I remember when Buchberger got beat by Joe Thornton and Anson Carter. I guess it benefitted the team more to take them off the ice, and Kelly was always willing to eat punches to do that.

I won't forget Tocchet pummeling him when he was a King, and yet another Deadmarsh like "heart and soul" leader who'd stand up for his teammates, pummel opponents, and could put the puck in the net.

Speaking of punching bags, Doug Zmolek sure took a lot of beatings. His losses to Brashear and Langdon are among the worst beatings I've seen a Kings player take.

Sigh... this team could really use a leader like Deadmarsh. Short lived career here, but he is still fondly remembered to this day. Ian Laperriere was another unselfish player who sacrificed his body for his team. Kelly Buchberger as well, despite being a punching bag.

and a 2012 Mike Richards...I really miss that guy.

The last time I saw a guy step up for his teamate was Richards. it was a game against dallas and one of the dallas player checked Kopitar and knocked him out of the game. Richards, immediately dropped the gloves.

Richards stepped in and fought Doan in the first game against them following the 2012 series after he took a huge run at Brown. Also fought a guy on the Wild who took a big run at Kopitar.

Tkachuk really exposed this team's lack of toughness and buy-in to each other. I'm very pleased to hear Management speak negatively about how the Kings reacted.

So explain to me why so many posters hate the Lucic trade again? Such a schizophrenic board.

Because they couldn't keep him and blew away lots of assets for a rental who would've been impossible to retain. And the team wasn't anywhere near Cup contention given the holes the team already had in their lineup both prior to and after Lucic's arrival.

Wow great stuff on this thread.

BigKing do you have an training camp fights on tape? I heard there were scraps between Nolan/Clifford and Parros/Brennan over the years.

You didnt ask me but......

I do not believe Parros and Brennan ever fought. Lappy and Brennan did fight, however.

I thought they put an end to teammates fighting each other though and never heard of Nolan and Clifford going at it.

If I remember right, that dude had at least 6 inches and 30+ pounds on Richards too

I think Brennan also fought Jimmy Verdule.

Did the same thing against Phoenix.

This current roster is nutless.

Doug Zmolek is and was awesome. If you see a guy with a Zmolek jersey at a Kings game, it is most likely me or the one other guy that has one. Was able to take a real beating until the Brashear concussion which was due to him hitting him the back of his head on the ice. Prior to that, man he could take a lot of punches. The Langdon one you mentioned stands out...even took one to the throat and didn't go down.

Hate the trade, don't hate the player. I also think we got Lucic-lite. Rarely fought and, when he did, it was usually on the road. Feel like he wasn't full Lucic on the physical side of things since he had UFA status approaching. The problem with the trade is only having him for one season and knowing that was a very real possibility.

Utah-

As far as TC goes, I've got:

98-99 I think Podollan v. some camp body...Something Roy? Recorded it at Iceoplex. I've got Ryan Flinn v. some camp body during rookie camp (Flinn drops him in a total mismatch). Also have Parros fighting I think Brennan and maybe someone else, or they went 2x? Haven't watched in awhile but Parros looked horrible, like, you wouldn't believe this guy became the fighter he ultimately became. Real awkward.

I can't remember what year it was but AM was still the coach. Training camp started to be a big thing as far as attendance goes so it became an event. With events comes security and a new policy of no video cameras so I stopped going and haven't been back so I have nothing on current roster players. Never heard of a Clifford/Nolan scrap.

I do have the fights from the last game at the Forum against the Ducks. Snuck a camcorder in and was able to capture the fun.

Edit- Reaper with the big pull on Jimmy Verdule. That is the guy Flinn dropped in the rookie camp. This was when Flinn was still riding high on the big rep as a monster.

Although Ziggy got rag dolled around by Blake, I love that he got right back up and didn't shy away. He never tried to sell a call or act hurt, and you also have to credit Blake for performing like the best defenseman in the NHL during Colorado's Cup run. He scored a bunch of big goals for the Avs, including a nice breakaway goal against Brodeur during the Cup Final.

It was Lombardi taking one last shot before Kopitar's new deal. 14-15 was probably their last best chance, while they still had those leaders we all miss now, and Gaborik had a really good year. Voynov was gone before November, and they were terrible in 4v4 OT though. 15-16 was one more time before a cap crunch.

Those were fun Kings teams. The 00-01 team that finished the season was such a ramshackle duct tapped model airplane of a team. An older Robitaille, a re-acquired Stumpel, an older Euro draft pick in Visnovsky, Potvin from the scrapheap, Boucher coming back from the wilderness, Schneider as a free agent. A couple injuries to the Wings helped, but going into Detroit and winning Game 5, and never dying against the Avs. That Deadmarsh goal that won the Detroit series, still the most perfect goal I've ever seen. All 5 guys touched the puck, bang bang bang up the ice, Stumpel couldn't have shot the puck better, Palffy couldn't drive the middle better, Deadmarsh couldn't be in a more perfect spot for the rebound.

...and Federov couldn't have back-checked any slower ;)

Pretty sure you're right and it was Flinn and Verdule. God hard to believe the Kings used to have a wealth of legit heavies around, Grimson, they drafted McGrattan, Belanger, Flinn, Brennan, Norton, Parros etc etc.

I zoomed in on Verdule in the box...real sad look on his face and was rubbing his jaw.

Flinn's rep was gigantic for a period there. Huge KO of Brad Brown for his first fight and then breaks Parker's nose. Crazy it all ended at the hands of Jim Vandermeer of all people.

Flinn's head hitting the ice is what did it. I remember being at the game, the crowd went dead silent as soon as we saw Flinn go down and lay motionless on the ice. Very scary incident.

True, but he got handled in the fight as well, which was surprising.

Exploded on the scene at Staples with the Brown KO, exited the scene on the opposite end. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Easily one of the worst moments at Staples since I've had seats. I can't actually recall too many stretcher incidents off the top of my head since the '02 season.

Remember Richards fighting Hanzal too. Yeah, Hanzal isn't exactly a tough guy, but holy ****ing David vs. Goliath...
