Pomenranz

That's the best rotation in baseball

I'd honestly go with Price, Sale, Porcello, ERod, Pomeranz

What is Wright really? The guy they got in the first half of the season, or the guy that started struggling before injuring his shoulder?

He's a better candidate for the BP than someone like Buchholz or ERod.

Regardless of what they choose, their top 3 is insane.

Gone are prospects
1. Moncada
3. Kopech
6. Dubon
7. Basbe
21 Cruz
27 Pennington

and Cruz was a guy teams were jacked

Dumbo killing the prospect pool but he's going for it

Wish JBJ and Moncada out but that wasn't happening lol

Great comment, my only issue is that we have 4 lefties now. The Jays lineup are mostly righthanded hitters. Maybe DD will pull another trade with Erod or Pomeranz? We are now stacked with great pitching. Assuming Carson comes back and adding Thornburg, giving Kelly a full year out of the pen, we are loaded. Workman may also be able to contribute. We still have Johnson and Owens in AAA too, wouldn't mind DD trading these guys for some decent A or AA prospects to replenish our system.

What's gonna happen with Buchholz?

The question isn't about Buchholz. He was already going to be the longman/emergency starter. I think he showed himself well in the 2nd half last year, being able to switch back and forth. The question is more about E-Rod/Wright/Pomeranz. Will one be traded? Will Pomeranz become the reliever we badly need?

Shaw, Moncada (1), Kopech (5), Basabe (7), Dubon (9), Diaz (21), Pennington (27) out
Sale and Thornburg in.

That is a win for Dombrowski and the Sox no matter how you want to spin it.

I get people love prospects, but in this case they were used EXACTLY for what they needed to be used for. Aside from Moncada and Kopech the rest of the lot were either blocked, or years away.

4 lefty starters and a bullpen of all righties. Moving Pomeranz to the bullpen would fix that, but is that the best use of Pomeranz? I don't know.

Gotta imagine that's the plan right?

You can now comfortably move 2 of Clay, EdRod, Pomeranz, Wright. Could probably move Price or Porcello if you really wanted to. They've got some talent they can now use to try to replace some of what they've given up.

For both good and bad, Dave Dombrowski is exactly who we thought he was.

I don't hate this deal per se (50/50), but personally I hate Chris Sale, and I worry about his personality and playing in Boston.

We sold high on pretty much all of them. Including Shaw. Maybe not Diaz and Pennington.

Yeah, they'll go with the best pitchers at the time for the 4/5 spots. I think Pomenranz will be one of those guy, with the final spot being interchangeable. Someone is going to get hurt, suck, etc etc in which case, it's the next guy's turn; The depth is fantastic.

Sale, Price, and Porcello combined for 11 complete games last year. Three war horses who are all legit number 1 starters... I love it.

I wouldn't say comfortably 2. If you move 2, who's your 6th starter? Owens?

Wright is the true wild card in all of this. Like I said above, which version are they getting, and which version is Wright actually going forward? If he's anything close to the guy they had in the first half, he's in your rotation. if he isn't, I don't know if he even has a place on the team to be honest.

As much as I think having Pomeranz in the 4 or 5 slot would benefit the Sox (and him) and create a mismatch in terms of pitching matchups, I definitely think he's actually BP arm if they choose to go down that path. Buchholz is definitely the long man/6th starter.

I am just happy we kept benintendi over moncada. Not saying moncada is overrated or anything like that. But i'd be lying if i said what i saw from him wasn't concerning. I am with dealing him for a top proven guy.

I highly doubt they traded away top guys for Sale, to then go around and flip a Price or Porcello. Especially Price considering the down year.

Completely agree, that rotation should be dominant with a plus bullpen behind it. Still plenty of power in lineup as well. Encarnacion would just make it even better.

I know they wanted to stay under the luxury cap. Although Sale is on a great deal, wouldn't this put them close to it? I'd have to look at the numbers. While they're likely to move more pieces to cut salary, it sucks they're so close to the cap. EE seems like the logical final piece to complete this team.

Love these deals Shaw I doubt will ever be anything more than he is, don't know much about Cruz, Dubon or Pennington. Basabe could be a ways down the road he is a few years away, Kopech has potential to be very good if he can put his troubles behind him, Moncada though for some reason I don't feel he ever becomes what they say his potential is.

As for the players we got back Thornburg is a great bullpen addition and if we can get Smith back healthy that has the makings of a dominant BP. Kimbrell, Thornburg, Smith, Kelly, Bucholz, Ross JR, Wright, possibly Ziegler and/or Koji back wow!

The rotation holy cow if they stay healthy and pitch to their potential they will be the best rotation in the majors: Sale, Porcello, Price, Rodriquez, Pomeranz.

Move Bucholtz, frees 14.5, 6-7 more signs Encarnacion and they would be under or close to cap.
