E.Staal good target for Team Canada)

Eric Staal blew out his knee on a dirty play at the 2013 tournament. Given that and his age, it would be shocking if he participated. I would be very surprised if Hockey Canada even considered asking him.

Agree with you.
But anything can happen.

Seguin and Benn declined invite or no info?

I don't know of any new information. The last thing I saw was their comments in their exit interviews, as posted in this thread, where both said that they would consider it. If they had accepted at this point, we have to assume that someone like Dreger would report it because they are pretty big names. We can guess that they both declined, though I suppose we don't even know if they were invited. It seems strange, but sometimes Hockey Canada doesn't bother to invite some top players (Weber 2013 and I think 2014, Bergeron 2015). I doubt that was the case this year though, since the roster isn't star studded.

Weber and Bergeron win gold medal World Championship)
Logic decision.
This players unmotivated for this tournaments.

Hockey Canada invited both Weber and Bergeron after they first won the tournament, so that doesn't seem likely. They certainly went back to Duchene and O'Reilly this year after back to back championships, and you are asking if they will go with 2015 winner Seguin. The problem with Weber was money - Hockey Canada didn't want to pay for the cost to insure him after he signed his big contract. This was reported at the time. With Bergeron in 2015 he himself speculated that Hockey Canada just wanted to go younger, so they didn't bother inviting him. That was just Bergeron's assumption that he old some reporters though, not a report from anyone.

maybe McDavid will be available after all. Man, did they get smoked last night.

another big game tonight Leafs v Caps. definitely shaping up to be the most entertaining series. big implications for Team Canada/USA/Russia/Sweden hanging in the balance. I wonder if the Caps were to go out, as funny as that would be, I wonder if Holtby would be interested.

I think Dubnyk will be invited)

I don't see that series as particularly big for Canada. Holtby would be a nice add, maybe Alzner. Kadri would be a good addition, maybe Marner. I also don't expect McDavid, but would be pleased enough to be wrong.

I believe Alzner is a UFA, so zero chance he goes in the event the Caps do their annual April locker cleanout.

As for my WHC roster mockups, I always include McDavid, but given the players who have already accepted, there's difficulty in finding a role for Marner. Don't really see him as a 4th line limited minutes type of player, say in the mold of Josh Anderson from CBJ, so 3rd line RW with Mackinnon and Duchene would be a spot is all that's left. If I exclude McDavid, then things open up for Marner, but I'd rather have McDavid than Mitchy Boy.

Kadri is playing like a legit super-star. If he's available, he needs to be on this team. I think that with Scheifele, he's the other guy who has really become a top player this year. The playoffs performance is just simply unbelievable. His line is going against the Washingont's best line and he's still the catalyst of his team offense. He can hit, he can defend, he can create, everything.

I also hope for Marchand or Stone from their series.

You're right about Alzner, and in fact he didn't even play in the most recent game of his series. He's obviously a no. Stupid suggestion on my part.

Marner I was never a fan of, but he has been good for Toronto. The issue is that playmaking wingers don't often have a lot of success for Canada (perhaps because they rarely get the chance, but maybe not) with the playmakers usually playing in the middle. It is hard to find a spot for Marner, but I wouldn't say no to him.

Marchand maybe declined invite
because he play in WCup in Toronto.

Odd inconsistency here, since McDavid was also at that tournament. We don't really know what McDavid's perspective on this event is, but if he wants to play then good for him.

Scandella better then Alzner)

Would much rather Alzner given the makeup of this defence, which could really use a primarily defensive player, but he clearly won't be going anyway.

I like what Kadri has done this year, and I do think that he would be a good addition. He could take a role similar to what Scheifele had last year, a good matchup line to limit the offence of the opposition and contribute a fair amount on its own. With Couturier not getting an invitation (as far as I know) this team may still need a defensive centre. Right now it's hard to say if O'Reilly will take that role, since he has been used on the wing each f the three times he played this tournament.

I think the US will legit have a better team than us this year.

Edit: I just looked at their forwards, and although they have Eichel we are still much more powerful (potentially) upfront, and the defenses are pretty even.

Depending on the next round of additions within the next week or so, it's still a 3 horse race between Canada, the U.S. and the Swedes.

We could easily fall out of the running here if the wrong teams win their opening rd. playoff matchups.

I rather USA over SWE

SWE team very slow
P.S

Russia and Finland will play like garbage.
Very lousy coaching in both teams.

Canada-US final very real in these year.
