Some of the highlights of Kings fighters and good fight games...

Sep 30, 2005 was a great game. Ken Belanger had 3 fights - Brennan. Marshall, and Moen. Then the main event was Flinn vs Brennan (two old pals).

Two weeks earlier was another great game - Belanger vs. Marshall, Fedourk vs. Parros and Kostopolous vs. O'Brien.

I started following the Kings in 1992. Marty McSorley was by far the Kings Enforcer of all time. I would say Stu Grimson was the close 2nd and that was only because he was here for one year.

All the other guys had problems....Marc Potvin, god rest his soul had his own demons, Warren Rychel was a terrible fighter and couldn't take the load when Marty left. Steve McKenna was terrible as a Kings enforcer and decent when he went elsewhere. Matt Johnson came in with a lot of hype and same thing as McKenna, he went on and became more established in Minny. Actually became one of the top dogs. Ken Belanger didn't want the job and barely fought, he has admitted he hated fighting. Parros had horrible balance and was scared to get hit, then succeeded when he went to Anaheim. Ryan Flinn was tough and willing but a horrible hockey player and that concussion at the hands of Vandemeer seemed to end his NHL career. Brennan barely last here, was more than willing, but I think Andrew Peters really pounded him in one of the best fights I've seen. He bounced around after that. Westgarth, he could barely play under Sutter and really only played parts of a few NHL seasons. Raitis Ivanans would be my #3 pick behind McSorley and Grimson. He had 4 good seasons as the Kings enforcer.

Good times in this thread. I wore #22 for my old guys trying to play hockey team for years because of Lappy. The origin of my screen name as a matter of fact.

Not sure what your cut off year is for ranking Kings enforcers, but Baumgartner ahead of Ivanans for me and did more as a King than Grimson did, although Grimson did have a great enforcing season his one year here. Baumgartner had 52 fights as a King in 101 total games, including playoffs. Ivanans had 61 in 276 games with a lot of draws included...Bomber was fighting Probert and playing in a crazier era. Jay Wells was no joke either, although he could play.

Dan Maloney had a rep in the 70s as perhaps the toughest fighter in the league. I haven't seen the tape of him but I heard stories.

Crazy to look back and see Ivanans played that much for the Kings. Some bad teams going on there!

The 80's had some beasts. Tiger Williams, Syko Sykes, Wells.

Have we had any hints or updates about who is being brought in as assistant/ offense coaches? Seems like its been quite a while since Stevens was announced, he must have some idea who he wants by now.

I guess Mike Stothers interviewed for a position, but opted to stay with Ontario, more candidates will be interviewed in the coming days.

Hoven reported a couple weeks ago that STothers will be interviewed. He also said the Kings will go 4F and 4D on the protected list. TT will get in the neighborhood of 5.5 M, Trades are coming, Gabby can't be bought out because he's in IR and that will affect their CAP and who gets traded .

Snippets...

Forwards:
Given that scoring was such an issue for the Kings last season, it’s hard to figure that it will get better by simply maintaining the status quo. They could seek out a free agent like T.J. Oshie, Alexander Radulov, Patrick Sharp or Justin Williams (fond memories and all), or they could go bigger and bolder, with a trade for a skilled young forward. A couple of the names that come to mind are Jonathan Drouin, from Tampa Bay, or Alex Galchenyuk, from Montreal. They won’t necessarily come cheaply, but they are young enough to be part of the long-term solution.

An aging star like Jaromir Jagr or, potentially a deal for Ilya Kovalchuk, should at least be considered by a team desperate for more goals.

Defense:
Could the Kings go looking for help on the blueline? It’s probably not necessary if they keep Muzzin, but if we accept my premise that he could be moved, then there might be some desire for Los Angeles to wade into the free agent pool. If they do go looking for a free agent defencemen, it will probably be a more economical choice, maybe Brian Campbell, Brendan Smith or Matt Hunwick, and not Kevin Shattenkirk.

Goaltending:
Maybe the Kings would be willing to try Zatkoff in the backup role again, but if not, Anders Nilsson, Chad Johnson or Mike Condon would be among the free agent goaltenders that are quality backups who might be able to handle a starter’s workload in the event of injury. There will probably be some that come available via trade too, so if the Kings want a strong backup behind Quick, there will be ways to get one.

Prospects:
The Kings don’t have a strong group of prospects. Beyond Adrian Kempe and Kale Clague, a lot of them are 22-to-24-years-old, an age range which does not typically provide high-end prospects.

Seems to reiterate what some of us have been saying about their lack of legit prospects...

Hey guys, Habs fan coming in peace.

Just wanted to see where you guys see this team going? Will they keep pushing forward in win-now mode, do a mini re-tool, or even a full scale blowup?

Habs fans would be most interested in vets like Carter and Muzzin. Are these guys anywhere close to the block? What kind of pieces would you be looking for in return?

With Kopitar, Quick, Carter and Doughty still around, the safe assumption is that they'll continue to try to win while also not making any desperation moves like trading for another Lucic or Sekera or Bishop.

Guessing they'll be looking for a winger or two and maybe another veteran defenseman and backup goalie.

Muzzin or Martinez may be moved for a forward in a trade, which would make it all the more likely that the Kings look to add another top 4 dman via free agency, but at a reasonable cost.

It seems like Muzzin and/or Martinez is on the block for the right piece. I don't see Carter going anywhere as of right now. He and Pearson were the only ones scoring all season.

After we suckered you to take Dwight King, you're back for round 2?!

Kings need to flip Martinez + for a RHD, the team simply can't go with Amart on the right side in a top 4 role again. I really want Muzzin back with DD and a Voynov type to play with Forbort.

Ha yeah he really didn't fit with our skating system. Not a fast guy.

I could see interest in Martinez or Muzzin but I don't know that we'd have the pieces to make that trade. Or if we do we wouldn't likely want to part with them. If it's meant to be roster player for roster player I don't see a great fit. If you were looking for picks and/or prospects then it's possible.

The Wild may be looking to move Dumba due to the draft. Blake may be able to bid on someone exposed (thru McPhee) but he has to move salary somehow.

Dumba is horrid, no defensive IQ at all. I watched a lot of Wild games and Dumba causes more grief on their goalies then the rest of the team combined.

I like the Winnipeg route as well. they need LHD and we need RHD. should make good partners.

That doesn't seem to be the consensus on the Wild board.
