Pretty strange choice for the coaching job, kinda weird to have an American behind the bench.

And I guess it's good to add Giroux, I heard he was pretty injured this year, would rather take guys that are healthy and can really move.

I'm a little worried that this team will be hollow, I don't think any of the forwards are real go to guys yet. The Avalanche guys have a lot of questions marks right now, Shief SHOULD be good, but he's not a go to go yet I think, Giroux is hurt, O'Rielly is a really good player, but again, not a game breaker.

Just a strange feeling that this team could struggle.

I believe Scheif is already confirmed.

And Getzlaf too?:)

Getzlaf is currently quite a bit better than Perry. I'm not overly interested in seeing him again though. it is important that Hockey Canada knows when to move on from the vets. Better earlier than later.

Anaheim is not going to lose to Calgary.

edit: Huberdeau says he hasn't decided yet, but has been contacted.

I will be quite disappointed if Huberdeau doesn't go. I know he was injured to start the year, but if he is healthy now then all the more reason to go.

why would drouin not go...??

kid got attitude , is he hurt? does he not like cooper? lol

I've seen Tampa Bay fans indicate that there are issues between Drouin and Cooper, and watching Cooper bench Drouin constantly I can understand why.

I am actually quite surprised by Cooper. I thought that he was under the USA Hockey umbrella, and was actually one of their better coaching candidates for the future. Odd decision to me. I don't really like his in game decisions, but his system is fine.

Surprising if it ends up being true.

Cooper was born and raised in Canada. He's been connected with USA Hockey though, so it is weird.

Pretty pissed at Drouin for not accepting an invite, what's his ****in problem? he better be hurt or the guy is in my bad books.

Can't say that I'm all that trilled about Coach Coop getting the gig. And it has nothing to do with his dual citizenship, I couldn't care less about that nonsense, just never particularly liked his coaching style in Tampa, both on the ice and off. I would have preferred it if HC had given the gig to Gerard Gallant. but anyway, a goaltender that can make a save is more important than any motivational speeches from the tanned cooler than school coach. .

but hey, I wasn't impressed when Peters got the gig last spring. so, what do I know?

If Drouin is not legitimately nursing some injuries, he needs a smack upside the head. Nate needs to give his junior buddy a call and tell him to get onboard.

I am also not impressed with Cooper (pretty talented team to miss the playoffs) but I was also not impressed with Peters last year, who did as you suggest go on to do a very good job. There are a few things with Drouin. Lots of speculation that he doesn't like playing for Cooper in general or has issues with him, and Drouin may also be a guy that just doesn't have a lot of interest in playing internationally. Reading between the lines it seemed like he wasn't too thrilled about the WJC following 2013.

Giroux & Simmonds are going for Canada. Source: Darren Dreger

Brayden Point, too.

I am really surprised that Giroux is going... he should take a rest, but good for him, he's been very loyal towards Team Canada.

I am honestly quite shocked that Giroux is signing on again, he was the odd man out at the World cup and he looked none too happy about it either, was visibly upset IMO.

Impressed as hell with the guy now, i have heard he has been dealing with a nagging injury for most of the season too. Wouldn't mind him being named captain also. Simmonds is a nice pickup too, good player.

Have not gotten to watch Point very much but I like what I've heard Tampa fans say about him and his play.

Nice scoop tade!!

At this point the biggest get we could get before the playoffs would be Benn in my opinion. Obviously Doughty, but clearly he never said what was reported. Once we have a top centerman this team will be stacked.

Still pissed at the original guy who tweeted that.

Pleased about Simmonds. I am quite surprised about Giroux given his snubs from Hockey Canada and some obvious injuries this year, but credit to him. Maybe his fiance really wanted to go to Paris. I considered Giroux Canada's best forward at the 2015 tournament.

Cannot complain about the forwards on this team. Depending on usage the team already has four centres more than qualified for their roles. The key remains defence. Similar to last year the team is lacking a number one defenceman. Last year the team improved significantly when Ellis moved into that role. Burns filled that role very well in 2015. I still think that Nashville and Calgary will be key.

Do you think Subban would go if they get bounced out and is healthy?

A guy like Giordano I have pretty much given up on.

No idea about Subban. I'm not convinced that he will definitely go if available and reasonably healthy. Giordano is a good player, but I don't have much interest in him if there is no worthwhile Olympic tournament going forward. I would rather Brodie or Hamilton. Getting just two of Subban/Ellis/Brodie/Hamilton/Giordano would be massive for this team.
