Kings give Vegas a pick to take Clifford

Mayor had an interesting writeup today about 'the missing ingredient' and it's basically everything we've discussed around here, especially how little they stood up for one another--so if nothing else, that's yet one more thing that current management acknowledges as a problem to fix. I'm starting to love this. I know it's all talk so far and little action, but at least their evaluation jives with a lot of what we're seeing.

Yep, great points. Once Washington starts their cycle they get Pittsburgh in trouble. They're just having a ton of problems starting that cycle. Aren't the Kings 3-1 against them the last 2 seasons?

Even in the games we've lost to them in the last few years, I can think of 4-5 off the top of my head where we were absolutely taking it to them, and they just popped in their few scoring chances because of a break or uber skill. Thats just how they work with the high end talent. But it also shows how weak their d is at actually defending.

From June 2008 to July 2009, the Kings added Doughty, Stoll, Greene, Williams, and Scuderi.

From June 2014 to July 2015, the Kings lost Mitchell, Voynov, Richards, Williams, Stoll, and Regehr.

So bye bye Clifford? Yeah he fought but he didn't really stand up for anyone. I mean who else's feet can you lay that at?

The sad thing is the article states that the only guys who manned up were Iginla and Clifford. I would take Iggy on a one year deal.

Been saying that about Iggy since before the end of the season. He replaces some of the heart and soul we've lost since the departures of Williams and Richards. If he would do a 1 year deal on a minimum amount of salary, I would bring him back in a second.

It doesnt solve our scoring issues, it does help with our leadership and character issues.

That was a good article by Hoven. Pretty spot on.

Absolutely bring him back. Maybe that's what's missing, someone to show the new leaders what to do. I think Carter was the only captain who got it, the other 2 looked lost , especially Kopitar.

The question mark is left for Gabby should he ever come off IR, right?

And I don't think you'll see Campbell as the back up, they will probably get an experience guy not named Zatkoff.

God I hope not. Campbell has been a stud all year for the Reign.

Hopefully he gets his shot.

I'd be completely shocked if Blake doesn't go out and get a veteran backup goaltender, perhaps even a pretty good one. Quick is on the wrong side of 30 and has had some injury issues.

I just left Gabby off due to injury, hoping they can deal Amart for a winger, even if just for a guy with some bite. Comments over the past month about Muzzin still make me think LA is high on him and that they believe he had an off year.

I say give Campbell a chance, he will be cheap and free up more cap space.

If he doesn't have a good showing or Blake has no faith...

I wouldn't be shocked to see R. Miller in LA next year if a cheap deal can be worked out.

IMO that was DL's biggest blunder last year, he just gave games away by not replacing Zatkoff for -- virtually anyone.

Campbell should get a shot as backup. His cheap salary will allow us to spend elsewhere. Use a pick this year or next to get our next goalie.

You don't show leaders what to do, that comes from within. That why there are leaders and followers. Guys in Juniors who are leaders never lost that as they move up.

Wait a second...so Management thinks that the Kings "response" to the Calgary situation was pathetic? Strange that so many on here were fine with it.

This team still had enough talent on it last season to make the playoffs. Their response to the elbow during the first game, the response in the next game and then the complete "who-gives-a-****" attitude of the following game in LA is all you need to know about why this team sucks: it's because they aren't a team, or at least don't act like one.

Easy to decipher that article and the comments from Management as "Hey Kopitar....figure it the **** out, Mr. $14MM".

Also, I will be surprised if Clifford is not on the team next year. I'll keep beating the drum that he isn't just a "Lombardi Guy" but everyone loves him. Maybe they will have to get rid of him because of his salary, but I think they will try to keep him because, again, he's been this team's fighter since he first broke in: Nolan and Andreoff have never been the go to guy in this regard.

Hearing NYR will sign Min-Duluth free agent D Neal Pionk. That's a coup for them, was a lot of interest.

Kings were pushing hard on Pionk until very end. Now that they're out, look for LA to announce Oscar Fantenberg deal soon (see 4/21 tweet).

Losing out on an NCAA UFA to an eastern team? Mind blown!

What is interesting is the tweet makes it sound like Fantenberg was contingent on missing out on Pionk. You'd think Fantenberg would have other offers if he is any good.

At the same time, if you're upset with how this team does or doesn't stand up for one another, doesn't that show some unhappiness with the teams resident tough guy? I mean the Kings response to the Calgary situation WAS pathetic and it all starts with Clifford. Yeah hes a team guy but he didnt do enough, hell he didnt do anything. His stern lecture to Tkachuk ended it for me with him.

Honestly, I think they felt it was handled after the McNabb fight as far as Tkachuk goes. Then they hit Kopitar, Iginla immediately responds and they go on to play some of their better hockey of the season--or at least the end of the season--for the rest of the game.

The main issue is not doing anything immediately after the elbow in the first place and then not even sneezing in Tkachuk's direction the rest of the game. So Tkachuk answers the bell by fighting McNabb and these guys decide it is settled as far as fighting him goes. Then he takes the huge run at Doughty and nothing of consequence happens as the Kings still have playoff hopes at that point, although Andreoff half-assed his way to a game misconduct.

So, for me, it is not settled as Tkachuk wants to keep picking the scab. Sets up for a home game where the Kings are already eliminated. Sutter scratches Clifford so Clifford doesn't even get a chance to do anything.

Andreoff played in that game though, I guess. I see a number under "GP" on his stat page but it is hard to recall him actually doing anything this season. I'm not sure anyone showed up on LA that night. Perfect time to just go full hog on Tkachuk and a division rival and the whole team mailed it in because they don't care enough about each other.

It's hard for me to get upset at Clifford for not fighting Tkachuk because, well, Tkachuk won't fight him anyways and the Kings were trying to win the game. I have no patience for what happened immediately following the elbow because--while they were still trying to win--every player on the ice should just lose their mind right there and riot. Very disappointed in giant Forbort not jumping Tkachuk at that moment.

I also didn't like Andreoff clowning his way to putting the Kings shorthanded on two occasions while getting thrown out while never even throwing a punch. The run on Doughty should of caused a riot in the moment. They did the old park and ride though: hope that **** is over with as far as retribution and physical play goes.

Would Clifford have done anything in Game 80 at home against Calgary? Probably not, but I can't hold it against him since he didn't play. Andreoff did play in that game though and had a chance to do something and did squat, just like his zero goals scored this season.

This team has problems but Clifford still stood up for this team on multiple occasions, just like he has for years. I'll give AA a little benefit of the doubt of being neutered by Sutter hockey (very few brawls and revenge things during Sutter's tenure...park and ride), but that has to be applied to Clifford then as well since he had the same coach.

If you are done with Clifford for any reason other than contract, then you have to be done with Andreoff and Nolan as well since he does the job better than both of these guys. If so, that's fair. I just don't believe the Clifford "replacement" is currently on the roster.
