Canada had talked. Not a good look.

Shannon just reported that Patrick Kane is going.

Americans are going to have a good team for the first time ever.

Nope.

In 2008 and 2009 USA have very good team)

The 2008 team had some good names but was never going anywhere with that defence. At least they were able to play on small ice. The 2009 team was just a typical bad American team. To be fair though, the American team this year, even if it does add Kane, could certainly use a top defenceman.

I think USA soon add Verensky and Suter)

2 top D)

A Canada v USA final incoming.

Would be entertaining.

I like Sweden's roster a lot. That defence is far better than what anyone else is bringing. If USA gets Kane, it will be interesting in contrast to Canada. I see Canada with better two way players, USA with the more explosive offence.. Also interested to hear if Kane's (possible) willingness to play this year extends to his Chicago teammates. Toews would be a good add to lead the team, and Keith (though declining as a player) would be a very stabilizing 25 minutes per game on the blueline.

Wouldn't count on that yet, Canadas goaltending doesn't look too strong yet and bad goaltending kills dreams every time. And we still have to see how good this American team comes together, it doesn't always happen.

This dream game could heartbreaking depending on the result, after the WJC this year that would be a must win game for me.

But you're right, the game itself would most likely be great no doubt.
