Thanks for the update on Gaborik.

Any news about Toffoli's contract negotiations? I'm not seeing much on news and hockey sites but I don't check social media.

Since UFAs don't seem to like the west coast, don't see why we need the cap room at the expense of our 1st since we also don't have the assets to acquire a lot via trade.

I mean maybe if they can somehow trade Muzzin/Martinez + for the 3rd without Dallas taking the 11th. But even then I'd rather keep 3 and 11 and just restock the pipeline.

Would any of you guys give up our first this year to get rid of Brown/Gaborik contract?

In a NY minute. Kings should try to get a 2nd or at least a 3rd back in return though. There is no sure fire pick at 11 and the odds of that pick helping the kings in the remaining window are probably nil. You don't use the cap space to overpay UFA's but create room for hockey trades. With the expansion there should be lots of players on the move this year. Get a real top 4 right-handed D or 3rd line center. Overpay in picks if you have to.

Vegas might do it because someone needs to lead that rabble (that doesn't want to be there) coming in. Brown automatically livens up the matches with the Pacific and his contract is a non factor since they won't be a contender till long past its end.

Kings are on a short stack and they have to play higher risk hands before the blinds (father time) eats them alive. Or, "its better to burn out than it is to rust."

Cue the "Kings are already rusted out..."

Thought this was like the perfect tweet in response to the Vegas 'dumps.' Also great for this forum to see 1. How many 'bad' contracts there are around the league and 2. How many teams are going to be disappointed Vegas isn't rushing to their rescue:

Yeah, the NHL's biggest problem with money/salaries--even going back to the first lockout--isn't big money for big guys, it's inflated money for the middle class.

...or big money for a "superstar" who is really just upper middle class.

LTIR might make Gaborik more valuable actually (assuming he is placed on it which sounds like a possibility):)

I would get rid of Brown if Vegas would take him.

You could restock with some talent by simply having cap space and "helping out" other teams near the cap. Chicago certainly helped out a number of teams due to their cap issues.

Got the Doughty contract discussions to think about as well. They will start pretty soon.

No one in the Kings organization has mentioned Gaborik going on LTIR. They have only said he won't be ready for training camp.

Thanks for the update.

That sucks about breaking talks off for now. Since neither side seems to be concerned, I won't over think it and panic.

A pretty good article with some comparable players that lead you to believe that he should be in the $4.75M to $5.25M range on a 4-6 year deal.

It was okay, not a standout article and I get he picked 3 forwards to suit the needs of his point. But I totally disagree with his contention that a winger is a complimentary piece because they're not a center. Some of the best players in the game are wingers and they win games for their team rs and post season.

ANd Brisson doesn't negotiate. If he wants 6M, he'll stand on it. or go to arbitration and get a 1 yr deal. His quote below points out he is going to use the injury as the reason (which I agree with ) his production fell off. So maybe the best path forward is a 1 or 2 yr deal

https://www.fanragsports.com/nhl/la-kings/tyler-toffolis-rough-season-hurt-wallet/

"Tyler this year played on one leg, literally. He was hurt,” Brisson told Sirius XM’s NHL Network this week. “He missed (19) games, and I would say, honestly, I think he played probably another 20 on one leg, so, yeah, he had a little drop in his production as well as other players on the team, but he’s a true offensive threat out there. He’s a 25- to 35-goal scorer and still young, so he’s in a great position.”

This article presents some good points (supporting the don't overpay) but pointing out that Brisson is well aware of how valuable TT is to the Kings. And it might mean that he'll sign for a short term, and get the bigger contract later.

I'm fine with giving Toffoli a one or two year deal. If he is a $6M player, show us.

The time to get him on a 7 or 8 year deal has past in my opinion. Should have happened during Toffoli's last contract negotiation.

Yes it should have but DL said because of the other contracts, he couldn't give TT what he wanted. So they did the bridge.
I think that show me contract will be the contact they agree on, Brisson doesn't bend.
But if TT has two really strong seasons, that new deal will come with DD's potential contract.
And that's a lot dough.

Brisson also represents the Habs Galchenuyuk, who like TT is coming off a 2 yr bridge

“We won’t say no to a one-year contract either. We’ll continue studying Galchenyuk’s case and we’ll look at what he can get in arbitration.”

Pretty lackluster season, 16 goals and 34 points, even if playing on one leg 20 games.

5 million tops. if he gets 6 million, time to start fielding offers for Doughty now. Since
no one would take Kopi. Trading DD wouldn't be the worst thing ever. The return would be substantial. Not saying I would wan to do that, but that's where all this is headed,
if TT gets 6. He's really not worth THAT much more than Pearson. 5 tops.

The Kopi, Brown and Gabby contracts are killers.

But I totally disagree with his contention that a winger is a complimentary piece because they're not a center. Some of the best players in the game are wingers and they win games for their team rs and post season.

If you have a choice between the two though, and all things being equal, you're probably picking the center. The winger, especially a goal scoring one, is important, but he is a luxury. It's like WR's in the NFL. You need talented ones, but if you don't have the QB, and maybe even more importantly at least a half way decent O-line, what's a great WR going to do for you?

The thing with the Kings is, as we've said for years now, they already have $14.5m taken up by 3 wingers, so it'll probably be around $20m for 4 by the time Toffoli signs. That's not an objective problem, but the issue is, as we've said for years now, the lack of production from Gaborik and Brown. The lack of production from Brown to start with made Lombardi get Gaborik. Then Gaborik had to go and put up so many goals in the playoffs that Lombardi felt a need to keep him. At the time, the Kings had the most important bases covered, so they could afford the luxury. Now they're missing some of that depth, and the luxury car is high maintenance.

I'm trying to think of how many wingers out there make their centers look better. Patrick Kane is one of those wingers who is capable of making his linemates look better because of his passing ability. Karlsson is a defenseman who is capable of doing that as well.

Toffoli seems more like a winger who needs a center to set him up. He was pretty inept offensively last season as an individual. His go-to move was to put a weak ass shot on net every time he crossed the blueline. One great season isn't enough to justify a price tag of $5M+.

Brisson is a tough negotiator, but he's not an ass like some other agents. He understands value and knows what is fair for his players. Not sweating a terrible deal for the Kings here.
