2017 Offseason Thread 4.0 - Free Agent Frenzy Time

Didn't Jokinen and Kopitar play together during a young all star game or something many years ago? Or regular all star game? If I recall, they had good chemistry.

Something doesn't add up though because Jussi is 34 and Kopitar is 29.

he's going against it:

Fantenberg 25 yrs old = 3 time Team Sweden Worlds, Allstar KHL
Iafallo = 23 years old. 51 pts 12th in nation. exceptional speed
Imama = 20 yrs old 6'1" 220 40 goals QMJHL. May be > Clifford, Nolan in a yr or 2
Peterson 22 - a top goalie in NCAA. made TEAM USA 2017 WORLDS. Best goalie brought in since Jones.

All 4 for nothing. No guarantees with any, but all have considerable upside.

Best draft in years. Cannot credit Blake, but credit him for NOT dealing the #11
before draft.

If he signs 38 yr old Thornton, a great move. Don't see him signing more than one 33+ yr old.

It's debatable. Thornton is coming off knee surgery. Anything more than two years is an unnecessary risk.
 
With all the buy-outs, there's a lot more dumpster diving opportunities in free agency now.

I think if DL was still here, he'd pursue Hartnell.

I thought being slow was a thing in the past. We need more Kempes and less Hartnells. Atleast Thornton is a legit playmaker, even at his age; something we've lacked since *barf* Jason Allison.

I dont see how we have lacked one since allison, there are two pretty big franchise events inbetween no?

Hoven made me cringe in those roundtables when he was trumpeting that Paul LaDue not only would be a top 4 D, but doubled down when pressed and added LaDue already was one. His takes can indeed be beyond the moon sometimes.

Makes you wonder about the prospect analyses he and his do.

I think Richards was a pretty good playmaker.

Goalie market: there is a lot of expectation of Ryan Miller to Anaheim for approximately $1 million, although I’m not sure if bonuses will be added to that.

If that's true, we should try to get him. $1 million is nothing, he could be solid as a 25-game backup. Zatkoff makes 900K and may be the worst goalie in the league.
And yes, I read the bonus thing.

WE haven't had a playmaker and center like Joe Thornton since Jason Allison. Allison and Thornton can drive straight down the middle of the ice right in front of the goal and make plays. Kopitar and any other center we had (Carter, Stoll, Richards etc.) haven't been able to do it like that.

In 2012, we won with incredible defense, while capitalizing on majority of mistakes made by the other team. 2014 many goals were scored on crashing the net and banging away while throwing pucks to the net. Not saying we win by passing, was just touching on how we haven't had an elite playmaker for a long time.
