Shattenkirk is Stanley Cup kryptonite.

He'll never win one. Hope he stays far, far away from the Kings.

How much of that is his fault? He showed up for the Blues when most didn't.

Hainsey never even made the playoffs (not even adding his role in the lockout), look what happened.

Not that i'd bring in Shattenkirk, he'll likely cost 6-7 million, unless he's already chosen what city he'd like to play in.

New York.

There's this thing called a salary cap. Signing Oshie and one of Alzner or Shattenkirk would cost in excess of $10M in cap space. The Kings aren't going to handcuff themselves with more bad contracts by making a big splurge in free agency.

Agree. All 3 are going to be looking at LONG TERM deals. I don't see Blake chasing any of them.

Because going for an older Vanek and an MDZ isn't going for a win now mode! It's just getting useless body's to fill open spots. It just screams the same old thing again. Can't get the guys needed to win. Either go all out for Oshie and Alzner/Shattiekirk or go hard for youth. Don't settle for junk guys that won't do any better than what you already have.

Our junkyard run was last year. I can't see Blake repeating the disaster of last years FA signings.

I'm thinking that, too.

With vegas taking someone, we should have $2 - $2.5 million or so in cap space once we get to a 22 man roster. Burying Greene would add $1 million. A buyout would add more but I don't like the cap hit next year.

So we'd have $3-$4 million plus whatever the cap goes up. A UFA winger would mean someone sent down so we'd get their cap hit added to the winger salary. We may be able to afford a $5 million winger.

Make that money count. The MO over the last few years has been dumpster diving, mostly due to having junk on the books. If you're gonna spend money make sure it isn't in Ontario by November.

Last years UFA haul could possibly be the worst I've ever seen.

-Purcell flopped and ended up in Ontario
-Trotman didn't make the team
-Latta didn't make the team, was traded and ended up on the Hawks affiliate in Rockford.
-Gilbert flopped and ended up in Ontario and then Hershey for the caps affiliate.
-Setoguchi somehow played 45 horrible games for the Kings and was supposedly the source of some issues with DL and DS
-Zatkoff was comically bad.

Kings definitely need more players of Moreau and Hunter's ilk!

A guy could roll in on a wheel chair and he probably would have gotten a million dollar contract. "Great character fella right here, personifies Kings hockey!"

Most putrid.

This is all I am going to remember about Latta's time with the Kings organization...

Penner - Richards - Carter
King - Stoll - Lewis
Richardson - Fraser - Nolan
Clifford - Loktionov - Westgarth
Gagne

Scuderi - Doughty
Mitchell - Voynov
Martinez - Greene

He already pretty much said they were going to. He said they were going to be major players in free agency and Rosen said that Blake was looking to make a big splash via free agency.

It's gonna be Oshie. He has already looked into the price on Drouin, Kane and other scoring wingers. And it's just to expensive value wise. So he's gonna throw money at Oshie. I think he'll try to move a dman in a trade but won't get any good deals.

Edit: I'd much rather see them try their luck on a guy like Yakupov. Would be cheap and have something to prove.

They're going to have to clear a bit of cap space for a guy like Oshie. I have them with roughly $5.5 million in cap space after signing all the RFA's assuming the cap goes up by $2 million and Lewis is taken. That's with 22 roster players so I guess they could bury someone like Brodzinski (if he's waiver exempt) for however long until they have enough cap space to bring him up.

Oshie would be a terrible idea. Outside of last year he's had two 20 goal seasons in his entire career. Brown has had more 20 goal seasons.

A big long contract for a mediocre soon-to-be 31 year old. No thanks.

Signing Oshie to the type of contract he is likely seeking, especially the term, would be a mistake.

The Kings aren't signing Oshie. How much do you think he'll cost? Likely close to or in excess of $5M. How are they going to make that fit?

I don't think it will happen and I hope it doesn't, but it's doable. Buying out Greene adds $1.67M this year, taking them to $7M, they lose McNabb or Lewis to VGK and they are at $8.75M to $9M. RFAs Shore, Andreoff, Gravel, LaDue and Mersch fill-out the roster for ~$4M, leaving around $5M. This doesn't account for the cap going up some seemingly insignificant amount (less than the full 5%, should they decide to kick in the inflator) or the money saved by going with Campbell over Zatkoff (about $290K).

So they sign Oshie to a long term deal at around $5M or more. What cap room does that leave the team with ifvthey wish to add another top 4-5 dman, a backup goalie, and to re-sign others or upgrade at center depth?

All things considered, Oshie makes no ****ing sense.
