I disagree with their judgment of the Final quality between the Kings and Devils. The Devils were their own competing cinderella team coming out of the east. You essentially had two teams with no business being in the final playing in the final. If the Devils won, they would have made the list.
While Games 1&2 went to OT and the Devils were the only team to last at least six games with the 2012 team, they still went down 3-0 to start the series. While we were definitely sweating it once they won Games 4&5, most everyone else in the hockey world had already handed the Cup to the Kings. The blow-out in Game 6 doesn't help anyone remember that the series was kind of close.
Toss in the Devils being synonymous with curing sleep disorders and the Kings being known as a "boring" team--even though they weren't in 2012--I can understand the claim being made now five years later.
2010 - First title for Chicago in decades when nobody was tired of them yet. Also beat a marquee franchise in Philly to do so. More buzz than 2012 for sure.
2011 - Canuck meltdown. 7 game series. Better than 2012.
2013 - Insane Game 6 win in Boston for Chicago's 2nd Cup. O6 teams.
2014 - Only five games but still better than 2012. More marquee names, Ranger factor added in.
2015 - Didn't really watch. Can't comment except for, well, Chicago being in it automatically makes it better, right?
2016 - Didn't watch much but the two teams play more "exciting" hockey than NJ/LA in 2012 and Crosby was in it so I guess it was better?
Of course, he gives low marks to the QoC under an incorrect theory that the Kings were so good that it didn't matter that they went through the 1,2,3 seeds to get there. You can also talk analytics in 2017 but you can't revise history and make it sound like everyone was picking LA from the 8-hole due to awesome CF%. That didn't become a big thing until wanting to explain the Kings dominance as opposed to predicting it.
I agree that Edmonton in '06 was more shocking due to simply getting past Detroit. I understand Calgary as well but they had a good amount of buzz heading into that playoffs as I remember laying $200 or so on them to take Game 1 in Vancouver (Pretty sure they lost Game 1 but they did take the series, obviously). Still though, a lot of revisionist history regarding the 2012 Kings...nobody was picking them to beat Vancouver even with the Sedin concussion.
