A troubling trend I keep seeing quoted from supposed Kings leaders (IE) Doughty/Kopitar, is that the Kings need some leadership.

Uhhh what ?

I was about to say, shouldn't Doughty be looking at himself as a leader? Seems like he's still a bit immature in that regard and should take more responsibility, you know, like Karlsson.

How many times does there have to be a Karlsson thread on the main board?

Next thread is going to be: "How big is Erik Karlsson's...?"

Use your imagination, that could mean anything! :naughty:

NHL Network: Do the Kings make the playoffs?
Bill Lindsay:Ha ha ha ha,not happening, not even close! "

He painted such a gloomy picture of the Kings making them sound like the Avs with no hope now or in the future.:shakehead

This was right after Jon Rosen outlined what it will take for the Kings to improve.

No one on the current roster exudes leadership like guys like Mitchell, Richards, Greene, Stoll, and even Williams did. Those guys always appeared calm and in control, which made players around them more comfortable. There is some decent leadership, but guys like Carter, Kopitar, and Doughty just don't have that. IMO, Brown is the still the best leader this team has, but he was a lead by example guy. Once that fearless part of his game went south, things changed for him.

Sadly, the captaincy change exposed the lack of leadership this team has at the present time. It's not unlike the Ducks, where you have a few decent leaders like Getzlaf, Perry, and Kesler, but they don't have the same effect on their teammates like Pronger, Niedermayer, and Selanne had.

It's a trade-off that goes along with bringing in younger players.

Unfortunately, Doughty's comment regarding grit and leadership is not that surprising.

Doughty might want to demonstrate some of his own grit and leadership from time to time, and stick up for himself once in a while.

Yeah Doughty Sucks!

Yeah Doughty Sucks!

Nobody said that. It's okay to be critical of a player who is supposed to be viewed as a leader. I don't get why so many fans become so defensive and overreactionary over completely rational and just points. Doughty himself said that he was disappointed in himself last season and that he needs to be better. He also needs to learn to be a better leader.

Doughty has screamed a fair bit on the ice, but never really screamed "leader."

Its actually not rational at all to suggest that doughty never sticks up for himself and doesn't display any grit or leadership. But carry on...

Doughty runs his mouth a lot, and likes to back it up with his play, which is fine.

Every once in a while though a guy who talks as much as he does is going to have to step up when an opponent takes liberties with him. If Sidney Crosby can do it, Drew Doughty can do it.

Drew Doughty needs to fight more. Hot take!

He needs to stop saying things like "we lack leadership" when he's considered one of the leaders of the team. That's a sign of immaturity and a lack of accountability.

Fine. But last thing i want to see is Doughty fighting... That sounds like a really dumb idea.

Doughty doesn't have to fight necessarily, but there wasn't anything stopping him from taking some runs at Tkuchuk, or another Calgary player.

Doughty has shown he can be a physical defenseman, why does he think he needs a player like Prust to provide some grit and leadership? Where is Doughty's grit and leadership? Is Doughty too good to get his hands dirty once in a while?

Yeah hes probably one of the most physical defenseman in the league. Fighting is a bad idea, but i know there are fans like you that really like it.

I remember how firey Doughty was in that playoff series against Vancouver in 2010. Very hot headed, jawing with the Canucks bench, mucking things up. Back then he would have gone after a player like Tkachuk.

Things have changed now. He's more mature and a different player/person than he was.

The Kings also aren't playing with much emotion and hunger anymore and there's a cumulative affect on all the players. They look tired and bored half the time.

And that moron Craig Button slammed DL for the Carter/JJ trade. Guess that's why no one will ever hire him front a front office job ever again.
Will the Kings make the playoffs? Who knows. But to be definitive in August makes no sense.

You want Doughty off the ice for 5 minutes in the middle of a playoff race? Tkachuk would be doing his job if he somehow got Doughty to fight him. In theory we have guys to take care of guys like Tkachuk. If the game was in November that's probably a different story.

Sticking up for yourself doesn't have to be dropping the gloves. And DOughty should have gone after Tkachuk and drilled him on the next shift. He's not a 18 yr old rookie. Standing up for yourself or a teammate after a situation like that, is exactly what a leader does. It's part of the glue that binds a team. You really don't want to be known as a team who gets pushed around.
And it's been lacking on the Kings for a awhile.

So what. NHL Network, TSN, Sportsnet, ESPN, etc. , dozens of 'analysts' predicting stuff. How many of those 'experts' pick the Caps to win the Cup over the last 8 or 9 years? There are some who I think are very good, who I put a lot of stock in, Bob McKenzie, Pierre Le Brun and Elliotte Friedman would be in that group with Darren Dreger right after. There are others that are pretty good hockey analysts, but Bill Lindsay, nope. He's seen his share of games as the panthers color guy, but I'm not sure that make him an expert on the Kings situation.

Sometimes displaying a little emotion goes a long way for a hockey team.

I don't think Doughty has to fight Tkachuk to make a point. He simply could have made a point of hitting him later in the game, but I wouldn't mind if he fought him either.

There was no response from any of the Kings, including Doughty.

You really don't pay much attention. I am not a big advocate of fighting for the sake of fighting.
